Ah, an easy find as there's only one possibility.
But tread lightly. . .there's some tricky-schmickiness with the venue name.

don't understand why they were still mixing and matching at this point!

all this music i'm gonna need 4 cd's. yeah i said cd's. so?
again with the venue but you gotta go with what's already been written? no?
i did.
only four to go, how can this be?

What's in a name? There are so many. I think I am going with the one on the disc.

unless i am wrong....again...lol
this one was a walk in the park to find and verbal cues made it easy to sync. i learned after several mistakes that the only way to be sure is to sync them up and double check. happy last week....very interesting 30 days this year. so much fun. thanks dave

How do you enter an album name if you have to choose from a list of venues and dates? Why so little from the mid '80s to 1990 when (in my opinion) they were at their best?

They aren’t looking for an album name, just city, venue, and date. That they said these are “outtakes” from an album is the hint. Combined with the way it sounds and audible personnel on the track, it should significantly narrow it down for you.

Since there are two locations listed in Archives, but one in Deadbase ...does the answer come down to a coin toss? The one on Dicks Picks should be a safe bet, but these songs aren't included in that release and as we've seen, locations shown on tickets and posters are wrong here. As I've posted before...there should be some 'official' source. When there are two versions for the same location eg. RFK Stadium or Robert F Kennedy Stadium, or all the iterations of Oakland Coliseum and Arena, it just seems to become a point of luck rather than an accurate search. Why not clean up your list of show choices??? Shouldn't be that hard to do

@deded54 - I think it comes down to the fact that we take this game more seriously than dead.net. In years past I would spend hours investigating different names for venues only to still get it wrong with no explanation as to how they came up with the "correct" answer. Now I just pick one and move on with life. It's more fun that way.

What could possiblaey go wrong?

Surely these tunes aren't outtakes, just songs that weren't used for the initial release ?

Well, the definition of an outtake is something that was edited out for an initial release. In this case, it’s an outtake.

My two cents (or do I mean three cents or the One-Cent Auditorium?): I just go with the real name of the actual venue where the show was in fact played, regardless of all the published mistakes. Now, that’s meant on occasion that 30DOTD has said I’m wrong, but I’d rather be right than right.

As for whether the Dead merchandising mavens owe us a cleaned-up, fly-specked list of venues or whether some poor unpaid drone should police the Internet to fix the erroneous show listings, well, I couldn’t care less. It’s not like we’re talking about how the NFL defines a “catch” or anything equally serious, right? Let it fly...have fun...buy your own calendar! Peace, brothers and sisters!

I’m kind of stuck here - Dick’s Picks has one name for this location while Dead.Net archive has another and either one is available to choose.

Read thru the comments. It's a lovely discussion about venues . . . and philosophies of life. And then cast your fate to the wind. ;)

With a side of nice, fresh Phil bass riffs and Donna harmony on the side? With some sweet keys for dessert.

I'll have seconds! Thanks 30DOD!

This very site contains images of the poster for this show as well as a program that was distributed at the show, both of which (unsurprisingly) definitively name the venue, and that venue appears in the drop-down list here. So, there really is no debate or discussion about the correct answer. Having said that, I cannot possibly account for what 30DOTD will say tomorrow!

Just like the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is the same place as the Oakland Coliseum Arena these two possible venues are the same place (there are actually other names for it as well). I also just found the official program which confirms one name but contradicts the official listing on the band site. I agree with ARM in that who knows what the "official" answer will be.

I know the venue and city but am unsure about the date. With 2 very active young boys to take care of I was looking for the easy answer-enter the name of the album. No big deal, even if I entered the correct answer my chances of winning are slim. If I wanted a wall calendar that badly I'd just buy one but I have a problem about buying anything from Gouge the Deadheads Merchandising but music. Peace and love and hugs and kisses to all. I still want more late '80s stuff.

While we're airing our grievances...I've always been more interested in the search than anything else. Finding the right show just scratches that November itch that I seem to get every year. And searching includes listening to multiple versions (OK, sometimes just the first minute or two) of the song to get it just exactly right. These combo selections this year have taken some the fun out of the search because now I'm looking for the correct series of songs more than tuning my ears to the pitch of the guitars and vocals or to the cadence of the rhythm section.

I feel better now. Of course, I am ever grateful for the bountiful harvest of FREE downloads and for the connection to all you fellow Deadhead sleuthers out there!

As this November was my first round of hunts, I was glad for the clues to knock it down to the right show, but I'm starting to enjoy the subtlety of the chase. This one was all about listening for the right leads; and that's getting more and more fun as it goes. I like it, but I can understand the frustrations of some of the hardcores who can just listen and knock it down to an era or even a year. To me this is a great time to enjoy. Thanks Dave!

Hey smallz, I hear ya on that, but... man, listen to that bass - could only be one era, right?
What fun, a grate addition to the prior release! Thanks all around.

Though it may be published as something else on a release- I'm old-school and go with the venue listed in Deadbase. Cause venues change names over time, Deadbase lists them as they were.

I hope I finally win & see my name after this find. When I first got into the Dead just three years ago, I remember the cover of this live album kinda jumped out at me. Everything was all new to me & this particular cover featured one of the most legendary aspects of the Dead's history.

I finally picked a venue based on the program and the CD and Setlists and Re-listen and any number of other references. But the "official" answer will probably be the other choice.

Venue … I trust that Dead.net will use the name listed on their own site. Throwing my answer to the fate of the winds … and may the four winds will blow it safely home!

In this case they used it both ways in different places on dead.net. They could pick what is considered the official name of the venue, or the one that's on the CD and the program. In the past they have often picked the opposite name from the one they use on the site as the official name. I think regardless of which I picked it would be the other one. The greatest irony, as usual, is that we're talking about the same place!

I'd have no one but myself to blame if I didn't get this one right tonight. It could be an illusion but I might as well try my guess. Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of DeadBases if you look at it right. I can't believe there is only 4 more Days of playing in the Heart of Gold Band.... Good Luck to all!

...regardless of the exact name of the venue. When the site is displaying multiple similar names of a venue in the drop down list then it can often be because that very venue has multiple names according to the public, history, programs, books etc. The site wants to give us multiple choices not necessarily to confuse us or trick us. They are doing it to help us and give us all the ammo needed to guess an answer depending on our search methods.

If a person happens to win with an answer that displays what some may consider a "correct" or "incorrect" venue name it does not matter. The site just happened to pick that person because they guessed the correct date and one of the possible SIMILAR venue names. Another person would have had just as much of a chance of winning with the alternate name of the venue. There are thousands of people playing.

Have fun! Almost over... sigh.

    venue quest...ion

dougbrine...so you're saying any venue works if it's close or any variant to the date? and how do you know this?
