There's a familiar name in the winner's circle for day #22. Congrats D-Rae!
Another song new to 30 Days! and the second in two days. What a treat!
Congrats on the win, D-Rae! Methinks that's not your first!
Thank you UncleJohn, and everybody. You are correct! I won back in 2014 or so with a Sailor/Saint. But so nice to see my name first thing in the morning! What a Thanksgiving treat. Especially when you consider how stumped I am on the Casey Jones. I have a few ideas, but hints are welcome!
If its a non-live song, where is this performance from?
Am I just getting old and missed it or has the cover art not been posted yet?
Thanks. I already did that. I thought there would be a separate file like there has been for the past years. Maybe not doing it that way any more.
So are we looking for a soundcheck here? If that's the case, I'm lost..
based on a previous 30 days i have some experience i non concert selections, actually nailed it on first try. Never had that happen to this tone deaf head before, i aced it.
when was there a non concert selection in any 30 DoD?
You might have some trouble ahead if you don't have the proper research material to solve this one. I love these types of rarities on the 30 Days. Keep them coming round the bend, cause you know that notion just crossed my mind..
Just curious what the right research material is for non-live stuff? This is my first year doing this, and I’ve got a nice method going so far (and a nice streak of correct answers since day 2...) If the answer to how to search for this wouldn’t give it away, could you let us all know?
After finding the correct date and location I managed to fat finger my entry. Follow the clue and use The Setlist Program and your Dead Base. Easy peasy.
You'll love it......but don't quit your day job?
Just when I thought I had this down to an art. I am stumped … checked Studio, rehearsals, Sound checks … nothin yet.
Same here. Checked everything from Club Front that I could find. Which I think is where they were primarily rehearsing during this period. I’d love a decent hint on this one.
Anyone want to give any hints on this Casey Jones? I'm lost.
Hadn't been played in a couple of years and wouldn't be again. Last time played was 3/27/93 and had been played 3 months before. So are we looking at a 1995 soundcheck or rehearsal. I have Dead Base 50. I just found a sound check listed in the first 100 pages that it might be from. Is there a tape reference available to check against?
I was also thinking sound check from 95
I am thinking the same thing. But can’t find a good list that contains soundcheck info or any audio. I think they soundchecked it at Vermont in 95, but that’s all I’ve got
Man. Not seeing anything that makes sense here. I mean, the year seems obvious if the hint is to be believed, but I can’t find anything on it...
I will be interested to see where it's from and how people found it.....
I've narrowed down to a couple of possible dates, but if there is a version on the web I haven't found it. Give us another hint.
Rehearsal? Soundcheck? Session? Can’t find audio of this sucker anywhere. Stumped, so far.
I mean usually when people have solved these there are plentiful hints and there are none so far as i can see. First time i haven't had a good starting point to actually research, over than what the clue says but I'm not finding anything to corroborate what i think it is.
and you know this dead-show,
is just hard toooo .....

Well it would seem with so many of us stumped on this non-live Casey Jones, that whoever gets it right will be in rare company and increased chance of winning. I'm going with my gut, but the speed in which this was played in the free mp3 from Dave does not seem synch up well to my ears with the players I suspect are playing, and I could find no recording on audio or video to match it, so my choice is just an edg-a-macated guess given it's time for bed. I have a World Cup to attend to in person tomorrow and it's an early riser for me. Good luck, you Sherlockian Dead Heads.
Well I don’t know how many Lees where at this concert but at least two Bobs and Cherry Garcia we’re gate crashing each other.
PS can’t find this audio.
I narrowed it down to two based on who I thought I heard on the clue and just picked one. I never did find a audio of either.
& flatout giving people ze answer...
which is not so groovy, so easy there not-so-subtle hintsters...
was definitely down & dirty @ this debut-having show...
with many stories, not all good, especially traveling to & fro...
thankful for the day long rain here in SF, we needed it badly...
& congrats D-Rae, always love seeing one of us in ze winners circle... ace.
I wonder where Geoff got his answer from?
I was convinced by a comment from "polkaround" on the Archive page for Franklin County Airport on 1995-06-15:
Polkaround remembers all sorts about the show:
"therewas some strange energy at the show which so coincided with the last ages of Garcia.
"I brought my nephew for the experience and had to sell stuff to make the trip pay for itself, which it did! He was a new college guy and we sold bagels, coffee (French Roast w/ cream aand sugar) and granola bars or fresh fruit, and water
we made about 350 and fed a lot of hungry and scary [people who i never could have imagined that they would ever get home."
And so on, until:
"We both got in early enough to hear Here Comes Sunshine practiced 2 tiems and casey jones once for the soundcheck."
And then some more...
So Geoff - well done! But how did you do it? Pure luck or were you there?
it's going in as Highgate
is how I would describe my search efforts for this particular Casey Jones rendition. I found plenty of Casey Jones songs, but not the one offered as yesterday's selection. If there is a copy of yesterday's selection on the internet, I sure would like to know how to get there! How about it Geoff of New Hampshire? Please share!
There's a little devil on my shoulder that thinks all of us players here have been April Fooled in November! The angel hopes he's wrong.
I guessed Oakland 2-24-1995. So close!
Hard to believe that the band was struggling to remember Casey Jones by 1995 (they played the song live more than 300 times!) and also that there would not be a definitive record of the date and location of this soundcheck in the Dead's archive? I'm still thinking Highgate is the best answer...
