This was primarily an acoustic number earlier in 1970, and then slipped into the electric realm. It was only played once in 1971, but was otherwise a steady part of the repertoire 1970-1995.

I just stumbled onto the correct version on the Archive :)
Clues point to a show whos electric set is on the archive but not this set. Is that right?
..I think I found it in the archives, believe you may be a day early if I remember correctly .. HINT: Bobby gives a dead give away but if I remember correctly it is cut out of one of the versions on the archive
I misread one of the clues.
with you lovely freaks and my DeadBase, ive actually gotta chance most days . . . thanks
tony
Nice tape glitch in there makes it even easier...
gotcha.
I just love these late spring 1970 acoustic sets. I think my favorite is 5/2/70.
Great choice for a Sunday morning. Thanks to whoever is responsible.
no doubt about that. Thankfully we have 1965-74 to choose from. Thanks for the clues, everybody. This was the easiest one since Charlie Miller ID'd RFK a while back.
Really I don't think it had anything to do with the drugs (and I think you were being humorous).
That was a trend in the mid-70s, and not specifically applicable to GD shows, IMO.
man, this one was easy thanks to the acousticness and Bobby's comment.
a real treat to get an original-style bluegrass FOTD, before the wrong drugs kicked in and slowed things down.
So was the title of "Candyman" left off because someone was complaining a couple of days ago about the use of the > symbol when it wasn't a true segue? Jeez, will ya look at the mouth on that gift horse... ;-)
Definitely sounds like the tour with NRPS, great shows out of this era often done Dead acustic, NRPS, Dead electric. I have this show but can barely hear the acustic set on a stereo, thank you so much for making it sound so good!!!!!
Nice little Sunday morning surprise. But not too hard to figure out.
....are you here?
Nice acoustic sunrise! I won't be the first frozen logger here in NH.
...to spend a Sunday morning. Gonna be fun listening to all of the acoustic sets from this year. Check out some of the FOTD/Deep Elem pairings from this era also.
...pretty lady ain't got no friends till the candyman comes around agaaaaaiiiin....

what a delightful start to a sunday morning not only friend but a loveley candyman bonus, but then again everyday is bonus day in deadland.
I believe I was only 5 days old at the time of this show. A shame I was only pooping my diapers instead of appreciating the 19 song second set to follow....C'est la Vie!
Well, one of us is wrong I only count Max 17 .. depending on what text file you read and if one counts "banter" as a song or how many times they do or do not count drumz? I do count 19 from previous night?
this one seems to me to be lesh bass
but more phil....

only thing missing is a cold lumberjack....
so many highways
does your dog have a nose?
that was a kooky show (really good tunes, but insane crowd)...gate crashing, folks hanging off the balcony, marshmellows flying all over the lawn. i sold bagels & cream cheese for gas money home, my first vending lol. i also clearly remember dancing up on the lawn underneath a tree when Crazy Fingers started and my friend asked me what that was, he was just enthralled with it, echos on Jerry's voice and Brent's piano work was really well miked. i'll have to look that one up again
anyhow, wondering when else this silly joke was told?
Looks like they might have had a little Southern Comfort before the show. Also, debut of a Weir/Hunter tune...
... looking for that Candyman.
Damn...I need to win this one!! I play guitar man!! Who ever wins, talk to me! I'll make ya a deal! haha
classic friend of the devil from a tight run of shows when they were doing acoustic and electric sets.
I'd look forward to a Dave's Pick release of one of these shows.
thanks david
These would be more difficult if Bob was so chatty :)
always the perfectionist isn't he? like jerry's little chuckle in there too.
What a great Candyman i love the faster early version Looks like a great show to, makes it alot easier to find when its two songs
And wow Look at that Cold Jordan Look at its deep water look at that wide river hear the mighty billows roll.
seems like there are 2 songs here, not just one.
gonna be hard to prove this one
sounds sweet though
oops posted that already on yesterdays. but to retract my last comment it didn't turn out to be so hard, there were just a few shows that i was not going to be able to listen to to be able to verify my guess, but as later posted once again there it was...
i'd vote for this to be a dave's picks too
