This same FOTD from 06.07.70 was issued in the 2011 30 Days of the Dead.

Muchas gracias por todo for these excellent GD tracks, each and every year since 2010...!
had so much fun chasing down this one-side tracked into the delicious internet archive shows from this year (Yes I made a donation and you should too!!!) started by pulling out my Deadbase and looking for all acoustic versions of FOTD. Along the way to finding this I listened to some very early FOTD's with different lyrics, a nice show from Cincinnati in early April, a really different and interesting Cowboy song (that is the name) from a legendary SF venue less than a week later, a slow acoustic version of I know you rider from a top US college in early May, and than found a new (to me) (2013 is when it first appeared) audience tape from the start of this same run of shows that was so good I had to download. This illustrates the fun of 30 days-which is in the journey as much as the destination! Thanks to this band and family again for another wonderful year
Speaking of religion - this song's set follows the familiar journey that starts by consorting with the devil, then getting in touch with Jesus, and ultimately being carried home by a saving band of heavenly angels!
It was, after all, a Sunday show.
take us on that journey.
This is my first year participating in 30 Days of Dead, and it's been loads of fun. Thanks for the great music, Dave! Looking forward to tomorrow's pick.
Where does the time go? So we are coming to the end of another wonderful month of music. Looking forward to a real show stopper tomorrow to wrap it up. My eight year compilation is currently at 241 songs and 1.8 days! Thanks again to Dave and the entire Grateful Dead family for all the years of joy and music.
I think this year has been my favorite so far. If this is an indication of potential releases forthcoming, looks awesome.
My wishlist from these, through today, 11/29/2017....
6/23/90 - My favorite featured choice from this year.
10/22/89 - Great tour and recorded in multi-track.
3/31/89 - Awesome show from an awesome spring tour.
6/10/73 - Both, Dead and Allman sets please.
3/21/92 - A show I attended. A nice 2 show run.
10/20/84 - Need more '84 releases.
6/23/93 - Terrapin > jam > Drumz > Dark Star. Probably the best sequence of the entire year, if not last 3 years of their career.
Of course, there a lot of nice stuff from the '60' and '70's featured as well, plus one more day of 30 Days 2017.
Thanks Dave! One more day and another grate 30 Days in the books...seems to make November go by pretty quick I must say. Can't wait to hear the finale...hoping for some mid 60's jam. Have a killer X-Mas.
The joke clue got it for me and of course searching the archive for acoustic shows like a mad man. Thanks again Dave and how about a dirty, bluesy New Speedway Boogie to end the month!?
Thank you for a great 29 days of awesome music this is why we are grateful for November 30 days of Dead music. Thank you again Merry Christmas Happy New Year Happy Holidays Happy Hanukkah
I am just going to enjoy this offering today. Too many to sift through to find
Another great year of 30 days . And I won one of the days this year which was icing
I am looking forward to some nice releases this year I took advantage of early bird subscription
My Dog Has No Nose!
No Nose? How Does He Smell?
Nothing awful about this 30 days reprise.
Pig Fans are in for a treat, 1/2 way through the second set, if you listen to this one in its entirety. "Soulful" is how one reviewer put it. I will agree.
It's been a grate year. Looking forward to tomorrow's finale. Maybe even an encore!
Thank you Dave L. and everyone at Dead.net for another outstanding 30 days. Looking forward to tomorrow's offering so I can work up my annual 30+ song fantasy show from each day. Be well everyone!
This is the year to feature "Crazy Fingers" on the 30th (my birthday:))
Let's have it, a real nice, dreamy, hazy, lazy, summer afternoon CF!
Just as Bob is starting to wonder which song is next in their set,
Jer begins playing the song's intro. & Bob says "Oh Yeah."
Sometimes listening to the end of the previous track is needed to pick-up the stage banter.
I figured the correct coast because the audience sounds enthusiastic and laid-back.
All the acoustic sets from this classic year are personal favorites of mine.
Reminds me how happy I was to see the band play classic acoustic sets 10 years later.
If I hadn't read this I would have packed it in :-) As it was I still went through a lot of shows I haven't listened to in way too long before I found the right one. Unmistakable.
I just got back from Reno, and it was so nice to see my dog again.
I can go from Holy Harmonizations one day to gettin' friendly with the "Devil" the next! And I'm still invited back the next day!
As far as hints go: For those of you who didn't get Jerry's not so subtle memo during the song.....He clearly needs some SLEEP! I mean one look at those setlists and it's no wonder that he's sleep deprived.
That's one hardworking band! And I thank the Gods we have them forever.
Mic placement and/or acoustic pickup bumps & patter at the beginning are a great clue (but you have to really look for them if a track starts out cold on the other sites). And the overall time. And how the other instruments join in. And finally how the ending vocal, cheer & "thank you" sound.
Really enjoyed 30 dotd. Got my daughter involved too. My vote for funniest post was the So Many Roads, "Blackboards singing on bluebird hill." I heard that one too and cracked up. Hoping for a fat juicy 72-73 Dark Star to end the month.
Would love a release of a box set of this entire year's shows along with a box of the entire previous year's! Oh, who am I kidding? Do a box set of the year before that as well. In the interim, I am grateful that so many shows from this era are on the Archive, and that many are high quality recordings.
Just a warning that not all hints are correct.
Hey if it's my hint that you think's wrong, PM me and let's confer. If I've got the wrong show, I'll edit my post to remove confusion. I mean, I think I got it right, but I don't want to send folks down the wrong path by mistake.
You are right about there being a Cumberland Blues later on in the set. I don't see any glaring errors in the hints in comments today.
Once you've found this one, take a listen to the Cumberland from the same set. Despite a cut in Bear's tape, it's a very fine version.
amazing cumberland (tho cut) and amazing show!
Once again you outdid yourself. What a great collection of memories. I look forward to next year's offerings. Cheers.
No Candy, but who cares. Thanks, Dave!
Made my selection and glad it didn't take long to locate. Heading off to catch Dead & Co. in Atlanta, then Southbound for the last 2 shows in FL next week. Very fortunate to be able to enjoy the 30 DOD and transition into December 'this a way'.'til tomorrow....
what I was looking for, but I found this: Dark Star>St. Stephen>NFA>Darkness Jam>China Jam>NFA. Just go find that and you'll forget too
I listened to the Dark Star from 9/19/70 as the sun was undergoing total eclipse this past August. I was in Salem Oregon for the event. Definitely one of the highlights of my not so short life. The musical accompaniment made it that much more special.
Anyone who has a chance to see a total eclipse of the sun should go out of their way to do so, you won't regret it. Listen to your favorite Dark Star, I won't presume to tell you which that should be. 9/19/70 worked for me, but I can see 11/2/69 as a worthy alternative.
Looks like the setlist from my favorite show!
Interesting interview with Vince Welnick about bring back "Here Comes Sunshine"
You have a reputation for being the catalyst for bringing back some of these older tunes like "Here Comes Sunshine."
I had a side band called the Affordables, and I used that as a way to make demo tapes to present to the band. Everybody brings them in, though - not just me. I brought in "Here Comes Sunshine," even though Jerry wrote it.
Did a request for that come in the mail?
Somebody sent me a list of tunes and when was the last time they were played, and when I heard it I thought it had a really nice Beatles-type feel to it. I did it with the Affordables when we opened for the Jerry Garcia Band on Halloween 1991. Then we got into a rehearsal mode, and I said, "Let's do that one," and Jerry said, "Do we have a copy of Wake of the Flood around?" I said, "No, but I do have the Affordables' arrangement of it, which started off a cappella. He liked that, so we started it off that way. That was like my attempt at the Beach Boys sound, I guess.
This FOTD was given to us in a past year "30 Days of Dead."
So good, it had to be given out twice!
Yes I noticed that. But noticed quite a big difference in the time length. I'll have to compare/contrast those 2 files.
Aha... somehow the past appearance of this song on 30 Days of Dead has an extra song attached in same file. At least that's the way I received it.
This one has pre-song banter...the first release did not, however it did have more included after.
Listen to this stuff at home, listen to it while walking. Great no matter where. Thank you.
but so sweet!
Been there, done that -- Who is responsible? Who do I speak to?
Love the 30 days -- Thank you for all you do.
A Legendary Year
Not a helpful hint from Dave & Co, but found it fairly swiftly nonetheless. Love this little ditty from these pranksters and jokers. There was a lot of good stage banter during these acoustic sets!
definitely lotsa killer stuff to sift through finding that one. fun to keep on listening to. and if you use setlists.net read through the user comments on this show. it becomes quite comical. really liked the second time this tune was played, worth a listen to as is that whole show.
ps- the archives have all kinds of great and valuable stuff besides the amazing dead collection. it's what the internet is meant for. (besides 30 days)
And please, everyone, remember to DONATE to Archive.org . . .
Only one left, and all I can say is What am I? Where am I? Who am I? What am I doing here? What does it all mean? Well, just listen to the music play!! Any guesses for the last one tomorrow? Yes, a Pig number would be great, but a sweet Brokedown Palace would send us all on our way in fine fashion.
