You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. I think I figured out where this one is from, but in the midst of searching, I was reminded about some fine versions of H>S>F that I haven't heard in a long time. Versions like 9/10/91 (with Branford) for instance. Anybody else stumble across any good later-era ones that they'd recommend?
To HSF & mine cuts out!!
I've tried 3 different times so far and gotten 3 different lengths. So far the biggest was the 1st @ 44 meg. I'm playing it now and it's s-w-e-e-t.
Just keep at it. That's what I'm doing.
I realize many people may not enjoy the '90s as far as the Dead is concerned, but this is right up my alley! This particular H>S>F, has some GREAT jams, Jerry actually sounds really good, even for this late. Slipknot starts to wander...and just when you think are lost...FRANKLIN'S TOWER!
I am really excited to see some stuff from the 90s on this promotion, and had zero issues with the download!
Keep Truckin'!
take the free downloads and be grateful. you gotta win something too to be happy? run your own site and please hundreds of people dailey with free tunes then maybe well come bitch on your site about it
unkle sam, you need to get over yourself. (see Louis CK's rant about people not appreciating the miracles of tech.). remember, this is all FREE STUFF! just have a little patience. hey, you could even wait till later in the day, and then you could log on and download with NO PROBLEMS!
you're really missing out on the love if you can equate a few minutes of mild frustration on this website (which techs are working miracles just to make this happen) with the darkness that came down in the later days of our Dead family trip. take a long look at yourself, and try to work on your greed and selfishness!
And while i'm at it, HUGE THANKS to CC and all the others of you helping us all out through this wonderful pre-Christmas present we're getting
"Enjoy every sandwich." - Warren Zevon.
Took 5 times, I had to shut down my whole system. Well worth the wait!! If this was my biggest problem today I'm gonna be just fine... Thanks for the advice and the posting CC!
Just gonna kick back and enjoy!
Very Grateful
I agree with phishie , we win each day with a free unreleased song , how awesome is that ?
...is wrong--the file size is right, but the duration of the track is 25:27, not 10:51 (look at the other track size/time ratios, 10:51 is mighty short for a file of this size).
Took several tries to get it, but hey, that's part of the fun! I may be downloading from hell in a bucket, but at least I'm enjoying the ride... :-)
...can't find a firm date for when Phil started playing the Modulus Graphite six string at shows but in an interview I just read he says he first saw an ad for the Modulus in '81 and immediately called them. I'm guessing his was not a stock model though LOL, but early '80s is a good bet.
Canyon Critter: there appears to be a typo on your timing for the Help>Slip>Franklins on your helpful links posting - you have 10:51, I think that's a little short ;).
Thanks for the posts, and you freaks all have a happy Thanksgiving holiday. Hope the weather isn't too crappy wherever you are!

one hour and thirty mins to get to this point, crashes, maintenance page, freezes, you would think, after 23 days, they could fix this site. Even if I did have the correct answer, couldn't get in to post it, what a joke. This reminds me of the bad days of gate crashers and crazied druggies, kinda goes together with the dates of these tunes.
