Just like your favorite jam, things are going to get a bit funky on Dead.net over the next week or so. Community accounts will be temporarily closed October 16th-17th and may be under further maintenance through October 22nd. But rest assured, we will be back up and better than ever shortly thereafter. Stay tuned!
30 Days Of Dead - November 2nd
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win! - Less Info
What show was yesterday's Speedway from? Will you tell us the venue/date of these songs afterwards?
Click on the day in the calendar and you will find the answer to the song from that day
Great quality tracks....get to see further in Chitown and cloumbus next week....Just in time for the Holidays!
Gr8fuljess.... im doing the same :) we might just get a miracle!
"Never mind." Got it at Archive. Shhhhhhhhhh!
good stuff my guess is proably way off but oh well all good things in all good time. always grateful always dead
But I picked the wrong venue. Oops.
I have no problem yet got all 20mins of darkstar great!
I didn't know you have to download the same day :(
I didn't know you have to download the same day :(
I didn't know you have to download the same day :(
But on the other hand I'm not eligable to participate in the contest. I doesn't really matter - I have every Road Trips, released so far.
I took out my old well-read copy of Dead Base X (# 4378) and compared possible renditions. Most possible seemed to be 2-21-69 at Dream Bowl, Vallejo, CA. Second possible 3-2-69 at Fillmore West. BUT since Dead Base X only have timings on a few of the many 1969-versions, some other version mya be more correct.
One could go to Internet Archive and seek out various possibilities but there's no point for me doing that.
My downloaded track clocked in at 21:11, btw.
My record collection:
GRATEFUL FOR THE JAM! However, can you upload yesterdays jam? Or can someone post a link or send it in an email.
Has anyone created some album art for this sure to be amazing month?! If so, let's see it!
Hey everyone. This is a great contest, but I missed Day #1's download. Is the download only good for one day? Is anyone willing to send it to me or can I go out and grab it somewhere on this site or someplace else? Thanks! -- Jeff
my email address is email@example.com
CLUE: Tomorrow's 30 DAYS OF DEAD track is a Garcia/Hunter tune, that debuted in 1979 and was played consistently through 1995.
Gotta be Althea.
There is nothing at all on the page for Nov 1 or Nov 2 that links to the song?
Is it still possible to download this?
An idea to be truly GRATEFUL for, but can't find the download link for Dark Star? See previous comments have the same issue, so it's not just dumb me! Is it because of time zone differences, here in New Zealand we're almost a full day into your future? HANGING OUT!!!
There is no link. Would you play it for me?
Quality is not expensive, the lack of it often is.
I'm saving the little discription for each song that comes with the date and venue , the only one I don't have is New Speedway Boogie , does anyone have the song , show , date info , thanks .
What's the deal? A flaky server, download links that fade away very quickly, and this is the "token of your appreciation?" I had to try 7 times to get the Dark Star, and now for those who weren't here for the few hours the "free" song was available, the link's no longer here. Pretty cheap if you ask me...
If you’re in New Zealand you have to visit the site in the mornings, as the download link has gone by the afternoon.
Can someone who actually managed to get the full downloads put them up somewhere with servers that don't constantly slow to a crawl. 10 hours on a DSL line to get 4M of a the dark star intro, before it died
Okay...WHERE on this page (or any other) is the clickable link to DOWNLOAD the music of the day? Left, right, top, bottom? What color? what does it say?
PS - I've been coming here at various hours of day and night, and have yet to find the clickable link. I'm PDT, too - in other words, it's 11:50PM of Tuesday as I write this.
I'm no moron, but this site makes me feel like one. Where is the song? How do listen or download?
Thanks to the Kiwi-Head who let me know that the downloads are only available in the morning dew down under. Unfortunately, missed the 69 Dark Star. BUMMER. So I join the choir of angels singing for the earlier downloads to be made available. A month of Billy Sunday's, so to speak.
I am unable to listen to or download the song. Where is the link?
They should call this 30 days of frustration
"Takes all you got just to stay on the beat . . ."
It would be nice if there was more complete information about when these downloads are actually available, so we don't spend time searching in vain for links and tearing our hair when we get repeatedly routed to the dead.net home page with nothing to show for it. Maybe you could leave all of the 30 downloads available all month?
It would be more copaesthetic if the process was clear... HELP, please! Where is the download? Does it even work with my iPad? Don't leave us hanging man.
Okay, I betcha that a coupla folks working here at Dead.net were sittin' round smoking the herb....and someone said "WOW! I have a GREAT idea! We can drum up some website traffic if we OFFER THEM A DAILY DOWNLOAD! But oh, you know those 'heads, only a few will ACTUALLY go to the site to get it...so there's no need to increase our BANDWIDTH any!"
"Yeah! THAT'S that ticket!"
(2 days later)...
So I got the opening day's track , and though I missed yesterday's chance , I'd still like to get the dark star from 11/2 . Now , however , I'm not able to open the prompt/button for 'sign in / listen' . Is it me , and I'm doing this wrong ?
Don Wolfe has the rightest idea . I appreciate the free dl , but it should be available for a month . Contest is a great idea , too- almost as great as bonus discs !! help on the way ?
Cool idea, team. However, you shouldn't name it 30 Days of the Dead. It should be 30 Partial Days of the Dead. I am not seeing the download for the 2nd. Make 'em available for those who are having trouble. It would be another "brilliant" business decision with the gold you have to give. We'll keep coming and buying.
Hi Guys and Gals,
I was able to download yesterday's tune with no problem. Now I can't find where to log in or download Dark Star on Nov. 2. What's up? Are the tunes available until the next tune goes up, or only until someone wins the prize?
Thanks for this great opportunity to get some outstanding music from the best band in the land at no charge! We appreciate it and we appreciate you.
This is typical!!...nowhere did it say the DL was only for that day......plus yesterday 11/2 was unavailable for most of the day....WTF?
Waaaaaaghhhhhhhh!!!! is all I can say at this point! I can't even write all that again! Been trying to log in and get Day 2's song for hours...and it's not here?? I give up!!!
PS. Someone needs to move that 'More inforrmation about formatting options' link down there!! I just erased my whole eloquent and quite humorous story about my misadventures with this site & that damn Day2 song!!!!! Good day.
It's early in the morning, and i'm only on my first cuppa, but where to click to listen/dowload the track?
I don't see a way to download the song, either... Uh, so now this is turning into one of those unfortunate instances of "What exactly is going on here Dead.net/GDP?" If someone could respond and/or make it clear at the top of this page, that would be helpful.
Also trpnflyr, RE: "TO [sic] MANY MO-MO'S IN UTAH"
(first of all, typing in all caps on the internet is considered yelling, and no one likes to be yelled at...)
and being a bigot is one thing (and I've also read that Hitler thought there were too many ju-jus in Europe...), but advertising it to the world via a post on Dead.net is another! Are you sure you wanted to do that? Perhaps no one plays "Eastrn [sic] Idaho" because they think there are too many bigots there. Ever consider that? Or perhaps it's just YOU. My father and many of my aunts and uncles were born and raised in Eastern Idaho, and most were practicing Mormons (and as such, subscribe to the church doctrine of freedom of religion, and the right of each and every person to freely worship who and what they choose [no matter if they agree with it or not, it is, after all, a Constitutional right, is it not?] and to be free from harassment, persecution, and bigotry simply because their beliefs differ, which means they support an individual's right to choose to worship God or Satan or anything or nothing or everything... it's called tolerance and is based on a respect for each person's freedom to choose to worship whatever they like in accordance with the dictates of their own conscience... or lack of it, as the case may be).
We might not all share the same political or religious views, but I certainly would not avoid any place in the United States due to the prevailing political or religious beliefs of the people there.
Whatever happened to "celebrating diversity"? Or is there only certain types of "diversity" that are politically correct?
Unfortunately, there are far too many people on the far right AND the far left who turn from love and tolerance to hate and persecution of those who do not agree with them. As a staunchly political "blue" person (as was my late father), even I must remind remind myself that though I might strongly disagree on many issues with "red" people to the right of me, I can still try to love the person, even thought I might strongly disagree with their politics (and it's not easy!).
I'm not going to let any group's political or religious views ruin my day. Life's too short! All I can do is vote and work to uphold the things I believe in and respect and tolerate each individual's right to do the same. Peace, Love, Freedom, and Tolerance, I'd like to think these are core Dead Head values!
I cant even find where to download them?
The "How It Works" box is nice and all, but why can't I stream or download the song? Are you really telling me that I only have one day to get each song, and then it's gone forever?
I missed yesterday's (11/2/2010) release of DS.
Is there anyway to get that, after the date you've made it available? Regardless of the response, dead.net is truly a great service - benevolent, inspiring, caring, etc... I suspect that you will reap 10-fold what you give away in these downloads. And I hope so too.

I guess once the date changes, you can't download the past day's selection?? I was trying to get the 6-5-69 Dark Star from Nov 2nd and don't seem to find a link anywhere. Can anyone help?
I can't find the daily free song to listen OR download OR guess...
uuuummmmm....they printed it in the USA Today that there would be free DLs....what do you expect people to do?.....hhhmmmm they put this in the national newspaper so that only those devoted fans already signed up at dead.net will know what to do?????........tooo funny!!!!.....
I downloaded Dark Star, but it seems to me there were about 7 minutes missing. Did i miss something?
