re: Casey's last at bat
The following, from a review posted by Polkaraound at archive for Franklin County Airport 1995-6-15 convinced me:
I remember walking the parking lot with these big thermos' tied to our backs selling coffee to people half asleep at the wheel, sitting idle and waiting hours to get out of the parking lot, butwhen they saw me and my nephew, ....
"Get your French roast coffee" with cream and sugar. Chewy granola bars and apples and oranges, and water.. "
im kind of curous if anyone out there remembers being delivered coffee at 2o'clock in the morning in the parking lot in a traffic jam?
There was something very satisfying in those moments. And we slept in the car for two nights.
We both got in early enough to hear Here Comes Sunshine practiced 2 tiems and casey jones once for the soundcheck.
Easy One...........
After the frustration of yesterday, seems like paddling down a mellow creek. Another new entry too.
agreed
an easy pop up after last nights line drive at the pitcher"s head.
crack open a cold one and check out the rest of this one.
some good ones before too.
and such a nice recording
its worth a listen
In the clouds
I was feeling rather broken after my nearly 3 yr winning streak came to an end yesterday. It was a demoralizing beat down; I was absolutely clueless save for the year. However, after some leftovers and an encore performance of Ron Howard's Eight Days A Week, I had all but forgotten about it. Today I'm back in the clouds again.
So the Casey Jones....
Could be from this show? Haha. Even though I didn't even take a guess... (I was leaning towards a rehearsal session versus a soundcheck)... and the streak was broken, it's cool to have that "rarity" on my playlist.
yesterday's factoid
I guess if you took it literally you would have your answer. It was almost two years to the month that they had last played it. Nice curveball I'd say! Happy playing dead freaks and congrats to Geoff!
Deadbase Updates: Agree Franklin County Field
The final page of deadbase updates says that Casey Jones was sound checked at Highgate VT on 6-15-95 along with a H C Sunshine. That seems a little more definitive than this answer! Check page 67 of Deadbase 50.
Just curious
Is there a written or accessible audio record of this Casey Jones soundcheck anywhere? I found none.
Do we know...
Do we know for sure the CJ is NOT from 6/15/95 as per DB50 p67?
so wrong
sometimes you can be
SO SURE
and at the same time be
SO WRONG...lol
Piling On
Definitely a layup after yesterday. Congrats to the winner. Couldn’t have been many entries yesterday, probably would have been great odds to pick up a calendar!
Easy Answer
And then there's this one.
Day 23 not for newbie
I introduced 30DoD to my daughter’s boyfriend on day 22 and we got it together. He spent hours (as did I) on day 23. Hope he doesn’t give up.
Easy Answer Today
Thank God for Easy Answers. I needed an easy one after that Casey Jones torture. I had better odds of finding Jimmy Hoffa with Waldo. LOL. Can't win 'em all. The show for today's answer has an epic Terrapin. The best one I've heard from this particular era.
Day 23
I entered in 6/15/95 as well, since I saw the update page 67 in DB50. I'm curious to know how anyone would come up with 4/1/95 though? There couldn't have been many that got this one right.
I thought it was 6-15-95 as…
I thought it was 6-15-95 as well based on a comment on the archive. A guy said he got there early enough to hear them rehearsing Casey Jones. Oh well, I would not have gotten it right anyhow. I was waiting to see if anyone would give a hint, and then I just completely forgot to submit my pick.
what does TBC mean
in the end of the official answer from yesterday's Casey Jones???
Casey Soundcheck
With most or all of us being unable to find an audio for CJ,
Hornsby's analogy about yesterday's challenge is pitch perfect!
It appears a lot of us spent ALOT of time searching for the sound yesterday. I enjoyed hearing/learning new factoids about GD and related, listening to or reading through many many resources. I also went with the Vermont show like countless others.
Congrats Geoff!
Smallz- I hear ya about the streak ending! Casey is error #5 for me since the first 30 DOD, while patiently waiting in the GA pit to be a random winner of the day for the first time. (i'm just saying)
Like a Ripley's Believe It Or Not
Congrats to Geoff, pretty cool to hear this version that hasn't been heard before. Just like most others a lot of time was spent on chasing this one down with no success.
I taped at the 6/15/95 show, didn't get set-up until a couple of songs into Dylan's set, but don't remember hearing soundchecks.
A wild goose chase just like trying to find Ottawa, NH!!! TBC!!!
Yesterday was April Fools Day
'This soundcheck is likely from 4/1/95 in Memphis, although without definitive proof, we'll just call it 1995 Soundcheck (4/1/95 TBC)'
what does TBC mean...To Be Continued??

In Search of the Lost Casey...
I dot mind one jot that i got it wrong but how the heck were we supposed to get that when Dead.net doesn't really know either? I don't own Deadbase so i gather then that at least two sources point to 6/15; i used a 'first hand' account as my source which seemed like a good idea at the time. Very sneaky, Dave is. Don't know why i just started talking like Yoda but he probably knew the answer immediately.
Jerry sounds really great on the Casey Jones
hard to believe this is only four months before he died. Who are they teaching chords to, etc.??
I had thought that maybe it…
I had thought that maybe it was Bruce Hornsby, but he only played one show in March and then two in June in '95.
Two months?
Yeah, I thought the same—Jerry sounds really good on CJ. And I'm going with the 6/15 date, so I'd say this is only 2 months before he died.
Re: who they're teaching chords to—sure sounds to me like they're talking to Vince based on the conversation and what's played on the keyboard. He'd only played CJ live with them less than a handful of times, two years earlier, so makes sense.
Another 30 Days newbie...
...and, I freely confess, totally new to me! I went to one show in 1994 and one in '95, so if by chance Easy Answers was played then, it went right over me...which I doubt, since I love it! What a jewel!!
Today's......
song title makes me laugh! No easy answers yesterday, but I definitely found one today!
CJ
The thing about the Casey Jones: Two separate sources indicate it was sound checked on 6/15 (and, judging by the run-through, probably hadn’t been rehearsed in a while) and part of the clue said it was never played again. So the last time it was sound checked couldn’t have been 4/1/95. Am I missing something?
Still glad I got that tasty Casey for free!!!
CJ 6/15/95
That's what I'm saying. Hell if I can find any record of a Casey Jones soundcheck at the Pyramid. And Jerry's pronounced lapsing in and out of the lyrics, sad to say, is pretty indicative of shows in those last weeks before his death. I thought Highgate was a home run on this one.
Confirmed
Looks like Automaticslim confirmed the 6-15 date....
CJ
The 6/15 CJ soundcheck is at deadlists.com and Deadbase 50 update page 67.
agree w/ wildbill
one of easier this nov, agree that in this venue the terrapin just "kill"s
Casey
I agree, highgate
Cheesy Casey Answers
Love you, Dave! After torturing ourselves for a whole day trying to figure out the origins of the non-live Casey (I made a guess, but have not had the courage to check the answer yet) he gives us one that truly lived up to its name. The major clue narrows things down substantially and if you use your 30 Day acquired wisdom, you can nail it on the first try. I was actually at this show and photographed the first four songs from the pit. A very popular venue for this part of the country!
Everybody Gets A Calendar!
I think Dave should pull an Oprah here, and everyone who chose Highgate gets a calendar...
Day 23
I'm with ya on the Oprah call! lol..
Day 23
We've had watergate, spygate, deflategate, and a bunch of other gates... Now we have highgate.. I call for some serious research on this one.. I want proof!!!
Ain't no easy answers, is what I got to say
These last 2 Days have been a challenge. It always sounds so easy, the way it falls upon the ear. Not sure if I have the right show tonight. Good luck
