Thank you for playing 30 Days of Dead. The answer to this day's contest is:
Landover, MD, Capital Centre
07/29/1974
This was the first Grateful Dead show at the Capital Center, which had opened in 1973 as home to the Washington Bullets, with the NHL Washington Capitals starting to play there as an expansion franchise later in 1974. This was a show performed with the full touring Wall Of Sound.
We'll be contacting the winner shortly.

Thank you for 30 Days of Dead! Loving it!
I can't believe we have made it twenty days into November and I am the first one to post this comment...How dare the keepers of the vault only make a single song available for downloads each day?!? We demand complete shows! Complete shows or NOTHING!
(please note that the sarcasm meter is all the way up to 11)
Seriously, though, the selections just keep getting better and better. It must have been a blast putting this together. Thank You!
Unless I am way off, this one was pretty easy.
WHY HAS NO ONE DONE THIS FOR A CLUE YET?
There are few moments in Dead history where I can tell within 10 seconds what year we are listening to. This is one of them. Arguably my favorite year. Today is my birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present. Thanks Jerry.
Happy Happy Birthday
The timbre of Jerry's voice
The keyboards
Is that only one set of drums?
The jam it appears to have come out of
knowing your spanish
the tell-tale signature of a reel to reel deck turning off at the end of the track
Now if only the archive was up!
One was has already been picked...
and, btw, it's nobody's fault, but that clue made it too easy.
from this era. And with the instrument characteristics (like your in list, **and no bottom heads on the kit! haha**), it makes it pretty easy to find.
They pull off the same combo 7 yrs later at the same venue, which is a pretty good show, but I favor this one for sure.
The archive is down again, but I think I got this one. If I'm right it's another feather in my Cap.
Does anyone know if "the Wharf Rats" still meet to do Narcotics Anonymous-type meetings before Furthur shows? I remember reading that they met at many shows during the 1980s and 1990s, but has that tradition continued on?
"The other half found me stumblin' around drunk on burgundy wine."
Yep. Still do. Saw them at Furthur 10 days ago.
Yes, I saw their table at the Furthur show in Columbus last week.
Thanks for the update D-Rae! I think the Wharf Rats were absent from the Ratdog shows I attended as I usually looked for their group and didn't find any, but I remembered seeing a table set up at a "Dead" show in 2004.
This Wharf Rat is Dead easy.
Great song, great intro jam, great show. There were a series of shows that featured this particular jam>wharf rat, a pairing that maybe came from the pairing of dark star > wharf rat. nice little portion of a really solid show, although the next show was probably a better one....
thanks david, really solid selection here.
Yeah, this one was pretty easy to narrow down. Thanks for all the tunes, dead.net!
can only mean one
Nobody's Fault but his
Sweet, sweet, sweet way to begin Sunday morning. Not that hard to figure out though.
Love me some Spanish Jam
The only tune that could've topped Eyes for me...Wharf Rat! Love this song! LOVE. THIS. SONG!!!! Thanks Dave!!!
(haha, I've listened to three different Wharf Rats tonight!)
