We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!
                                                   - Less Info
We haven't selected a daily winner yet. The first person to answer correctly will get to pick a Road Trips of their choice. To get started, login or register using the form above.
We haven't selected a winner for the week of 11/22 yet!

Oh and Remember

These are coming straight from the vault, no editing or tweeks involved...I think it's a great thing. So that's why there is Dead Air. Thank you to David Lemieux for giving us goodies for the month!

Fixed the server issues?

Got the whole song on the first try today. Either they fixed the server issues, or I got here early enough for it not to be too crowded. Great version.

probably early 1970

I also heard the Cryptical tuning at the end of the clip - that narrows it down to a couple of choices. The quality/sound of the tape also sounds more like an early 1970 recording as opposed to late '69. All in all a great version of Easy Wind - not sure why the Dead dropped this tune while they still had Pig in the band. This is promotion thing fun, great idea, but it would even better if the downloads worked on the first try - I'll like to hold on to all these great tunes!

Think Hockey Town

The boys played here two years before the WHA Jets came to town. 'Course they played at a different venue and Pigpen's sticks were a bit shorter than Bobby Hull's. Keep those great songs and guesses comin.

Seems like the site was working better today - I got my d/l on the first try (although that extra stuff at the end had me concerned)! AND, I got the song today but probably not quick enough! But I'll tell ya: what I really want is one of the box sets so at least I'll be in the running for that!

By the way, looks like the 5 songs released so far are about 78-80 minutes so the 30 Days of Dead might end up being a MONSTER 6-disc set - woot!

Thank You!!!

Much appreciated on the links to the previous downloads. By the way, my guess was 12/11/1969. Shot in the dark, but with a Cryptical next and my birthday, 6 years prior, it seemed like a good choice!!!

Wow I'm loving this 30 Days of Dead idea. Unfortunately I have the feeling that Dr. Rhino underestimated how popular it would be. Yesterday (Day 4) was a disaster, mainly (I suspect) due to the fact that the word had got around. I have never seen more than 200 users and 200 guests on this site at one time - until yesterday. And it showed when one attempted to download the unfortunately large "Playing in the band". That it was so hard to download the entire thing only compounded the bandwidth problem due to the fact that many people (myself included) had to continuously try downloading it to get the full thing. In the end, I had to admit defeat but due to the fine work of the Canyon Critter I was able to come back the following morning (here in Europe the morning is very very late at night in the US when all sensible beings are tucked up in their beds) and get it all via his link at the second attempt. I noticed that the link he posted was different to the address I got every time I tried to download from the original "Click here" button on this site - the difference was the Timestamp number. The "Critter" timestamped address also gave a better download speed than the address that I always got from this site direct. Are there multiple files on multiple servers? Yesterdays overload had some pretty dire consequences - when I tried to login to my account today I found that another username was already filled in. After trying various things it became obvious that I was not going to be able to log in, so I requested a new password. When I got to that page, someone else's e-mail address was already filled in and various attempts to get a new password also failed. Time to create a new account. When I got to that page, the details were already filled in - with yet another unknown e-mail address. Luckily I didn't have to login to get to Canyon Critter's link. Anyway I mailed customer service and promptly got a reply admitting that they were experiencing technical problems and asking me to forward the mail to Dr. Rhino (technically one level higher). Now the problem is resolved and I can log in and use the site normally. Many thanks to customer service who came good precisely when it was needed. As noted by other posters, the site is much more responsive today and downloading today's mp3 was a breeze - an easy wind in fact. I hope that all the problems are now resolved and I find it very encouraging that, having had problems, they moved so quickly to fix 'em. It is a shame that us rest-of-the-world denizens do not get a shot at the prizes but that is for me a small deal compared to the goodies we are all able to enjoy. My vote for a special prize goes to the Canyon Critter for the way he has selflessly taken it upon himself to ensure that everyone gets what they want in an easy manner - don't forget, he doesn't have to do this. A true gentleman.

Thanks!

Just want to say a big thankyou to the band, all at Deadnet for this amazing generosity, and to Canyon Critter for his excellent reposting of links for downloads.

I'm really enjoying this whole trip, catching these new tracks and guessing at time frames. I 'only' have about 300 shows on cdr, so, hey I'm no expert!

My guess for this latest one is late '70, sounds a little earlier than my favourite version which was about 21 Feb '71, from that amazing Port Chester run.

All best to everyone!

Yay, the download finally appeared. It would be most righteous to make all the songs available for the rest of the month as they are revealed daily. Yes?

Here's the links from the Downloads so far. Hope this helps everyone out that didn't get the shows. Love is Real....

Thank you for posting actually accessible links. From time to time there has been a problem accessing music files posted in the Tapers Section and the Grateful Dead Hour features, but this feature has been uniformly frustrating. Please keep up your effort for the rest of the month to salvage the listening opportunities.

Thank you.

Download Updates

Ok I've added the file sizes and lengths. Due to Server issues with Dead.Net sometimes the downloads don't go all the way through. To avoid clutter on your system if it doesn't download properly with the lengths just delete the file and re-download the ones you don't have. I hope that the lengths and sizes help avoid anymore confusion.

I've been apart of Dead.Net from the beginning (even when they had the cool planets links and space stuff) and I love it. They sometimes have issues, but hey relax, their deadheads, they'll eventually get it worked out. People on Dead.Net work really hard to put this stuff together for you (Like Marye, David Gans, David Leumiux, Blair Jackson, and plenty of other people that aren't named) and I think we should all give them a huge round of applause! Thank you!

So without Furthur ado here's everything so far, and I will keep them updated as much as I can each day. I will be going to Chicago, Ames, and St. Louis Furthur shows so I don't know if I'll be able to on some of the days but I will try.

Here's the links from the Downloads so far. Hope this helps everyone out that didn't get the shows. Love is Real♥....

What's this nonsense about 'dead air'???

Thanks again for this great run of songs, and thanks to Canyon Critter for giving the links to all the songs for those who didn't manage to get them in time, for whatever reason.

What I don't understand are the complaints about the 'dead air' at the end of today's Easy Wind. I'll admit that the volume after about 8.10 is very low, but it's absolutely no dead air; there is sound there.
People who do not hear that probably have attended too many rock-concerts without protecting their ears...... ;-)

Thank You Canyon Critter

Thanks not just for the downloads but for the acknowledgment of the people who work so hard for us at Dead.net. I'm an old timer and the Canyon Critter's efforts are a prime example of old school Deadhead activity. there is a challenge with something working the way it is supposed and someone in the group has the skills to make it work better. They step up, out of love for all, to make it right just because they can. Canyon Critter, we love and appreciate you.

May the long time sun shine upon you
All love surround you
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on.

And thanks for the downloads.

Clue for Saturday's song

From Twitter:

"DeadNet Clue: A Jerry Garcia solo song that is best-known for its life as part of the Grateful Dead's live repertoire since its debut in 1971."

Hmmm.... "Bird Song"? "Sugaree"? "Loser?"
