It's interesting to me that they'd play such a venue so early on.

Honestly

The avalanche of 90s selections makes this ever sweeter by contrast. Deep gratitude for the Dead and in this annual “contest”and in so many other ways the gift of new life.

Loud? Make That Soft

Great selection - and to those of you up north you have our sympathies as the Bay Area has been experiencing an unusually warm (and yes, sometimes sunny) Thanksgiving.

But what concerns me - again - is the volume. JshVck's comment (about the show) notwithstanding, this download is really low level. While its fun to go through the Archive searching for a match, I had to turn down the archive playback volume almost all the way to be able to compare the tracks. Love the choice, but why is the volume on so many of the offerings this year so low??

Well, nothing to do but crank it up and enjoy that bass!

I concur

I had to do the exact same thing. I had the archive version barely audible and the 30DoD version cranked to the max and then had to turn up the overall system to compare and contrast and actually hear what was going on. I thought I was nuts or going deaf this morning. Like you said, why have so many been like that this year?

Classic Show

This show sure started out with a bang. Another classic show.
Easy to pick the correct version when I concentrated on Jerry's unique guitar tone for his solo on a certain section of today's selection.
It was fun to listen to a few versions of "Here Comes Sunshine" as I searched the grey skies of the Pacific Northwest for a sunshine break in the clouds.

Jerry's guitar...

and the keys and Billy's drumming and Phil laying them down, plus a couple other members that add great flourishes at times makes this my favorite year - especially early in the year with the old Nash gift. Dead jazz at its finest.

That Solo..

That solo is what threw me off.. I found another version with that same guitar tone in it, and jumped the gun because it was the only version I had heard from that year... Until, I dug a little deeper and found the correct version after submitting the wrong.. :/ I'll post it tomorrow, once this day is done..

Just sharing, I don't play this "guess the show" game. I don't have the initiative. I don't care.

Grab the free download, which is quiet and doesn't really sound that good, and move on.

Wasn't at most of these shows, born in 1968 and didn't start concerting until the mid-80s when the Dead were in serious decline from their peak of 1972-1977.

It is what it is. I love that these folks give us free songs for a month, and am Grateful. That's all.

Football tomorrow.

Really?

My first show was 69 and last 95. I think there were differences over the years (not a fan of Donna overall), and there were down times due to Jerry's health and deaths, but there were definite strong eras beyond the 70's (most notably late 80's into 1990). Sorry you don't appreciate other eras, but glad you're on the bus.

I respectfully disagree....

If you want a copy of this entire show, it is available on Archive.... and really good quality.

Some of the finest Dead shows were from spring/early summer of 1990. They were playing at a really high level then. I would agree that there was a decline in the 1980's for a while (particularly 1986-1987 due to Jerry's health).

Maybe you should stop complaining about getting something for nothing....IMO.

Re: To any who are thanking me....

It's OK .... the other clues about this being from an "epic show" pretty much nailed it for me before your hint. I knew immediately that I had heard it before, since I have it on cassette. I Wish I had a time machine!

Bob!....Hey Bob!........

Since you apparently control the weather, we here in the good ol' PacNW wanted to humbly let you know we're still waiting for that SUNSHINE which is supposedly coming? So you know.

So called, "Meteorologists" around here seem to prognosticate that it LOOKS LIKE RAIN.......

Well wet or dry, at least the music's good.

Great show...and apparently LOUD.

Totally agree that this one deserves an official release. Last part of the set list feels almost like a JGB show with several good covers. Hopefully any official release will include the *ahem* "suggestion" about volume that can be heard shortly after today's track...

Not too hard if you take the hint literally. I never read comments till after the search, but espan27's increased my confidence. This era was one of my favorites, and this is especially nice. Three shows before an epic.

Today's Offering..

After years of searching for these tasty little tid bits, I finally made a mistake and got today's incorrect.. Don't look too hard for this one like I did.. I think I was searching for something a little more hard to find for some reason.. There is another version out there that is very similar to this one that can be confusing.. You'll have to find that one though.. lol..

What a day...

This is one of the classics in tape collecting. A fine day. Meeting of the minds. Recently read some greater details about the day(s) in a music bio. I synced up 2 versions and got a nice Lee Scratch Perry Dub version of HCS. In the intro I had the 2 versions a second or so off and the guitar melodies kept playing almost at the same time and answering each other so that it seemed like a never ending phrase.

Two Releases on Two Days 2010

I don't remember exactly, but it was some mess up or other - I think once the link to the song contained the date and the venue. Things like that happen, and the Dead folks just released another "official" version of the same tune that day.

Day 5 official selection was PITB, 5/13/73

Day 6 was the Easy Wind, 1/16/70 version

Day 7 should be Sugaree from 10/13/80

He's Gone was Day 8, 3/26/87

To my brothers and sisters thank you so much for being so kind. Thank you to Dave and the band for hooking us up! This version today is top notch! No wasted words and the jam is beautiful. When November ends I always get those come and go blues. But we have these tunes and each other as we dance another ring around the sun.

Phil's Bass Face

Phil's bass playing was so bad ass during this period. I have to check out more shows from this particular year. The length of the guitar solo helped me find this one. Also, Bill's funky drum break near the 6 minute mark is really cool. Thanks to Dave for waking us up with some bright Sunshine. :)

On my sister Sandy's Birthday!

This "Here Comes Sunshine" was played on my sisters Birthday. My sister Sandy (1954-2008) RIP, turned me on to the Dead. My first show was on March 19, 1973, I ran away from home was staying with my sister in her dorm in Farmingdale and I went to the show by myself. When it was over I wasn't by myself and it was my 15th Birthday and the first day of spring. I am so Grateful I am a Deadhead. Hope y'all had a Grateful Turkey day. Thanks Dave. yetay
