i second that thought

I second Shrenew's comment. I don't have enough knowledge of the concerts to play the game but I have been listnen for decades and have a lot of live tracks.

The tracks from here for the second straight year are exceptional. Some of them hard to get like Like the new speedway boogie. Also I finally got a version of Easy Wind that I think rivals the give and take between the percussion and the guitars on the studio track.

Please keep em coming.

Thank you for the great series--I'm not knowledgeable enough to play the date/venue guessing game, but it was such great fun to open the "present" each morning, especially the awesome epic versions of "Dark Star" and "Playing."

And hey. maybe it would be fun for you, Dave, if next year you built YOUR ideal show. From opener to encore, in 'proper' slots and pairings. That might make some songs easier to guess for some, but... just a thought. you could also add a little side game called 'what will they play next?' :)

now, about today's tune. this was never one of my faves, probably just because i got on after they stopped playing it. but, having listened to a lot this month, i gotta say... this combo is super hot. i also don't quite get repeating tunes. seems easy enough to not repeat any, but what do i know. still a blast, and if i don't like i can piss off, right :)

thanks everyone at dead.net. and if you think about complaining, ask yourself who else does this sort of thing. long live the dead!

A curious choice for a duplicate, especially considering that this one is so much better than Nov. 22nd's. No shortage of songs, common and obscure, to present. I really thought they'd go out with a bang.
But it has been great and I'll miss getting up and rushing to the computer for the day's surprise.

to quote Dr. John

"Thankfulness to the band and all the fellas."

Seriously, for those of us who might not be as able to go shows as often as we used to, this little game of ours is a great example of our community truckin' on into the future.

Maybe Canyon Critter or someone will continue the game, like last year. But anyway it goes, these songs are a real treat, a fun way to discover new shows we hadn't heard yet or forgotten, and we all hope this happens every year!

PS I prefer the chronological order for this set, though i haven't taken the time to do the disc breakdown yet.

Thank You Everyone

Thanks Dave and everyone at and on Dead.net, I had so much fun with this series. I learned lots of new things I never new about the Dead and enjoyed passing info with one another. This is what its all about, sharing music and helping us pick out those gems in the archive. I may have never known some of these recordings and with the remastered sound quality! Yes, I am a huge fan and hope to play again next year.

heh, although I would have loved to have the song before LL as the song of the day, I'm grateful for any and I thank you so much. I've had that winning feeling just by participating in the game, going back to listen to the music, coming on here and exchanging pleasantries/hints with other heads. It's been a great 24 days (I had to miss the first 6), and I ended up 24-0.

Thanks again to all and enjoy the upcoming holidays :)

But if the Dead live long, we'll be singing their songs,
And we'll all be so glad
Mama hated diesels so bad!

Probably the most highly coveted Grateful Dead show ever. I have seen a few with the right answer. Most of you have narrowed it down to the year; '77 of course. Why has it not been officially released??

disc breakdown

I posted a different breakdown on the November 29 posts that would fit on 5 discs. But seeing as they've posted 6 pieces of artwork and the total amount of music comes out to just over 6 hours, here it broken out into 6 nearly equal chunks:

Disc 1: Days 1-5 (55:30)
Disc 2: Days 6-8 (61:26)
Disc 3: Days 9-13 (60:51)
Disc 4: Days 14-21 (61:56)
Disc 5: Days 22-26 (63:38)
Disc 6: Days 27-30 (59:31)

Expectation can creep close to the level of a sin. Ill admit I let my expectations kinda kill the joy of opening this last song. Spoiled brats, are by nature, hard to please. Sad, but happens from time to time. Im working on it! =)

I am trully thankful! Grate versions of music, too much fun this year! Thank you for the wonderful Nov distraction. Thanks to everyone for hints and all the fun comments and memories! Grats to all the prize winners! Happy holidays =)

HAHA!

I almost doubled over after reading your comment. "Why not a Day Job?" HAHAHA! There was nothing like a good Day Job encore to top off a mid-80s night with the Dead. I actually preferred Day Job over Johnny B. Goode though.

128kb/ps!?

Someone best get on the stick - funny it all went smoothly until the last couple days - including the date on 11/29 (the 5/17/74 China - Rider) and now using a 128kb/ps file for a repeat tune sequence on 11/30 . . . I guess things were getting a little too close to just exactly perfect! Cool, though, and looking forward to November, 2012!

Pembroke Pines, 05/22/1977, Dick's Picks Vol. 3 in my opinion. The raging Jerry solo and Keith Moog synth are a bit better than this effort, but both are great.

bravo and garcias

like having to tear down camp and load back into the ol' VW, a happy fulfilled sadness at the end of the run, same goes by here. hopefully i will find myself digging around the archives sometimes as this game has forced me to do, and find some really killer stuff to listen to. such as tonight when i stumbled across 5/18 from this tracks year (sorry no hints but look below) a clean crisp charlie miller soundboard version, great sets, especially set 2 with perhaps the greatest stella blue i've ever heard, and i've heard a lot as that is the name i gave my daughter. if you got time give it a listen it will melt you away ,
thank you (all) for a real good time.

tomorrow morning just won't have the same feeling I've been enjoying these past 30 daze. -sigh-

till next year...

I do know that I, too will be poking around the archives and reading notes in the Base to find more of those tasty nuggets I came across in my searches for the song of the day.

if I find something of particular interest I'll shoot you a pm.

What a great game!

My hat is off to Mr. Lemieux. Thank you for the gifts and have a happy holiday season!

but i have been just recording it
bummer is the archives player doesn't always play through the whole show, get one or two songs, then have to restart, or be on top of it and push the button. sometimes i don't mind "suffering" for three hours to get a great show. plus then after all that effort, it just guarantees i'll get it as part of dave's picks this time around-maybe, thats usually how my life goes :)

Lightning strikes twice!

Didn't see that coming! I thought there might have been a clue in there when I downloaded it. The file said, "Lastlazy" (or something like that). Figured it might be the last, but Donna is in there. So I tried her last show (2/17/79) and although the one from archive sounded close, I'm pretty sure that's not it. (please let me know if I'm wrong on that!)

Anyhow, off to hunt!

Thanks again Dave!! You made my month! This has really been SUCH a wonderful treat! Can't wait for the next go-round!
