We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!
                                                   - Less Info
We haven't selected a daily winner yet. The first person to answer correctly will get to pick a Road Trips of their choice. To get started, login or register using the form above.
We haven't selected a winner for the week of 11/22 yet!

Legal? Not sure

I am only streaming, which is free. All shows seem to be able to stream for free, but some may be purchased to be played outside of the website. This show is not for sale. But there is some good Janis with Big Brother. Listening to 6/14/1968 now. High energy.

I'm just saying

To sell Grateful Dead music, of anybodies music, on-line like THAT is Just Wrong and totally illegal. We all share and trade, that's cool, but charging people for what they do not have rights to is a real dirt-bag move.

I guess most Heads know better, and avoid scams like that.

"Shame on Brian Wilson for not originally giving Chuck Berry any credit for it."

Pipes, you are wrong. I have the original Surfin' USA vinyl and the credit on the label says (Chuck Berry).

Wish List

I'm holding out in the hopes of hearing the SBD copy of Dark Star from 10/23/72 as a future entry, or something from Pig's last show, 06/17/72. But it's all been great so far; the only thing I would have wished for differently is to have had started this off with the beautiful "Uncle John's" from 09/20/70 rather than the (still excellent) "New Speedway Boogie".

Next Week Down Loads

Hi all, This is "Grate"!! I love the whole party!! My problem is I will be away next week will be unable to down load some dates. I will be out of town without anyway to do it. I will miss the 16th to the 20th downloads. Will there be a way for me and possible others that may miss the songs to catch up? I would hate to miss out on them.

I would bet some serious cash that yesterday's winner correctly guessed 3/18/67 and it's just a typo on the Dead.net team's part when they said it was 3/17/68. I am sure cbs73 (the winner) knows what's up. Besides, how random of a guess would it be to have the venue, year and month right but be off by a single day? :P

There was a show at Winterland on the date for the album release. However none of the setlist sites have a list for the date. You can easily find several references to the show on several uncle bobo sites (sugarmegs under bill graham has a direct reference with the band listing).

Why do people whine so much about something that is free? geez you morons...get a clue. Free...go look up the word an stop being so selfish.

For the cry babies that think that they aren't getting the whole download....well numb nuts TRY later...I log in in the late afternoon and NEVER have any problems. Jerry Garcia would be ashamed by this behavior....Deadheads are survivors not wymps.

i too have the illustrated

i too have the illustrated trip, Great Book! , but on a couple pages before it says around 66 and 67 that the scene around the dead were not to scrupulous about keeping records so the dates and venues around this time are not precisely documented. it was just such a long time ago and around that time nobody knew the dead would become what they did later on.

The album Grateful Dead was released on 3/17...

...and there was a release party at Fugazi Hall (my old calendars say it so it must be true LOL). I'm guessing the guys were tripping their collective balls even farther off than usual at that one ;)

Hey sonnydoo, in your post last page you say "There was a show at Winterland on the date for the album release." Where did you get that info? THanks!

Doing some research to

Doing some research to figure this puzzle out. Havent found a specific mention to the shows for this week in 67. The concert on 3-17 was for St Patrick's Day. It followed a week of shows at the Whiskey in LA. After the band got back to SF, their equipment truck was stolen. It was found on 3-17 by Bear as Jerry was giving one of his more famous early interviews. It was also the date of the release of the album. (A really busy day apparently). Still digging...

I agree about the Furthur shows. Drove from Cleveland to Columbus this summer and took my 14 year-old daughter to her first show. We had a ball! Saw my first "Liberty" by the way, on Fourth of July weekend. Fireworks during the show were awesome!
