We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!

Definitely Brent!

I think it is early 80's, because Jerry's voice is clear. And Brent is definitely here. But where? CA?

My guess is 7/1/80, but that is a total guess. Jerry's voice sounds younger than 1982.

I haven't received an email.

I'll try to fight my obsessive need to check the folder for the 1,000 time since 9AM.

Thanks folks.

leave the songs up please

Is there any way you can leave the songs up for the month? If I miss a day due to life's demands, then I can't hear the song...
Thanks

It's 3-14-1981 Give it a listen. Has the same intro to the song and around 2:10 - 2:16 Jerry mumbles the verse "you may be a clown in the burying ground?

Heaps of thanks for putting up these songs!

Agree it is early 80's and would suggest Des Moines, 12/7/81

Reckon it must be before Jerry's illness, like dstache said, he's sounding young (and robust!) also the style of his technique is definitely not late era.

My guess is 79 or 80. Bobby tended to use a slide alot more in 1981 e.g Barton Hall 5/81 and Jerry's voice is way to good for anything later.

Whoever came up with this format deserves a pat on the back. I will never complain about the opportunity to easily download tunes direct from the vault. This is a nice way to allow fans to interact in a new way with the music. Keep the bus rolling. I am excited to see where dead.net heads next.

cheers

Yeah, I'd say '81 as well but no matter, just listening to this with it's pure, sweet , crystalline, sound
and hearing that joy in Jerry's voice negates winning or losing; still I love the idea of it bringing people together, which I suppose it the real point anyway...so cheers!

{{{Date/Venue for DS??

"Dark Star
Fillmore West, SF, CA- 6/5/69
Another classic mid-1969 version of Dark Star, similar in tone and energy to the versions played in February-March, 1969 at the same venue, one of which (2/27/69) was included on Live/Dead. This Dark Star would later go into the “typical” (oh, the days when THAT was typical…) sequence of St. Stephen>The Eleven>Lovelight."

If you click the date in the Archive Calendar at the top right of the page it'll list the song, venue, date, and the winner for previous days. I hope that helps.

Whoops...definitely early

Whoops...definitely early Brent b/c he is pretty mellow and still finding his way...I would say '81 or '82...checking my boots as I send this. Although Jerry's playing feels older but his voice is younger...not the late 80's unless it was really a good night.

Sounds Great

This defineately sounds like early 80's to me. Brent playing the tinker sounding keys. Althea is a tough one though because it doesn't have as many unique sections like a dark star for instance. Oh yeah, and like many others have said please please post all the links b/c I missed the speedway boogie and it's one of my faves.

Tomorrow's tune?

The Twitter clue is...

"DeadNet Clue: Tomorrow's #30DAYSOFDEAD track is one of two songs written by the trio of Weir/Hart/Hunter."

So, that's either Playin' or Greatest Story, right?

I want to download yesterday's song

Can you PLEASE leave up the prior day or two's song for download. I suppose you aren't willing to leave all 30 up - but maybe your servers can handle leaving up 2 or 3. Sometimes I'm traveling and can't get the song on the ONLY day it's released!

For all the newcomers who want the download:

It took me 2 1/2 days to figure this all out, so here you go so you don't have to be confused:

-You must be registered and logged in
-There will be one link to one song per day.
-That link will be there all day, but not all night. At night, there is no link.
-There are no archives. It's one per day.

The songs are great gifts to us, but a good explanation of how it all works was definitely in order.

Thanks for the beautiful music, Dead.net

I can't figure out how to listen to the song - help...

Hi,
I am logged on in Internet Explorer but, am unable to play the song. I actually can't find the song to play - lol! I clicked on the "30 Days of Dead" icon, the "Learn more" hyperlink and each of the steps to get the song.

I am missing an obvious thing here, Folks - what is it?

Thanks and kindest regards from one who is computer illiterate.

Frustrating, but now enjoying...

Spent a lot of time playing with Chrome and IE before finally reading posts and figuring it out (I think) thanks to helpful messengers.

Big thanks to Woody1, as that's the only thing that's actually worked for me. Look at earlier posts for links to 01 & 02 Nov tracks.

Thanks to KraigRunningDeer for post re time-of-day. Really frustrated at how I can't stream, download, or anything, or even figure it out. It's 7:30 pm on 04 Nov where I am -- in the Southern hemisphere, but the 04 Nov link on the calendar goes to a page not found error. I'm guessing now, thanks to KraigRunningDeer, that error is due to page not being up yet in Northern hemisphere.

One way or another, this darkness got to give... Too sweet

Help! I missed the download!

Wow, I'd sure like to hear that "Althea," but it's gone already! It's pretty hard to catch the download while it's online for those of us living in Europe. This one seems to have first been published after I left my computer for the evening yesterday, but was already removed by the time I got up this morning! Right now, no "30 days of Dead" downloads seem to be available. Will we eventually be able to go back and pick up the downloads we missed?

P.S., I otherwise really enjoy this new feature!

How does this work?

When I click on the calendar this is what I get:

The page you requested does not exist. For your convenience, a search was performed using the query node 16761.

So what I want to know is how the heck is this suppose to work? I would love to listen to the daily download and also download it if I like the song. Anyone out there have any useful information on why this is happening?

Thanks for any help.

Hey, I was at that show. Woohoo! And it was good. As I recall, the "Passenger" right after "Althea" knocked our collective socks off.
