30 Days of Dead November 1
He played the end of 1st set starting with High Time and said a good piece of 1st set is missing from vault. Passed out early n forget to enter my guess. should be hard to get all 30. Last year I got about two thirds of the days right. Would have like to see daily winners instead of a grand prize raffle. My girlfriend won the Winterland 77 box set last year but they never sent it to her.
pretty sure dave played this show today on today in grateful dead history, if i saw it right. didn't hear this song though had to head to work, but i noticed the date, and then wait thats not even close to today.
or maybe i was trippin. anyone else notice that?
The feedback squeak as Jerry sings "maybe the dark is from your eyes..." brought all of the colors together.
Normally, its not easy for me to guess the exact year, I can usually get close, but somehow for this version I knew the year right away.
A nice version of St. Stephen, this year -- PLEASE!
Is someone going to put these downloads on their site for Deadheads who can't get here everyday to download like deadroots did the last 3 years?
they keep the past days up all month, in top right should say past days. usually up a few days into dec. too. usually lots of chances to get missed days from other kind folks also.
plinky keyboards fooled me on this one, later than i thought.
Dave, you been holding back this show from us?!? Share please! :)
If we're talking about 3-24-81 at the Rainbow, then Yes, I would love to see this show released too! Amazing setlist! Crackling with energy!
Is someone going to post some cover art for this year's 30 Days of Dead? It would be gratefully appreciated.
Previous years cover art has been really cool. I am sure that there will be something coming soon.
Hey Now 30 Days Organizers,
Just had a fun idea that I wanted to share.... Not sure how much work it would involve for you (I guess depending on how data geeky you are) but wondering if you would consider posting some daily stats for us folks following this every day. Things like...
- How many guesses were made
- How many corrects
- How many wrongs
and who the lucky winner was. :-)
Think it would make it more fun and get more people engaged if we had a sense of the playing field and how everyone is doing.
~ Bro A ~
lot of people asked for this last year too.
Great opener, a few years ago, one weekend while the family was away, I polled my friends to send me their favorite version of Shakedown. So somewhere, I have a whole disc of my favorite Shakedown's. Great for a long fall cruise or hike. I love these projects, it brings out all the fun and trivial things of touring from so many years ago. I was so excited when I received the email this morning! Zeptember, followed by Rocktober into Deadness for November. All the best to everyone. Yeow!
Turkey and 30 days of dead, the only two reasons to look forward to November. My apologies if your birthday is this month. This is a great Shakedown. The only thing I will say is it sounds similar to the one on Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 4, which is from Philly in April of 82.
I'm stopping to pick up some CDs on the way home tonight. Today's recording is awesome, starting off with a bang.
Always a great way to start my birthday with Day One of 30 Days of Dead!
Happy Birthday D-Rae
Happy November, too bad there isn't 365 days in Nov...
another good start to november. thanks dead.net !! really digging this shakedown.
and it looks like they got the 320Kbps working now.
Last year this could be directly downloaded to a ps3. Guess not this year.
so glad to be back in the 30 days. and so glad to be messaging back on deadnet and not facebook. people here are more respectful of spoilers and clues. that said, i am wondering peoples' thoughts of using shows that are audience recordings and not soundboards. seems like previous tunes have all been soundboard sourced (and always unrealeased so thats an eliminator as well) to help narrow things down. matching things up from an aud. recording is more challenging and the challenge is the fun. but just curious what others think about the soundboard only theory. i mean eventually they'll have to use stuff besides board recordings just think 10 years from now (i mean we'll still be doing this right?) looking forward to hanging with you all throughout the month.
ps. if marye is on the bitrate issue no need to worry it'll get fixed
just answered my own question i believe, and look, marye already took care of the bps issue.
all is right with the world again
cant wait to get home from work tonight and tackle day 2
For the most part I have followed the soundboard only. Although last year there might have been a handful of tracks that were aud and/or lost tracks that had no source.
Many thanks, this is always enjoyable. Good for marketing too - gets me listening to (and maybe shopping for) years I haven't been paying attnetion to.
We now have a 320kbps version up, so if you downloaded earlier, you might want to do so again. Sorry for the hassle!
Sure do love the month of November these last several years. Many thanks folks.
I have no idea when where this was played, but it sure is funky and fine and that is the bottom line. Thanks so much to the keepers of the flame for doing this again.
Trying to download this, but I don't think it's working. The site says..."download starting" but nothing is appearing in my dumbphone
And as usual the contest is only open for people living in the US, right?
Anyway, I think I know which version this is before listening to the first seconds.
There's no file there.
MUST try harder ;~}
This Shakedown Street could be from the years 1979 to 1986. I have no idea what the correct date is. But my guess is that this is from a hot good show that may show up as a Dave's Picks in 2014 or 2015 or some other official release, soon.
Here's to round 4! Thank you, PTB, for sharing these tracks with us!
Big Thanks to everyone @ dead.net! Thanks for helping me to "Keep on Keepin on! You made my month!
This is an excellent, way above-par version of this song. I'd say this one is better than the one on So Many Roads. Thanks again for the 30 Days!!
No idea when it's from. Thinking not the 60's.
The explorer in me always loves this! So glad for Archive or most of the time (unless I was really lucky) I would never be able to figure these out. Happy Shakedown Spelunking...
folks, we're sorry to report that due to an error on our part, the current download is not "a high-quality 320Kbps MP3." We will have 320kpbs files up by next week. We're sorry for the problem but we're working on fixing it ASAP.
I look forward to November every year, now that I have 30 days of The Grateful Dead to download! This is what got me hooked on downloading music, it's amazing how much I've learned about my computer, from downloading music!
... we have much to be grateful for this month here on this site. Please if you do not wish to see clues inadvertently just do not read the posts until a few days go by .... that should work out, no? If I/you can't control others, (good luck with that), control myself/yourself.
if you will notice, Dead.net is giving us HINTS this year.
Moribundt (sorry, sp) - they've done this for several years, and you'd be surprised how many folks guess the tunes correctly. Someone posted some nice suggestions below for things to keep in mind.
I usually find I can tell the year immediately, and sometimes the tour (e.g, you know the sound of early May 77 right away). Once narrowed down, you can listen to samples on the Internet Archive... (Sometimes you get lucky and if it's from a show you have, you say, aha!!!)
Wait, what am I saying, this is a contest, and i want to win stuff, so nevermind... it's virtually impossible to guess - don't try ;)
EDIT: PS - I agree about not posting hints. I like the challenge :)
The majority of us do not want clues from the peanut gallery. If you got it, good job.
Just want to say thanks for doing this again. I've downloaded the "30 Days of Dead" the last 2 years and it's the best music on my Ipod. You guys are the Greatest! You make November the best month of the year!
I am so grateful you continue this every year. I look forward to it every November and enojy playing and guessing a lot. Think I might be off to a good start too...maybe, we'll see tomorrow. Spring is always a good time for rainbows.
I appreciate the good tunes, but to be a downer, actually hitting the exact date of a show seems almost impossible for my mind. Multiple choice, of even ten choices, would be nice. I can at least rule out anything pre 1979 for this one based on hearing Brent.
Second year in a row I've been working in Bulgaria during November. The 30 Day concept makes it so much sweeter! Thanks!
I want to express my appreciation for providing free GD tunes. Someone once sang..."and nothin' comes for free". There is a price, thus I humbly say THANK YOU!
Thanks for creating a new tradition!
Looking forward to a great November
