I can't imagine what it was like, the love of the dead tribe is so fierce in New York it takes you away from the harshness and helps you discovrer new lands. But to take this high energy to Canada oh the symbiotic effect, must be similiar to West end high very sweet very special. It is all about the tribe and the warriors will fall on their swords for the greater good, so glad so much was about BRent in this giveaway, it is almost unbearable to think upon why he is not among us; They always call the angels to heaven whilst while we devils live on and prankst.

I'm thinking they got caught up with some other projects....I got back home from the Midwest Furthur Tour.....and it was SMOKIN'. Had a friggin' blast dancin and singing across the midwest. Not to mention Thanksgiving was a good lovin' family time.
Anyway, I think I could easily finish up the artwork and the back covers, now that I'm home. I have a couple of questions for you all.
1. Do you want to stay on the theme that was provided by Dead.Net on the artwork?
2. Any ideas or "feelings" you have after listening over the last 30 days? I mean I've had a very nostalgic type, vintage feeling. You?
3. We've Determined 5 discs is that correct? Just gotta put 30th Day on the First Volume, right? I haven't fact checked this yet.
4. More Ideas, I can do almost anything you want with the art.
Thanks for the ideas.
~Critter
I will be laying this out tonight and tommorow, along with the Terrapin Furthur Video from Calveras County 2010, but I need ideas.
Good thing I have a plethora of Kind from California and a big stack of new "Lot" glassware to boot, along with a nice gifted bottle of Bombay Sapphire, I think I will be working all night on this one.
Good thing my beautiful woman is asleep. Sometimes I can't concentrate with this "Goddess of the Night" when she's awake.
And now for a "William Tell Bridge"
This is 3/28/69 in Modesto, CA where they played some of the best music your ears could stand to hear. Dark Star>Stephen>The Eleven>Death Don't Have No Mercy>Lovelight.
From David's Taper Section October 18 - October 24 2010 Taper's Section
You might have to "sit" through a darkstar first, but believe you me, this is TGOGD at it's best.
Will there be more cover art updates?
11/30 - has to be a Morning Dew...
There wasn't an Eyes last time either.
Eyes of the World is my all-time favorite GD song especially with a sax involved.
If no Eyes tomorrow that'll be 60 songs including the last 30 days of GD without an Eyes.
I would rather get a killer Eyes and not the coked out versions of the early 80's either where the band play it high speed. I like 74 & 91(Bruce) versions the best.
'Critter, I'm still doing it this year, too, but the 'New, New Gollum Captcha Blues' flagged me as a spammer after I posted the same url a few times. It locked me out of posting public comments for a few days so I "stopped doing that".
I hope this one goes through and doesn't lock me out again:-

Thanks Brother...Truly Appreciated. (~);-) Gotta watch out for them Deep Elem Blues spam flaggers.
Ok, More ideas on the artwork would be nice. I like the Seasonal (fall), Family, Good Lovin', and Nostalgic ideas so far. Any more, I need feelings people for Inspiration.
ok why cant i download this great china rider?????????????????????????
Be more specific....problems how, system, what, who, plugged in? and all??
I couldn't download by entering the venue and date as nothing would come up. I finally had to download through the download only link. No biggie as I got the download but it would have been nice to finally enter a correct "guess" after an 0 for 28 November.
I've actually had your problem as well. What I did is what it said (May take a "few" minutes) and let it sit...that helped, try it again with the guess. I'm assuming (my Dad always said never assume but hey) that it has to do with all the downloads from across the world. It takes awhile for the server to get a break for the "less important" commands in the queue... For instance, I just stream, guess, then download only when that happens.

I was going with what you were saying about feeling nostalgic and a good loving family feeling... how about some artwork that reflects the time of the year... kind of fallish and the spirt of getting together.. bridging gaps and all of that. I know it's kind of vague but just a thought. I myself would like to say how thankful I am for all the great music you all provided... thank you.
Great Idea....Family, Fall, Bridging Gaps, Love and Spirit....yes that's just one of the inspirations I'm looking for.
Oh and it would be ALOT easier if I someone already made up the list (I think 3Phase did it last year) on the times and songs and venues.
If not don't fret, I don't have to work tomorrow, I can come up with it all if needed.
And then comes along the penultimate song...
Forget about the contest, the giveaways, searching, searching, searching for the correct show....
This one reminds us that it's all about the music. Right around the 6 minutes mark I was rendered unable to continue working! I had to stop typing - stop thinking - about anything except the sounds coming from my speakers! How glorious!
THANK YOU
Someone asked what the transition jam was called. It's the Feelin' Groovy jam, isn't it (around 6:40 to 8:20 or so)?
Funny, a couple of people commented on the working on the RR hint in the transition. The first thing my wife said when I played that part for her (she's not a Head): "Sounds like Jerry's going to play 'I've Been Working on the RR.'"
I don't know if I should feel real smart or real stupid. I never look at the comments before I guess. I listened earlier today and got back to it later, thinking '74. Then I looked on Archive and the first one that I see that matches the time sounds like a perfect match. Finally I get time to guess and download and the date and venue turn up on the download!
The Songs are great! Great Month! Just sitting here watching Dead Ahead and wondering: Is there any more material on the 1980 Radio City Music Hall shows? Also, I saw Furthur @ UMASS in Amherst and they were great! Bobby and Phil can still rock it!! This website is GREAT!! Keep up the great work!!
You can find several of the RCMH shows from 1980 at www.archive.org.
Go to this link http://www.archive.org/details/GratefulDead , then you can search by venue, date, song, etc., some you can only stream, others you can download. Enjoy.
or someone forgot to rename the tagged MP3 file... :)
thanks again David, excellent sample of an obviously premiere show.
It would seem awkward that the tracks line up time wise so that the 30th day ends up all alone on a CD. Still waiting for the rest of the artwork for the other disks.
Here's to hoping that the 30th day is a nice long Other One with a song or two in the middle, possibly with Cryptical Envelopment that would fill the majority of a CD. The song is noticeable missing from the list, and I would love to see it!
I'd also be happy with a great Terrapin...
The one problem with the daily order is that it would require six discs (for 80 minute discs).
Disc 1: Days 1-5 (55:30)
Disc 2: Days 6-9 (74:56)
Disc 3: Days 10-17 (74:41)
Disc 4: Days 18-24 (70:38)
Disc 5: Days 25-29 (79:13)
Disc 6: Day 30 (???)
However, if you switch the order of tracks from Days 6 & 7 (Estimated Prophet > He's Gone & Dark Star, respectively), then six tracks fit on Disc 1 and then the rest falls into place on four more discs:
Disc 1: Days 1-5 & Day 7 (79:07)
Disc 2: Day 6 & Days 8-11 (75:25)
Disc 3: Days 12-20 (76:46)
Disc 4: Days 21-26 (72:03)
Disc 5: Days 27-29 (51:37) + Day 30 (up to 28:23)
but the cover art for disk one stops at track 5 at the starlight
maybe thats the hold up on the cover art- they are reworking it?
like the dead themselves always a work in progress, full of suprises, with no rhyme or reason, (except i guess some lyrics rhymed) but always pure enjoyment and a bucket full of fun
it aint over til the fat man sings
and we bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodniiiiiiiiiiiight
After seeing all the rest of the front covers and the final song, the total time for all 30 Days is 6 hours+. 6 covers and 6 hours means each volume should be about an hour, which matches how the first back cover is arranged:
Disc 1: Days 1-5 (55:30)
Disc 2: Days 6-8 (61:26)
Disc 3: Days 9-13 (60:51)
Disc 4: Days 14-21 (61:56)
Disc 5: Days 22-26 (63:38)
Disc 6: Days 27-30 (59:31)
This is from the Wall of Sound Tour in Vancouver, BC, Canada at P.N.E. Coliseum on May 17, 1974...love that earlier idea, "hoodies for everyone".
What will tomorrow bring to close this 30 Days of Dead 2011? Hope we've all behaved so that we get a bonus track.....
...Wake up Betty, see what tomorrow brings. Well it might bring sunshine, and then it might bring rain...
...
Hi all,
Wanted to ask for some feedback -- I'm planning on taking these 30 tracks and turning it into a 5 (or so) cd set to gift to some of my friends and family for the holidays. My question is, if you were to be a recipient, would you rather that the tracks be rearranged into chronological order, offering more of a "through the years" listening experience, or do you like the randomness of a 60's track followed up by a 90's track?
Thanks again for the feedback!
Cheers,
Brendan
Thanks for all the advice!
If they followed along with the event id say just as we got them if not Id prolly appreciate them in order by year too as a retrospective.
Instead of CDs consider some inexpensive usb flash drives. You can add a holiday greeting video, photo, art, memories etc etc. Customize it with a tag with the setlist, draw little stealie or bolt on them. You get the idea. For 5 bucks they get some sweet music and something they can keep and actually use over and over. Personable, thoughtful, useful.
No i dont sell usb flash drives but maybe i should start huh?
I actually have it set up both ways in my iTunes. I find sometimes I want to listen to 30 days as released, other times I like to hear it in chronological order. That give a nice sense of the development of the band. When I burn discs for friends, I weigh their knowledge of the band ad decide how I am going to give it to them. Right now everything fits handily on five discs. Tomorrow will throw the released order onto a sixth disc. Depending on the date of tomorrow's offering, the chronological discs may be able to hold at five. There is still lots of room on discs 1-3. Four and five are already maxed.
I consider both 30DOD series to be best as they were originally presented. This is how they were intended to be heard. I have both set up in order of how they were offered to us. I think this maintains the integrity of the event the best.
I guess I don't agree with the sentiment that "this is how they were intended to be heard."
If Dave happened to put songs in a different order - what would that change? Just the dates that we received these awesome free gifts. It's basically just an awesome mix and the integrity of the music is in no way changed by the order, Tapers have often put the the encore at the end of disc 1 or even parts of post d/s on the end of disc 1 etc, etc.
I guess my 2 cents is that the order matters very little in this particular instance.
IMHO if I were making a tape/cd mix for a friend or even for myself I would take what I had and make it flow the best I felt it could.. for example I highly doubt I would ever put a Let it Grow before a WRS (which includes LIG) back to back on a mixed CD.
Just my humble opinion .. Let It Flow as you see fit .. it's a great mix no matter how it ends up.
I'm trying reverse chronological order, 90s to 60s. Like opening the 2nd set with drums.
for tomorrow's song, I really can't wait for NEXT NOVEMBER!!! I love this little game we get to play!
I'm saying either Terrapin, Eyes, O1 or GDTRFB>Bid You Goodnight. (My guess, not requests. Dave, you've done so well this year I'm sure you'll nail the closer!)
Thanks again!!
As for this China>Rider, I loved it from the first note and immediately thought, "Why is this NOT released already???" Hopefully today's "Goof" was a clue of things to come!
I wish they would of always played that part with this awesome jam on all their Chinacat->Rider's. Really ya can't go wrong w/ any Chinacat->Rider's. Faster the better w/ songs like this in my opinion. Hopefully we'll get the Other One tomorrow. 74 Rocked!!!
The other characteristic of today's release is how fantastic it sounds--well balanced, sharp, crisp--almost as though it has already gone through the audio re-engineering process and rendered into an HDCD. Not that the other SBD's used in 30DOTD are bad, but this one seems a cut above quality wise.
My 2c
I've died and gone to heaven. Thanks David. Send us out on a high note tomorrow!
Happiest lot of people that ever I saw,
Yes sir
Thank you Dave and Everyone,
Long Days and Pleasant Nights
1974-05-17 - P.N.E. Coliseum
Fill in the blank, since there's no guessing today.
I'll submit Etta James' assessment:
Grateful Dead is the best American blues band in the world.
Thanks for a great month of music, y'all.
wow, what a great month!!
our 30 day box set is almost complete.
i wonder what they will close with?
thanks so much for all the music !!
1974/05/17 P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
w00t.
Awesome China/Rider. Wonder if the extra data was a mistake or a hint of things to come. The Vancouver and Portland shows would be prime release material.
