November 2
We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2011 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by tape archivist David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue & date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win the prize of the day. Each day a winner will be selected at random, so take your time and make your best guess! Answer correctly, and you will also be automatically entered for our Grand Prize - an All Music Edition of Europe '72: The Complete Recordings. What are you waiting for? Grab today's song below.
Thank you for playing 30 Days of Dead. The answer to this day's contest is:
Williamsburg, VA, William And Mary Hall - College Of William And Mary
09/24/1976
Coming out of "Drums," this "Slipknot" is unique due to its manic double speed tempo. The band was experimenting with tempos and arrangements in 1976, although this is a one-off, it sure is cool.
Today's winner is: Samantha K from North Carolina

That Slipknot is epic!!!! I have never heard a version like that, too cool!!!! Thanks for this nugget of goodness.

This is so cool that the second song on the downloads is from the first Dead concert I ever went to. I was a freshman at William and Mary and living in a dorm that was in view of William and Mary Hall. I decided to go on a lark (really someone's recommendation) and I guess the rest is history. The Dead only played there one more time (1978). Unfortunately they scheduled that concert during Parent's Weekend, and some were offended. Hard to imagine why.
Hi all, I am just wondering if anyone has this problem, I have 36.1 MB on this down load (Nov 2) and it cuts off at the end. Am I missing something? thanks
This one does indeed cut off. A miss.
november 3 2011 is SHAKEDOWN STREET from the following date
March 20, 1992 Copps Coliseum - Hamilton Ontario Canada
this is 100% true.
done and done.............
9/24/76 William and Mary..sorry for the typo on the previous
I will climb, fall or rise to get me some Terrapin!!
I went with Indy 76 cause I was there!, but I was at Auditorium Theater, Chicago 76 also, I remember babbling at the sound board guy (Bear?, Healy?, I don't know, he had very long hair) during intermission cause I had to talk and felt so good about it (you may know why) but the man was like get lost I'm busy. Anyway I dug those shows.
no?
Great tune though, thanks.
.. just scroll up on this page and in the top right you'll see "PAST DAYS" and under that just click on the Day you want and you can download it from there.
Silly me, I didn't see that the first time through. Was too excited to listen and get my guess in.
My guess: 9/24/76 William & Mary.
Sounded like Slip out of Drums to me. And that means William & Mary.
Anyway to get yesterday's download? I was off a bit.
I wrote yesterday some tips for downloading. Your supposed to hold down control for a MAC in order to download.
Here's the other tips:
Helpful Tips For Download
for another cool month of free Dead downloads. It appears that some lessons were learned from last year's trial run. I think that this is a great way to get the Deadheads together.
Helpful heads, I'm having a crisis! For some reason I can't seem to actually DOWNLOAD the song. It says "right click save as", but where the heck would I find that? I'm using a Mac, is this year's offering not available to me? Help! Help!
Slipknot > Franklin's Tower oh yeah..... All I can do is smile smile smile :)))))
Without any research I'm guessing '76, very fast with Keith EVERYWHERE! Let's hope Phil is paying attention as he comes East. New Potato>Drums>Slip!>Franklins! There's your 2nd set for Manchester tomorrow!
oh yes I am!
Diggin' the artwork too, thanks Canyon Critter.
Love a good slip > franklins! thanks :)
My husband is a huge Dead-Head...He got me addicted to the music when we got together almost 5 years ago. I love the music now and am glad that it is something we can share together :)

This year's 30 Days of Dead is like a breath of fresh air compared to last year's inaugural edition!
This year: easy downloads that work fast & well, all previous songs remaining available after their day has passed, recipient of the giveaways being chosen from all correctly submitted choices - independent of submission time, each day's song comments archived per day on their own page --- This is so much more pleasant!
Thanks dead.net! It is great to see these improvements.
Oh, and more great music too!
Ed
To my Birthday! Oh and yes, if you click on NOV. 1st I posted last years artwork with the explanation that I will have to be inspired by a few more songs b4 I create more. Last year I came up with 5 or so designs for Album Artwork for your ipod or pad or phone or is there anything other than itunes now?
Also last year they came up with some album artwork themselves. Either way give me about a week and I'll come up with some cool stuff.
William and Mary College Hall on September 24, 1976
If whoever designed the artwork for last year's run would do so again, that would be a grate gift for which I would be thankful.
This has to be GD live at William and Mary College Hall on September 24, 1976....only 28 more days.....thank you for giving us this gift again.
Any "official" artwork availble this year? I'd love to have some covers for the "30 Days of the Dead" collection, both 2010 and 2011.
Cameron Indoor Stadium; Duke Univ., Durham, NC (9/23/76)
William and Mary College Hall ...9/24/76.
I'd say it came from 07/09/77

this is my first time posting in this site so I hope I am doin it right.
PS- thanks for the downloads. YAY
Slipknot coming out of Drums...> Has to be William and Mary College Hall on 1976-09-24
so how do i get the free download, will they email it to me or what. also where can i get yesterdays song if anyone can help thanks.
I don't agree with the plethora of "Sunshine Nazis" on this site who lay into anyone who submits a complaint or disapproval. But I do want to drop an extra thank you for the improvements you folks have made over last year's trial run! Smooth-running downloads, (except for the privileged few who can afford iMacs) having previous tracks available after the initial offering, and making the contest lottery-based, rather than rewarding people on different schedules or time-zones.
All improvements noted, and greatly appreciated! You lot are the best.
I only looked briefly but the time of this is 13:50 with Franklin's running around only 6 min .. I couldn't find anything close to that .. must be doing somtin' wrong
Just realized not eligible for this contest. Not valid for Canada. AHHHHH wanted a chance at winning Dead stuff, plus fun to figure out the answer. Oh well, will have to be content with getting some new free tracks. Still, crap, crap, crap. Feel like a spoiled 4 year old, but hey it sucks.
to yesterday's?
6-17-75 or 6-3-76 ?
Not near my collection to check...
Is under November 1. :)
Beacon Theatre, New York, N.Y. - 6/14/1976
College of William and Mary in September of 1976...
"That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by tape archivist David Lemieux!"
I think this means that these will be tracks that have yet to be released.

killer slip- love that piano.
...but that it's from the vault. Ami I missing something?
I guess Oakland Coliseum, but own this DPs and don't believe it's it -- but it sure could be!
Sorry I am new to this didnt realize it was not a first person right who gets it ordeal
I will keep my guesses to myself, lol
Does anyone know where one can find the correct date for yesterday?
I would say I don't like the help that others' guessing provides, but since it isn't a first-person-right-wins ordeal, I will take all the help I can get :D
YAY 76!
nice version, I used my deadbase X but think i goofed . .
