30 Days Of Dead - November 1st
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win! - Less Info
9/20/70 was my guess, when do they give the answer?
Thanks a grip!
How do you download the tune
Fillmore East, NY, NY- 9/20/70
Is this only for people with Macs? It doesn't work with my PC (windows 7)
Jim Fitzwater Awesome, I am looking forward to this, it sounds like a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
23megs? That's like 4x as large as most mp3's of 10 minutes duration. What gives?
Listened but didn't download the song, anyone want to send me the mp3 via e-mail?
Am I the only monkey out here, but how do we sign in, listen, and download? Thanks cadets!
Because the music never stops...
Equipment malfunctions, false starts, frustrating teases, long periods of dead air, assurances that they will get it just exactly right Sound familiar?
>>>>for some reason my Itunes didn't hold New speedway yesterday...bummer, and now I can't find it on line
What you should do is try to find out where you downloaded the mp3...when you find it, you'll have to add it to Itunes manually from there by opening Itunes and pressing File>Add File To Library... and picking the file from your computer.
If that doesn't work, then you probably had a problem dloading it. It's already in the MP3 format so it should just go right in, but you have to add it.
I use a free program to listen to all my music (which also plays flac files) and it can be found here. Winamp Media Player
Great version -- 40 years old -- unbelievable -- thx for the listen
Yes, can we get the tracks we missed? I can't login everyday and download, because, well, I'm just not around. Gotta work etc...
My first Grateful Dead Concert was one of Pigpen's last in SF ., Although I watched them a few times in the 80's and once in the 90's, almost all of my many concerts were in the 70's in the Bay Area during the Keith and Donna years. My favorite? "The Last One", Winterland.
I must be getting old. How does one go about downloading these tunes?
Thanks for you help. Mr. Pete-----> aging hippie
Darn it, I forgot to download this. I listened to it, but forgot to push the download button. Anyone have this to share?
When I click on the link, I get this:
Page not found The page you requested does not exist. For your convenience, a search was performed using the query node 30 days dead november 1st. The page you requested was not found.
I found out about this from Geoff Gould through an email from the old GD Forum and tried to get through but was denied. Help?
When I submitted this comment, the download link came up. Boy, that was fast! Thanks!!
...considering I was too busy working and sleeping to be able to download the file? It would be nice to have the vault's best copy of the track.
I reiterate what I said earlier, this is an enjoyable concept but is it designed to irritate anyone in a different timezone? There's no way the New Speedway was online for 24 hours and I didn't even receive the email until well into the "first day". Surely you guys could just host the files for the entire month...out of goodwill???? Now I just feel aggrieved and like a second class customer which wouldn't happen if you'd left the first file on.
It's a question of perception - yes - but it's important. As I also already pointed out non-US residents get shafted on all matters to do with shipping. This is/was the ideal opportunity to endear us to you. I'm not sure it will achieve that.
Fillmore West, 4-11-70
I need a kynd soul to send me the download of He's Gone (B) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are two ways you can download and locate the .mp3's from this site if you use Windows XP as your operating system.
If you choose to left-click on the button to download the file, the file will likely download to your hidden "Temporary Internet Folder" as the default location. Once you've downloaded the file (Download Manager should read "Done"), open a folder on your computer, go to "Tools," then to "Folder Options," then to "View," and then scroll down in "Advanced Options" until you see the entry "Hide protected operating system files(Recommended)." Uncheck the box to the left of this entry. You'll probably see a dialog box warning you about the consequences of this action. If you want to proceed, left-click the radio button reading "Yes." Then go to "My Computer," then to "Local Disc (C:)," then to "Documents and Settings," then to your user name, then to "Local Settings." There you should see a folder marked "Temp." Open that folder (not the greyed-out folder below it marked "Temporary Internet Files," but "Temp"). You should see within "Temp" a greyed-out folder marked "Temporary Internet Files." Open that folder, and drill down through the various strangely-named folders within until you find your .mp3. You should then be able to move it wherever you would like. Note that running a search using the Windows "Search" utility may not reveal the location of the .mp3 file unless you have unmasked your system folders as detailed above. (N.B.: Be careful not to mess with any of your other hidden system folders or files!)
(You can also right-click on the file in a jukebox such as Windows Media Player and select the option for revealing the file pathway and opening the containing folder. That can work too.)
By far the easier way to proceed (if you haven't already downloaded the .mp3 by left-clicking the radio button for doing so) is to create a folder ex ante whereever you would like. Then right-click on the radio button for downloading, and select either "Save Target As" or "Download Later As." You should then be able to circumvent the automatic downloading to the hidden default "Temporary Internet Files" folder in your "Temp" folder, and select the location to which you would like to download the .mp3 file.
These methods have worked for me; hope they work for you too.
Best to all, deadhead66
Me too Mr. Peter...Please help...I cannot figure out how to download the tunes...I'm dyin' over here !
Even if this 'old head' gets it wrong...I still win. In fact, WE ALL WIN!!! Thanks for the music.
Wonderfully cool thing to do, AMAZING version of New Speedway (I've never heard this one before), and......sigh....just AMAZING once again how ungrateful so many heads are.
How can there possibly be anything to complain about THIS time?
Something TRULY FREE ~ nothing more than that ~ a FREE DOWNLOAD of an unreleased performance ~ and people are still asking for more (FLAC, better quality MP3), some of us might miss out on a day or two so I hope you save these longer than a day (how about early bird catches the worm, or you snooze you lose), COMPLAINING that the contest is NOT FAIR to those who live on the West Coast....
and today's winning submission for most truly disgraceful show of ingratitude, congratulations, buzzy1949:
"Can't believe people are actually THANKING you for throwing us a bone....I'm gettin' too old for this crap.....why not just release ALL 30 SHOWS for download and REALLY make 2010 a banner year ( and 320K is hardly high quality)"
Some days I'm truly ashamed to be a Deadhead. And, sorry, don't tell me about free speech ~ free speech comes with a responsibility for how you use it. This deal isn't something you spend a PENNY on. It's FREE. If I were the people who put this on, I'd @#$ing YANK it from your username, buzz.
Thankfully, this same day is a great day to be a Deadhead. Because this wonderful surprise gift started, I got a great free song (likely from '70, arguably my favorite year) and there's 29 more to go.......and a contest. Multi gratzie!!!!! You guys rock!!!!!!!!
thank you! what a fun November for dead.net. the downloads were my little evening treat.
to a good december!
True dat, 9/20/70 prob gotta be it. But not last time your fat man broke it out. 2/19/91, and many gigs afterwards. In fact more 90's Speedways, than 70's. No comparison of course, 1970 GD is its own beautiful thing. But lets set the record straight.....
I know I picked the right date and venue, but I don't know if I was first. Do bells or sirens go off, if you are the first?
Definately not the first. Should have read more comments before I went searching. It's definately 9/20/70 Fillmore East. Same intro and time for vocal start, plus Jerry drops the "if' from "if you got nothing new...". Thanks for the freebie. Nice version.
I saw the first east coast one at Landover 3-17-91 (first night), the news was all over the parking lot that day and I got to hear a piece of it coming out of someone's speakers. I wanted to hear it THAT NIGHT and I was so psyched when Jerry started inching up to the mike out of the Truckin' jam....there was no doubt what was coming. And his voice surpassed expectation ~ he really belted it out. Sixth song before drums, too!
I know Vince gets alot of flack (and I'm a Brent guy myself) but if he was responsible for the breakout, as I've heard tell, big, big kudos to Vince.
It's definitely 9-20-70, my first Dead show. See ya'll at MSG later this month.
Thanks guys, we can share the women, we can share the wine.
