Is Soooo GOOD !!!
Fairly Easy one, I think!! Yes Thanks for the 30 Days of The Dead, for which I am grateful for each year! :)
Sad to see this Great Month coming to a close. Great Music, Fun commentary. Been a very good year me thinks............ I’ve always found it interesting how some people love the 60’s, some the 70’s (myself included), some the 80’s, some the 90’s. Some love the Pig, others are indifferent. Everyone has a different favorite Keyboardist. I’m sure there are some Donna fans out there, though I’m not included in that group ( a little screechy I’ve found). Some commented how they loved yesterday’s Scarlet/Fire, while others found it inferior. But no matter what, we all love the Dead!! It’ll be interesting to see what Dave chooses for a Finale this year.
Well thought, well stated Geododge! As you say, we Dead lovers are a widely varying bunch. However I cannot let your Donna comment go unchallenged! You don't have to like her, but to characterize her as a screecher is unfair. Yes, she does screech sometimes, but her seven-year tenure with the Dead was filled with much more than that. Had Jerry or Bob not wanted her singing on their songs, she wouldn't have been allowed in the studio or on stage. To my ears and soul, she lent many fine harmonies and very rarely ever missed a lyric. Her performances on the PNW shows, for example, bear that out. Her occasional leads (You Ain't Woman Enough, Sunrise) showed her vocal abilities further and were to me a welcome change of pace. Personally I prefer her harmonizing and vocal qualities to Brent's, rest in peace.
Nice to get an epic song for my birthday today. Such a great show too. I miss hanging out in that area of the country. A lot of cool people.
Great pick today for a birthday song! Choice selection, Mr. Lemieux.
Gonna have to go faceless the rest of the day!
Thanks Dave for the choice tunes...AND, this year, for the helpful hints! PS: Today’s proto-TASB also helps.
Jerry’s guitar playing at the end of this Hes Gone gives me the “feels”. Love He’s Gone so much. Thanks for this today and have a grate day everyone
While Bobby is explaining to everyone what it means to be two-dimensional, Jerry's response cracks me up every time I play it....
I'd like to second the sentiments of Deadheadbrewer from yesterday. Archive.org is conducting their donation drive this week and I feel that all Deadheads that appreciate access to (almost) the entire Dead concert catalogue might be able to throw a small donation their way to keep the music flowing. Sometimes the songs we hear are just songs of our own.
Dave and Co. have cooked up for us today! It's got everything you want, including not only fantastic melodies and harmony, but also humor and free lessons in how to alter dimensional space. You could play this one as a continuous loop in my head for the rest of eternity and I wouldn't mind one bit! Thanks Dave!
November's almost gone for good.
Gosh, a stand-alone He's Gone that's longer than almost all versions in this era and has a very distinctive TASB rap right before--which I swear I've heard before, unless Bobby whipped out the 2-dimensional line a lot more often than I thought. And yet...I haven't landed on it yet. Back to the tapes I guess.
am stumped today...and don't see any clues...
Thanks to Charlie Miller and the other version of the tape...whew...am working so half distracted, and was mining that era per main hint... cold and rainy here in so. cal.
They main hint given is really useful. It narrows it to very short period of time when only tapers would recognize the song. If you know when this song became widely available, that should help a lot. And you have a super unique Take a Step Back to tee off on...

You could look at this from 9 to 5 and not come up with the answer to today's song but it might take you to the promised land to know that the set includes a not often played song written and recorded by another well known artist.
found one of the other shows with this cover, and was so stumped because that version of He's Gone was a tad different than today's version
I swear the song sounds 10x better when you finally figure out the date!
Hard to not pick a great show during this time.
As many of you may recall or already have, I'll offer up an Excel spreadsheet I've been using to keep track of all the 30 Days offerings back to 2010. Just send me a PM along with your email and I'll send it along.
Features of the sheet include sort function buttons (hence macros) for song, venue, concert year, and/or 30 Days year. Each song is a hyperlink to the respective setlists page. There's a tracker for how many times Dave has picked from a specific year. Also includes all the artwork for the 30 Days. All in all, pretty cool if you like things like that.
Thanks to all (Dave & Co, active commenters and hinters). One day to go!
Hi - I'd like to have a copy of your spreadsheet of all 30 DOD - thanks very much. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
I have kind of been in and out of the loop for the 30 DOD downloads over the years. I have this year's and the one from 2014, but that's all. Do you know if the other years are available for download or trade anywhere? I have lots of digital concerts on CD and my hard drive that I would be willing to trade for the DOD years I am missing. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Thanks very much, Mick. I'm really happy to have found that site.
I can not justify purchasing a calendar. Between devices, time/temp, and whatnot, the date no longer eludes me. That being the case, a calendar won would look sweet on my wall. Right next to the 2005 model I picked up at Graceland. Which has been right at least twice since I got it. So that's cool.
Is your friend here.
The site of my first show a few years later. I had to do some digging, and finding it was a little tricky, but everything's three dimensional now. Saw them there three times. As I recall, most of the shows were general admission. That might explain why everyone had to take a step back. Take us home with something epic, Dave! Have any of the other daily winners been contacted about receiving their calendar? I haven't heard a word.
Hey D-Rae, I won Day 11 and haven't heard anything at all. Not sure if this is common, this is my first win. Maybe they'll do something once it's all wrapped up?
Thanks. bengouker. I won four years ago, but it was on the 28th and they emailed me on December 1st, so I am betting they're waiting for it to be all over. How about another Eyes to close it all out!?!
Last year the notification went out about a week later and the prize arrived a few days after you responded, this year it’s all being done in one go at the end, so watch those junk filters!
Like a steam locomotive, I found this one very quickly. I was blessed by already having an audience version on my computer. This one is much cleaner with way better sound! Very bummed that we are down to our last of the 30 Days tomorrow. Wish it could be 365 Days of Dead.... Good Luck all!
Uncle Johns Band
I could swear I've heard this He's Gone very recently? Hmm, maybe I just gotta poke around, nearby...
Maybe Still a November Dark Star? One more day left! I don't think DL2 included one last year. It's High Time . . . : ^ )
This penultimate offering was a bit of a slog fest getting through so many variations, but oh so worth the long strange trip it's been. There's a local college near this venue that has quite a reputation for winning lacrosse.
I spent many summers not far from the venue before I got on the bus. I saw many classic rock bands perform during the late 60's at a place known as the summer home for the ------ ---s.
If anyone happens to be in the venue area for today's He's Gone show, you might see a Thunderbird pass by.
I'm sure many of us discovered and saved this show from a previous 30 DOD selection.
Lastly, bittersweet emotions are upon us, to be at the beginning of the end of this years final DOD, and I have again truly enjoyed this years comments and banter with all of you 'usual suspects' here on Dead.net.
Thank you all for sharing in your passion, and to Dave and Co for the grate fun again this year!
It's clear to me what year this is from. i'm no good at these theyd have to have specific dialogue for me to even guess. and it does and I still don't know it.
hey there. see comments below from ratstack and chrisr777. those are some good pointers if you're still looking. also The Heady Version sure helped me...if you know what to search for, I got it on my 2nd try.
first entry :) feels good after being stumped yesterday. been wanting to play all month but lately I've been unsurprised to find myself dreaming rather earlier than usual these nights hehe.. fairly young rider on this locomotive so it brought a smile smile smile to recognize the stage antics from this year off a creamy recording of a hot benefit concert, that a dear friend passed along to me :) never hurts to remind ourselves to take a big step back and be grateful for where we are, even when we would love to rush to the front. Thanks Fam :)
Good news. Just saw that the Unofficial 31 Days of Dead is back again this year!
Many of you know of this, but some may not. Our fellow traveler, Ed, puts this together every year after 30DoD is over. Starts Dec 1st. No contest, or search, or hunt, but he offers another month of awesome downloads & camaraderie to help us carry over from the fun of 30 DoD. Here's a link and the scoop from his post today.
“When They Go High, We Go Higher”
“Annnnnnnnd, we’re back. Hello, friends! As the “Official 30 Days of Dead” draws to a conclusion I am getting excited to begin posting my daily selections for the Unofficial 31 Days of Dead in December as I have done in past years.
In case you are unfamiliar with the “Unofficial 31 Days of Dead” here is a description of what it's all about: . . . “
...this year is as good as it gets. The setlist for this show is ridiculous. The only bummer to 30 DOD is listening to all the amazing shows I didn't go to.
i found it.
eluded my searchings last night.
was gonna say screw it, but there it is.
sometimes ya gotta hit just one more show
This really is amazing. Highlight of every Fall. Thank you.
I was right about the year but was wrong about the month. I had September as my guess
Check this week's Taper's Section for He's Gone plus more from 10/2/72...I knew I recognized that two-dimensional banter! Pretty sneaky Dave...thanks for the all the tunes this month...see y'all next year!
What an absolutely beautiful version! '72 was a such a fine year for this song.
I so look forward to 30 days and it makes it easier to deal with this dark time of year.
Thanks to all those who make it possible and to the loveliest tribe of music lovers on the planet.
Fare thee well, see you all here next year!
