Grateful Dead
November 14
We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2011 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by tape archivist David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue & date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win the prize of the day. Each day a winner will be selected at random, so take your time and make your best guess! Answer correctly, and you will also be automatically entered for our Grand Prize - an All Music Edition of Europe '72: The Complete Recordings. What are you waiting for? Grab today's song below.
Thank you for playing 30 Days of Dead. The answer to this day's contest is:
Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Civic Center
03/26/1973
This was the earliest played songs that would appear in later 1973 on Wake of the Flood, with the ½ Step debut coming in mid-1972. Technically, WRS Prelude popped up occasionally as early as 1971, but that sounded more like the playing out of a melodic thought than an actual song performance.
We'll be contacting the winner shortly.

I think the boys could sing this with a tin cup and a spoon and the audience would still go wild every time. This tune just had that magic of lyrics and rythm that made everyone jump up and start marching.
Dear David
I believe I read somewhere that WRS-P was Bob's warm-up exercise which he finally developed into a song.

David,
To many releases from 1977 and very little from 1970. Why not release 9-20-1970
awesome acoustic and electric show. It is complete. My favorite caution!
Did you get that Road Trips from 5-15-70 (vol 3 no.3, still available)? That was a good one. With the bonus disc you got both early and late shows. I like 9-20 also, it's got the new American Beauty material.
the crabcakes clue was the clincher - I had listened to snippets of every Half Step from the year i knew it was, but didn't hear the right one (it's not that easy to sift through 20+ versions while at work ;)
haha, agreed. kinda difficult to keep jumping back and forth from excel to this, but it's too much fun to stop
is it just me or is this one a little harder to find...
Hang in there. Consider the clues scattered below: Wolfman Jack, crab cakes, The Raven, Eyes/Dew combo, snare drum, "Thank You," Donna.
thanks. got it.
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'
I want that game so bad!!!
i'll take mine with a side of crabcakes...
Please keep them coming through Christmas.
It would be a dream of Jerrys
I'd REALLY like that Deadopoly!
that snare drum at the beginning was an easy give away. Only version I heard with that in the intro
Thanks!
Thanks for the Monday morning STEP david
...consistently, like "Iron Man". Seriously though, great show David! Streaming it now at work, which has made Monday a rare win for me. Everybody wins with this show!
I love this contest for bringin up some forgotten shows that I have in my library. Nice to revisit this Eyes-Morning Dew combo in this one, if I remember correctly.
BTW, my 3 y.o son likes to sing along to Cats Under the Stars. SWEEET!
Our 5 year old likes Cats Under The Stars too, Mergz -- it's been her favorite song since she was 3.
Finally got one synced up - nice youthful sounding Jerry on this one. Reminds me of an oriole singing.
Thank you everyone responsible for putting '30 Days' together. You really know how to put us all in a grateful, thankful and giving mood this time of year. Long live the Grateful Dead!
This was a fun one to find! I might just be paranoid but now that my skull has stopped echoing I think I heard a seed drop from an old Jef Jaisun tune playing in the background!
3Phase, Great job with the song-list and the notes that follow, keep up the good work brother man.

We're finally getting some winners for the list but I think the 'Weekly Winners' were something from last year so that section in the file will be going bye-bye.
no, thank you donna jean!
and I came out in second place.
triple take
Beautiful. Nailed this one right away quite by chance. Thank you, Donna.
Just like Wolfman Jack
