30 Days of Dead November 12
------ TURN OFF FUTURE & FORM -----
It's with deep appreciation and gratitude for you, the fans, that we'll be giving away an MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win our Grand Prize - a prize pack featuring our 2014 releases, merch, and more.
were used in a previous 30 DOD. Lemieaux (sp?) keeps going to that same well. Too bad the water's dirty.
nice win yesterday
maybe they like to show off all the remastered stuff
still like what i hear
you did get my submission yesterday of a correct guess for yesterday's tune, yes? Do you list only the first correct guess, or? Had I checked in on Saturday I would have gotten that one correct as well, having been at that show. Does that make me eligible for the GRAND prize also? Be still my beating heart!
I wrote something about the show I thought this is from, but I was thinking of the wrong show. Sorry, nothing to see here...
Wow--I never won before, and have been doing this since 2010--Guess there're no more daily prizes, but I can tell you, it's definitely not the first guess in wins. I entered on Monday night around 10 PM Pacific time. No way I was first.
I've spent up to 90 minutes at least 6 of the first 11 days, and at least 2 others I threw in a wild guess as I just had to get some shut-eye. But this is a first. One listen and I guessed the year, one click and voila, eureka, I had the match. Feeling a little like the proverbial blind squirrel finding a nut. Protests in this city regarding desegregation and busing made national "news" around this time. I grew up there. It was stressful, harsh, and embarrassing. Thanks to The Good ol' Grateful Dead and their ability to fill empty cups with love.
I am gonna guess tomorrow is going to be a Stella Blue from 74.

Todays song was way to easy! good times, good times.....
What is 2morrows song going to be?
I am guessing He's Gone
"Did you hear what I just heard?" Sounded like someone took a great hit on stage.. Thanks for a great version of one of my favorites!!
Was it perhaps the blowout at Metropolitan Stadium?
the Twins were playing in Milwaukee...Vikings weren't in season yet...maybe the Kicks?
Hey Dancingoldenbear! Not sure Bobby would mention the Red Sox getting blown out to Boston audience! Would be funny if he did though:)
"It's been hot for 7 weeks now.." Maybe it was a heat wave on the news??
The first time for me that someone coughing up a lung (for the whole run of shows it sounds) was the clue that gave it away. :-) Hilarious!
must have been a really nice hit
pass it over to me
I assume this is first in time to guess this since I made the correct answer as well. the rules are ambiguous as they state that everyone that makes the correct answer is qualified. congrats to the person that got it!
I've always assumed the daily winners were drawn from all correct entries that day. Is there maybe an admin person who'd like to weigh in on this? Oh wait, I almost forgot who's website I'm on for a minute here. Rules? What rules? Never mind, carry on.
never been one much for following the rules but it does say that anyone who gets the right answer is entered into the grand prize drawing, but i think i saw in the "rules" that the daily winners are entered to be selected for the grand prize, (which seems kind of lame in the big picture of things) , a little contradictory. and i do miss the daily prizes, they were always kind of a fun joke, and who doesn't like the chance to get some cool stuff. anyway whatever the case i will do this game as long as it lasts, it's a real gas.
good luck everyone and happy listening
i don't think being first to guess correctly makes anyone the winner. i assumed they draw from all correct entries daily. i think the first year they did first right answer, but that doesn't seem fair to east coast (or other places that would have to beat a PST guesser) i know i log on at 12:01 am, but thats just because its the only time i have to really spend time playing
I agree with the previous posts. Some '80 to '85 would be nice, but it's been grate so far!
30 Days for 2013 ~
Brent -5 ; 81, 80, 87, 79, 89
Keith -3 ; 73, 71, 76
Pig -3 ; 71, 66, 70
Vince -1 ; 94
Once again....heavy on the 1970s, 7 of the first 12 days are from the 1970s. Please give us more early 80's songs, 1981-1985 just are plain ignored in every type of release/ download. And yes, I know the first day was a good Shakedown from 1981, but we get one '80 & one '81 song....and then 7 songs from the 1970s. C'mon make the next 7 days '80-'84
i don't think thats a big secret, plays a lot on the dead channel to, but i love it all. missed the pre 80's myself (due to my age) and while i love those later years since it holds a real near and dear part of my heart since it brings up so many memories, (aint no place i'd rather be) its great to hear the older stuff and get turned onto those shows, and imagine what it was like to be able to be there. envious of those who got to experience it.
but love it all
too much of everything is just enough
Same band (mostly). Same songs (mostly). Completely different sound! I saw my first show 1980, started traveling 82-83-84, up to 10 shows a year 85-92 or thereabouts. It seems to be an "accepted wisdom" that the boys were sleep walking through the early to mid 80's, I respectfully disagree. Check out 6/24 and 25 '85 for example.
ok, there were a couple of clicks vetting the clues, but I knew it within 6 months with one listen. what will I do with the rest of my day?
4 iconic teams? That's a stretch. I will give you 3
They put on the best show EVER! The femme fatales duke it out while the house band rocks out. Guzzlie Locks trampled Muffy Winters for the belt - after she announced that her daddy had purchased the Team for his daughter! Boo! Curdley Sue pulled the hogtie on Mary Lou Wretched during her floor routine and that nasty Susie Skrew took Jean Claude Benet down with her own can of hairspray!
without them I don't think I'd have been able to narrow this down given how may times it was played. Just listening to an amazingly clear version of this show over on the archive considering how old it is. Since I didn't get on the bus until the 80's that is the sound I think of when I think of the Dead, quite a bit different than this era. Interesting set list this night, songs I've always considered exclusive to a 1st set in the 2nd and vice versa, and even a JGB tune thrown in for good measure!
But it wasn't Billy's birthday......... Weir just being a smart aleck?
time for some morning tea, 30 Days of Dead is a bonus for all of our GD libraries. Other tracks and nights from this run are out there as we know but this song is in my wheel-house. happy hunting...
Boy you guys are just giving these away with your clues down below. Travis Bean, 4 iconic sports teams, no encore.....Geez! The song's alone are hints enough. Since everyone else is doing it, "some folks would be happy just to have one dream come true, but everything you gather is just more than you can lose."
Doggone! I love this year. Just last night I was listening to the show that took place 3 days earlier. As soon as I heard the first notes I knew the time period.
Beautifully played perfectly from a year a cherish very much but I may in the minority on that. I have often heard things about this year that's not always positive but I have found that to be just the opposite and this is a perfect example.
Like Jehovah's favorite choir! Were they ever here at all?
Six clicks here too- the "news" is in!
Good early version right here. My hint is that during the run that this was a part of, one night did not have an encore (according to Dead Base anyway...).
"Saw it on the news last night"
Got it in 6 clicks also - gettin' better at this :)
Didn't find it in 2 tries, but chasing Hornsby with 6 clicks. Nice tight version, with a tamed down Donna during Jerry's Travis Bean days. 4 iconic sports teams from here.
1st time in 4 years i got it in 2 tries.
i must be getting better at this.
nice version chock full of clues
replying to myself
i suggest a box set of this whole run pretty sweet listening.
on another note just got suckered and bought a top hat skeleton tiki mug how can you resist that thing? i need that thing staring at me on my desk as we speak. if i win the grand prize can i cancel my dave's picks subscription since it looks like it's part of it. wanted to buy early to get the early bird price. how else could i afford that kick ass tiki mug?
livin the good life
76 is great for the renewed energy that the break provided, but lacking the new material that blues and terrapin provided in 77. you can see it coming though, and it turned out to be really great.
I'm a huge fan of this under-served year. I do note, however, that one show from this run at this venue has been released and it includes songs (not this one) from this night, too. Still, in a minute, I take a box from this period!
