30 Days Of Dead - November 10th
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win! - Less Info

Winterland in march of '67? Gotta love that raw, gritty edge to the early stuff
"I believe the questions about distribution of the (B) versions of Easy Wind and He's Gone have been answered."
It has? Where? When? Or more importantly, what? Should they not be distributed?
At least I think it's a hint. Guess we'll find out tomorrow...
This is really fun!
new member...would some kind soul out there please educate me...what do i need to do to be able to listen and maybe download theser tunes offered on "30 Days of Dead"? thank you much
Thank you, Marye!
So, can the B versions be distributed on our own personal bandwidth, just no public links to them on this site to distract from the intent of the contest?
This has been a lot of fun even though the odds of me winning anything are only slightly better than Snowball the cat's chances of getting all that yarn back into a ball with a disgruntled rhino in the living room. :)
So I recently stumbled upon this site and, coincidently, the 30 Days of Dead. I consider myself to have a pretty good collection of music and am constantly looking for more, especially if I can find it via free download these days. My question to the group is can we as registered "users" of the site continue to download songs featured earlier in the month? I've looked around a bit, but this doesn't seem possible. Perhaps the site admin(s) could help us Dead loving folk out in this venture. The way I see it, if the song was available for free download one day, it ought to continue to be archived as a free download.
...usually say they are the clues. Not that a big ol' Stephen>Eleven wouldn't be appreciated, especially since tomorrow's the ELEVENTH lol.
I am having a great day!!! These downloads just made it even better!!!! I just downloaded the last 3 days that I missed. WOW!!!! Fun very fun!!!
11/11 was my thinking also.
...I forgot this was November. D'oh!
*fingers crossed* Live/Dead was an early entry in my album collection - may have been the first GD album, that or Aoxomoxoa. Was SO happy when the CD came out, I don't even remember what happened to my vinyl copy.
CLUE for tomorrow's 30 Days Track: This is the final East Coast appearance, from the 1980s, of this classic from Aoxomoxoa. ( I think I got it already)
Helena--I thought we'd get an Eleven too for tomorrow. It's not only the 11th, it's 11/11.
i missed these because of computer malfunctionoverload. can anyone help a brother out!!? i am a real novice on the computer so please be patient with the ill-informed thanks...Peace
To be honest...I think that Facebook clue is way too much of a giveaway
Helena Buckett, i too have the illustrated trip, Great Book! , but on a couple pages before it says around 66 and 67 that the scene around the dead were not to scrupulous about keeping records so the dates and venues around this time are not precisely documented. it was just such a long time ago and around that time nobody knew the dead would become what they did later on.
links to all the downloads are posted throughout these comments--just gotta poke around
Holy Hartford, deadbass ~ are you forgetting the Doin' That Rag from that Merriweather stealth show in '86?
sheeeeesshhhh... so, whoever can post the date the quickest after hitting "refresh" all morning gets a freebie..
Hey, at least we all get a guaranteed shot at the sweet weekly prize just for trying!
Now that there are mirror sites for all the 30 days of dead downloads, are there ones for the mp3's released pre-8/07 on the Taper's Section? I missed some that I'd really like to have. Anyone know?
Here is He's Gone B for Anyone
Many heads are truly better than one. Thanks to Canyon Critter and d0ti5 for getting me back on track. In the first 10 days I have faced an uncooperative website and had one day where life just kept me from getting to the download, but I was shown the light- or should I say link in both cases and very much appreciate it.
Appreciate the "He's Gone 'B' "
I downloaded China Cay?Rider but it was 0 bytes so it didn't play..is there a way to try downloading it again?
File size is a way of confirming you have the complete file/song given the trouble folks have been having getting the full songs each day due to high traffic. On Dark Star and PITB I had to try at leat 5 to 7 times before I got the full track and was glad to know the file size I was shooting for. Good luck!
Just saw my name on the weekly drawing list; so what's the loot? Good thing I got lucky with this because I just cant seem to draw quick enough for the daily prize, although I think I have a pretty good idea of tomorrow's answer already. Thanks folks, I'm digging this promo more than ever!
...but others were. That 3/17 date is just wacky. The blurb supplied by dead.net folks says "This show took place the day before the release of the Grateful Dead eponymous debut album", but the album was released on 3/17/67. That is a fact, and an album release date isn't something that gets foggy over time. I've got GD calendars that show 3/17 as the album release date (with a release party at Fugazi Hall in SF). Now if the concert in question was the day *before* the release that puts it on 3/16 - and I can't find anything about a show anywhere on 3/16/67.
Here's my theory: the phrase "day before the release" is a mistake. the show was the day after the release. And whoever wrote the blurb may have been using the bad entry in their database (which looks enough like the Deadbase database to make me think that's what it is) misreading that entry as for an alleged show at the Winterland on 3/17 (the entry says that tapes labeled as 3/17/67 were actually from a show in '66).
Whatever, I don't have a dog in the fight and the whole thing's starting to bore me. Bottom line: everything else I've seen suggests 3/18, and since TPTB don't give any backup info (if they have it, why don't they put the setlist info into their own dead.net database?) all we've got is that blurb up there saying it's 3/17. Who's writing those things, anyway?
There's gotta be a list somewhere of all the shows performed at the Winterland, that's separate from the dead.net info. That would give some info. Also some kind of show chronology for Chuck Berry since he performed shows with the Dead in that same time period.
Your choice of prize is: "THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) ($134.98 value) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set ($69.98 value)."
Isn't this awesome!! It is also the highlight of my day. I hate to rush the day but i'm waiting for 9 0'clock!!
deadroots.net is streaming. How, if possible, do I get the file. If not here, does anyone know where?
I'm pissed at myself for missing this version. :[
That's odd. I also have a macbook and haven't had any problems (knock knock on wood). I click the link, the download screen pops up, music starts playing. I open iTunes and there it is.
sorry you are having problems. If I learn anything I will pass it along
Thats a tough choice - I got the Warlocks set hot of the press and dont have a record player. I guess the vinyl thing is more of a collectible. I guess I could consider the retail price but Im more into listening to my tunes than collecting them. Maybe Ill get the box and give it to my bro for xmas; he was eyeballing mine the other day.
I have gone thru all the posts and yours was the first to work for He's Gone B!!
THANK YOU. I can rest now.
We have too many that fought and are fighting for our Freedom's.
We take it for granted many have fought war's/battles,
For us and they will go down as unthanked.
Thank a Elder.
Do For Other's You Will Feel Better.
thing is this would not be the first mistake....besides, if you listen to several dif versions of aud copies (at least two dif tapers) both dated 3/18 they are note for note with this dl....
i enjoy the game and go by ear and narrow from there....i have been called a walking deadbase by my boyfriend and others and love these games!
i have only used an actual deadbase once so far and that was so i could narrow a venue name down
it is fun..i know i can never be the first, heck i am at work (lucky for me i can listen to music in the background and go from there), but i want to get my entries in for the weekly!!
i want that vinyl set!!! i will end up buying it if i don't win, but how much fun would that be to win one?
i won a poster from furthur fridays months ago!!
how could cbs73 guess 3/17 when that wasn't one of the seven dates the song was played? Talk about a WAG! (wild-ass guess)
Is a recount in order, or is someone gonna prove that 3/17 really was the date of the last GD Cream Puff War...?
Agree with segan63. 3/18 was my pick from all available detective work I could apply!
I too can't find a setlist for the 17th and think it is the 18th
Maybe the 3/17 announcement should be 3/18.
great to see lots of comments from deadheads in europe!
check out www.jambandseurope.com to find out about local deadhead discussion groups in europe, tribute bands, tour dates for bands in europe, radio programs, etc.
hook up with the heads in europe!
I'm missing where/how to listen and download...
Not to say it is the right answer here but it probably is. That's a low blow picking an uncirculated version! =)
"It's got no signs or dividing line and very few rules to guide"
I have checked here for the past few mornings (8 am EST) and there is no download or listen option. are these songs not available for 24 hours each? I am not always able to get on line for the "late coast" timing of the music. the only few I have gotten this month are the ones I have found at 2 pm or later...
Will the entire "compilation" of songs be available somewhere to download after the fact?
My bet is that CBS73 was correct with date 3-18-67 and the posting of 3-17-67 is wrong.
The archive, tape compendium #1 and Dead Base all show 3-18-67 Winterland for this performance.
Here is what Dead Base has to say about 3-17-67:
03-17-67b Winterland Arena, San Francisco, Ca. (Fri)
the list from 11-19-66 often appears on tapes with this date - billing.
Best Wishes-Jimmy the Cop
You're a cool dude. Much appreciated for posting the 'b' version of He's Gone. :-)
Even eTree doesn't have a recording dated 3/17. Chuck Berry is mentioned: coincidentally Chuck played last night at Blueberry Hill in St Louis. Furthur performs tonight in St Lou!!
I think this contest is unfair for a number of reasons and I'm a very well season dead head having seen 287 shoes and having the largest collection of shows of anyone I know. I won't go into detail but there was the post yesterday for someone who said they were poking around on the server and found a list of all the songs and dates and they speculated that others had done the same which would make this thing absolutely unfair. Just my two cents.
