Thank you for playing 30 Days of Dead. The answer to this day's contest is:
Colorado Springs, CO, Reed's Ranch
07/03/1969
There is a little hiss on this track during the quieter parts, owing to the fact that this was recorded to cassette, not reel-to-reel. This could be the greatest, most intense version of this song the Grateful Dead ever performed, pure inspiration.
Today's winner is: Devin M. of Highland Lake, N.J.

How Smoking Is This! Thnx Boys and Crew!
were i find my info and you can listen so you know For Sure its the one
Haha, so I've been trying like heck to guess these, and given the clues here, I'm pretty sure I got this one. I could give another clue (if in fact I'm correct) - I think this show took place about an hour and a half south of where I saw Steve Kimock play on 10/22/11...haha.
Anyhow, what are you guys doing to try to get these shows? I have Deadbase IX (I know, a bit dated) and just my knowledge of who was in the band and maybe the occasional, "Well, they played Scarlet like this in '76, man!" (which is probably why I missed that last one...)
Anyhow, I'd like to know your strategy if you're willing to share! I think this is the first one I've got (If I'm right!!).
Keep on keepin' on!

how about the eleven for 11/11/11? too cheesey?
....the Dead's take on a Mark Spoelstra song called "Just A Hand To Hold." It really bears no resemblance to the folk song "He Was A Friend Of Mine," recorded by Dylan, Dave Van Ronk and Roger McGuinn. Not sure if Spoelstra gets writing credits on the Dead's releases.
So far it's been on three releases
1) Birth of the Dead -part of the Golden Road box
2) Fillmore West 1969 Complete Recordings box-(bonus disc only)
3) Road Trips Vol.4 #1 (5-24-69)
I don't have any of those, so I can't check the writer credits.
Anyway, this one was hard to get. It didn't show up in the Setlist Program for some reason. Just had to scour the archive, where I did find some awesome other shows like 12/7/68, which has a live Rosemary--did you know that?_ and also there's what may be the greatest sounding AUD tape of any year from 5/3/69--you gotta hear this, and being an audience it's downloadable.
The cool side effect of this contest is all the great music I hear incidentally.
Great obscure song choice David. I forget how much I love this song, it just doesn't come up a lot.
As for dressing, I prefer Bleu Cheese, but sometimes you just gotta go with Ranch. I like Reed's better than Kraft personally.
..
This set list is not in Deadbase XI either.
Just like mama said got to get your greens down or no desert!
So how about it? 93',94',95' for a Daves Picks...anyone listening?
Thanks again for the daily gift. Todays was sooo.... well you know. One of my favorites so far.
I am listening. I would love to see a copy of 3/21/94 released. I love that show! As for 1995, 6/30/95 would be stellar.
I use setlist.net to find these but this show didn't show up when I searched it. Also not listed in deadbase. So thanks for the clues - led me right to it - didnt even have to listen to it to make sure.
So much more fun than just giving you the answer.
Had a High Time searching today. I love the thrill of an "a-ha" moment!
Have any daily winners been announced yet?
I really enjoyed November last year and am thrilled to see 30 Days come back. Now if we can get a very Jerry Christmas.....
Today's song was great - I found a new show to listen to! I love when that happens!
found this one right when they posted easy cheesey guys
How are you certain that you are correct? This isn't exactly a widely circulated recording.....
its on archive
a little r&r @ r&r
Who would have thought that the GD played the same two relatively obscure songs just 33 days prior to the correct answer?
Neither of these two set lists are in DeadBase IX, BTW.
Guess I should eat some crow with my salad!
Salt Lake City, UT, Student Union Ballroom, University 4/12/69
And that April version is so close that it almost got me, too!
Some of the weeping guitar in today's song sort of reminded me of a song from another, later, show. Then of course I had that riff running in my head but I couldn't remember what it was or where I stashed it so I had to track it down:-
April Fool (0:29 - 3.14 MB flac)
Just Like Tom Thumb Blues (5:43 - 34 MB flac)
Thank you for sharing the music Greatful for your contribution.
Glad you enjoyed the tunes!
I tried to link to the smaller files from the Archive but the "April Fool" bit is stuck on the end of Bird Song, the song right before Tom Thumb Blues, or messed up and didn't sound right when I cranked the volume so I just put my Flacs into Dropbox.
... that was tough one .. I was on a different page than the clues where pointing and hence took my guess on that page .. I just couldn't get the clues to add up .. oh well one day's guess .. i'd be nice to have a discussion page for those that already submitted their guess... of course I get it after I already submitted my answer .. oh well
Since that's what deadnet is recommending for my greens.
Down the lane I walk with my Sweet Mary,
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to guess the Mile High Green Ranch Dressing
was not summer of Love or was every summer back then the summer of Love. Timing is key on this one.
A bold guess would be 1968 but then it's Pigpen on the organ. Is that possible? Otherwise it's from 1969.or maybe, maybe, from Spring 1970, but that's a really wild guess.
Micke Östlund,
Växjö, Sweden
NESSSSS.........
Same year I was born. Which would mean it's from 1988;-) Not......
Or.......... somewhere before 1970. But not too much before.
I was 128 days old hah
I was still 212 days away.
Happy belated birthday!
I am stuck. All clues point to Colorado, but no set lists do. Or is that green grass just a coincidence?
I'd shine my light through the......
Nope - it's not a coincidence.
Had to reply, It's killing me. You're there man.
Look for other posts referencing:
1. The season
2. Type of place
3. Another song title from the setlist (it's a rare cover song)
The most direct venue clue is in the "Textfile Song List".
I found this show on deadlists which links to a source on LMA.
you're on the right track. There are more hints in the comments below.
I spent alot of time last year tracking down all of the tunes- Fun to guess based on the clues.
Haven't had as much time this year, but , I think I got this one.
The huge slices of generosity are awesome! First order of the day is to log onto Dead.net and checkout the latest download. I thought yesterdays Scarlet was a early, early 77 version, but also it's from '76. You can hear that '77 sound creeping in by those last few shows of '76.
Obviously this latest track is from 1969. It's coming out of something. Just lovely.
Also got my Road Trips yesterday, and access to last years 30 days of Dead. The Grateful Dead is providing me with a bountiful harvest this autumn! My grain mill is almost full!
Peace!
any particular pal this song was directed too? Took awhile for me to develop my guess.....
Doesn't appear to be on the archives so I'm SOL.
It's there. Be patient, keep looking, and enjoy the music.
keep looking. As usual, there are hints in the comments below.
i am listening to this show right now, maybe the vault has more of it, I just have 7 or 8 songs. they didn't play this song very often, and only for a few years, but in that time it evolved into this beautiful rendition.
thanks David
Okay, so there's a little hiss but the sound is so clear you can almost smell the horses!
great Grateful Dead, this one really is a #9...
Hmmm ... not too many dates to choose from, and not one of the better recordings out there. Nice version though...
...Finally figured it out. Don't think I would have figured it out without the hint bombs. Thanks folks.
What a treat to look back at the summers of love that I missed but surely inspired my parents to create me. Its hard to not just pack up my back pack and head west after songs like this.
Grate fun as we roll through the fall. 30Daze has been a nice trip back while continuing down the road furthur.
Love and peace to you all!
what more can you say??
almost almost almost gave up
but then there it was
beautiful
green grass and high times forever!
wish i could get a copy for myself- oh wait....
A lovely, lovely way to start the day. Thanks, David, you are a friend of mine!
