I don't care if they say it's from 4-01-95 I don't see any proof of that and clearly they aren't sure themselves ,I'm labeling it the soundcheck for 6-15-95 since Deadbase 50 shows they soundchecked that song along with here come sunshine
Mr. Lemieux, first THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU DO!!! I have found myself addicted to this game.
After trudging though the waters the and All the Answers, I am curious when the song was actually played. I see the new song of the day was posted. Where is the answer for yesterday? I am now officially addicted to this game. Is there a yearlong version? Can we start one? Facebook group?
For Yesterday’s answer (venue & date song was played & who won), you'll see it if you scroll down to the bottom of the main page: http://www.dead.net/30daysofdead
Also, you can find the answer for any song if you scroll to the bottom of the main page & click on any “Past Date.”
I’ve never heard of a yearlong version. But there is an "Unofficial 31 Days of Dead" that happens for the month of December every year. It’s not associated w/Dave or the official Grateful Dead network and it’s not a game, but it has a great download every day & is much fun. Someone usually posts a link to it here near the end of 30 DoD.
Could it really be they meant to say TCB, "Taking Care of Business?" They're claiming it was Memphis, after all, home of Elvis. Of course, it could all be one big April Fools in November! I, too, guessed 6/15, but also thought it could have been 3/23 as I thought I heard Hornsby and a piano. I was at both Memphis shows, but had no knowledge of the soundcheck. Congrats to Geoff. How on earth did you come up with that one?
SO familiar, I thought I'd find it in a hot second, but couldn't find it in the usual places. I had to sniff around some not-so-usual places to find this one.
Im the guy who got the Casey Jones. LOL, what a guess...
On first listen I thought it had that "distinct" (i'll call it) 95 sound...then thinking ok - 95 show I thought it really had the same distinct nightly sound as that 95 pyramid show from what I remember- the mixes of the boys etc.... I used to have a crap load of tapes and listened to them a ton. now its on the computers etc..
Oh, and Ottawa, NH....I really live in Ontario :)...I put NH down because I love the place. Best skiing in the north east!
Ill still take the prize if Im allowed...:)
I had no clue this KCJs soundcheck ever happened, first time I ever entered this contest. LOL - I think ill quit while im ahead hahha,
GL on the fantasy football this weekend,
PS- I have a box full of old tapes...does anyone want them?
I wonder what 95 sound check this CCat->DTR is from :P
and can't delete, so. . .have a great day! ;)
While scrolling through the selections for today's venue, I noticed another error:
Rochester, NY Silver Stadium
Rochester, NY Rochester Silver Stadium
There should only be the first option, it's never been called Rochester Silver Stadium!
Quality Control on Dead.net needs to be tightened up a bit - that seems to carry over onto the Sirius XM channel also...
I love how loose and energetic they sound. You should quickly find this show but I guessed Memphis ‘95 any way.
A leaf of all colors plays a golden-string fiddle... Loving these 30 Days! Thanks for all of the great music. Christmas has definitely come early this year. Good luck to all!
on the site for me this morning, with day before yesterday's selection listed instead of Easy Answers answer/winner, as others have pointed out. Seems to be stuck on all the Casey Jones hullaballoo from yesterday.
You can find a decent Soundcheck of the boys doing Tough Mama in Seattle in May of 1995. Sounds pretty tight.
Also stumbled across Vince working on It's A Man's World with Phil in Oakland from Feb '95. Sounds promising too.
Is it just me or is today’s contest entry missing the fields for name, city, email, etc.?
clearing a double entry
...to your dead.net account, it already knows that information and just lets you pick the date and venue.
Thanks. Should log in more often.
If you are signed in the site has all of that other information in which case you only enter the date and venue prior to submitting your entry.
It seems to me that this is another tricky one. I understand the year and all shows which I think had the combo but don't get any real matches. Maybe it's in the mix?
No tricks (after the Casey Jones wipeout we should hope not!). Pretty straightforward - the exuberant shout near the beginning is all you need.
I was focused on that but maybe I am missing something. It seems to me the relisten.net doesn't have this one. The only one I found with the trade mark opening has much more with Pig and a flute throughout. Will hunt more later.
. . . tricky for others.
Yeah I heard that flute, too. That was Charles Lloyd sitting in on that one—pretty cool.
The shout made it easy once I found it, but finding the show was tricky at first. Had to stretch beyond the usual places I search. So keep sniffing around and you should bump into it.
Good thing too. I have a busy day ahead.
Charles Lloyd’s Forest Flower is one of my favorite jazz albums of all time. Definitely worth checking out.
to the pre-song voices, someone's telling Bobby to check his mike, so i think that's the reason for his hoot.
Jerry gives us a guttural "uhn!" later in the song. he also sounds really happy at the beginning lyrics.
what a great combo. i love that we're getting this in spite of the bit of flutter beginning of DTR.
thanks again to all.
is what clinched it for me - I found a perfect match :)
Didn't get it but made a guess just by matching the timing for each tune. Frustrating … checked all that matched but couldn't find that China Cat opening in all of the versions for the year in question. Also checked all combos with Doin That Rage that I could find … what tool am I missing today? No Dead base here …….
I couldn't find it with my usual resources so made a guess that I knew was wrong. Oh well. I could tell it was a more mature China Cat compared to earlier versions, and I knew that Doin That Rag was not played beyond September 1969. Nonetheless, I couldn't find either song listed for this particular date. This combo we got was much better than any of the others that I found.
In the Song Search boxes, type in one or two songs , click Start Search - it'll show you the setlist from every show with those songs - you just need to find the correct combination (there were only 4 shows to choose from with China Cat > Doin' That Rag)
Thanks, did not know I could do that! It worked for this morning!
With deadlists.com one can put up to three songs into the search engine. Just don't forget to add "and" for it to search shows that contain both OR all three songs.
Indeed, it should have been easy peasy as someone said. Now I can't believe I missed it. Starting late today after about 16 hours of power outages in the Chicago area.
A couple things led me to this one. Synchs nice with ReListen! Nice grungy sound from 49 years ago (less than a year before my first show).
