...So Many Roads!!
So many roads to ease my soul...Garcia is so poignant.
The way Bobby's guitar sounds on this...although, i know that sound can be a bit much sometimes.
To ease my soul, to tease my soul, and to heal my soul!
The big clue I was referring to in this version was that you could hear the opening chord of Promised Land at the very end of the track. Promised Land followed So Many Roads only seven times so that really helped narrow it down for me. Listened to them all (thanks archive) and discovered the one from Boston '94 had that squeal in the opening chords (thanks Bobby?).
I always thought this one would have made a perfect encore, but it was never played as one. Hindsight...
is anyone going to put up some album art for this years' collection???
Thx so much for a 4th year of tunes. Luv it!
Great to hear Jerry signing strong!
Argh - I missed yesterday's - anyone hosting the downloads????
Found it - just had to look at the RED box at the top of the page :-)
I'm confused about the official hints. Maybe I'm just being obtuse here (really), but the hints seem just seem to be for the name of the song, which we already have. Telling me that So Many Roads is a newer song that's considered alongside the greatest of the band's career isn't a hint for when and where it was played...is it?
i agree. not seeing the 'value' in the hint.
The Greatest Songs of the band's career.
This performance came from a tour where Bobby apparently decided to use one of those $50 multi-effect distortion pedals you find in Guitar Center bargain bins. They often have names like "METAL SCREAMER" or "RAZOR'S EDGE," and they sound horrible.
One of my favorite things about Bobby's sound is that crystal-clear, bright attack he got from a standard Twin Reverb or Mesa Boogie Mk1. '72 and '77 Bobby tones are what make be love the Grateful Dead. The distortion never blended well with the Dead's sound, and Bobby must have realized this as well; he went back to his signature clean tones by the first Ratdog shows and has stuck with them till this day.
yeah, Bobby's sound doesn't go very well with Jer, especially on the song that follows the So Many Roads.
but still, Jerry !
FYI, all three tracks I've downloaded are 320 kbs. Also, will links to previous downloads be?
Oops, didn't see the links.
So many shows that eased my soul. Keep up the great outputs, Dave and family. We're still listening! Celebrating today with my favs... MSG, Omni, SPAC
If you listen carefully there's a big clue in this one which will help narrow it down to a certain thing that I didn't realize was even a thing, but it was a thing and it was a thing seven times!
Find the clue and you'll solve the puzzle. Promise.
Heard this particular version a ton, it's a great one to blast in your car!
That hint is a Dead giveaway... It's gotta be the one when they played it between Way To Go Home and Corrina.
I love this song and think that 6-15-1992 is one of the best versions from the tapers, Jerry just belts this one out.
I was at this show, we had a freight train come through the Meadowlands during Terrapin/Drums.
If only I had gotten up 6 hours earlier. I could have won, lol..
So Many Roads to-ease my soul.
Wind inside & the wind outside
Tangled in the window blind
Tell me why you treat me so unkind
Down where the sun don't shine
Lonely and I call your name
No place left to go, ain't that a shame?
I remember walking through Central Park during the summer and thinking of this song. Stopped to take a picture at the Alice in Wonderland statue. An English couple asked if we could take their picture. We traded cameras and asked them where they were going next. They responded, San Francisco. Need less to say, So Many Roads was playing in my head the rest of that walk.
Last year when they played this I was clueless. Kept on searching 66' & and other early years. I'm pretty sure I have the April Minglewood released on Ladies n Gentlemen. When I heard it on day 2 I was certain it was another 71' show. Seems odd they would play this 2 years in a row. For Dave's 9 preview the Row Jimmy on 5-14-74 was played on 2012 30 days. I counted recently and almost every official release has had a song featured in 30 days. So hopefully the returned shows from 69-71 will have some clarity in the next few weeks. From 70' could be a Feb. show or 5-1-70 acoustic electric to follow up the 4-18-70 acoustic release. Would be a great compliment to that acoustic only show.
Also noticed the Skull n Roses t-shirt in dead.net store is probably connected to the 74' DP9 show. As is the Halloween 80' tee for DP8 release.
They gave us a lay-up today. This version is long regarded as one of the 2 or 3 best versions out there. If you are a fan of this song, I think it'll be an easy find for everyone.
Never cared much for So Many Roads...until I heard this one. I don't care if I never figure out the date.
OK, I'm going out on a limb here...
Dave thinks that this is a great show and it will be released on Dave's Picks in 2014.
1) Sugar Magnolia from this show was included in 30 Days on November 19, 2010.
2) This exact song was also included in 30 Days on November 21, 2012.
3) Phil & Friends played at the Capital Theater in Port Chester, NY yesterday which served as a reminder about great Port Chester GD shows.
4) They are not paying any attention to what they included in 30 Days during the past 3 years. So this year, it is really 29 Days of Dead plus, at least, one repeat.
.....To Ease My SOUL!!! :D
.....nice hint below! Thanks!
So Many Roads to Ease (tease) my soul… Man do I miss Jerry. Thanks so much for the 30 Days of Dead. Beautiful version!!
How many winners per day? I only ask because I submitted the correct answer as well.
I think they draw one name daily from all the correct guesses submitted - that's what they did last year anyway. They certainly can't give prizes to everyone who submits the right answer - there have to be hundreds of them a day!
I LOVE YOU
while searching along this am, i glanced at Flavaham's post and realized... Dough! :o
A very generous comment/hint for any of the youngsters or newbies as may be, and perhaps a bit too kind for us old and in the ways.
BTW, Minglewood was a quick find for me, but i carelessly selected passaic on the dropdown.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for bringing the 30 DOD back. I look forward to it and enjoy it very much. When you're choosing the date and place for today's song, why is there a year choice up to 1998? Is there some weird Jerry Elvis thing going on that I'm not aware of?
Wow - One of my all time favourite songs and this version is absolutely transcendent. Thank You, Dead.Net!!!
I can not believe that 30 days is here again...wtf?! So Many Roads is just what I needed to slow time down a tad, thanks Jerry. Good luck everybody) meep meep
Capitol Theater again? What about Gainesville!
This 2/24/71 Minglewood was included in last year's 30 Days.
It's a duplicate of last year's Minglewood version dead.net gave away. Same one. I do appreciate getting these, (love em, thank you), but I have to ask, with the wealth of what you have to choose from, why ? Nevermind, I'll just say Thanks & move on.
I hear you man. I feel kind of small to sound like I'm complaining when it is all free stuff, but it's kind of hard to understand why they would repeat one.
Took me a while though. Luckily it's daylight savings. I've got a bit of a green Thumb and want to play in the Garden in the morning...I Promised my girlfriend I would. =D
Are they giving away daily prizes or just the one big prize this year?
can't tell. but i miss the old daily prizes, like they were cleaning out the garage. i guess if you win you'll know. although the real prize is spending time listening to shows during the search and getting off track and then realizing you've been doing this for hours when it should have only taken 30 minutes if you hadn't found that terrapin that took you away for 15 minutes from the task at hand and then that help>slip>franklin's and then that stella blue and then realizing its 3 am and your wife getting po'd that you stayed up all night with the headphones on all month long. I NEED MORE SHOWS! at least tonight was daylight savings- extra hour suckers!
ease my soul indeed, 30 days rules!
Thanks for the laugh Hornsby - always appreciated after an unscheduled 5:45 AM wakeup on a Sunday morning.
Ah, So Many Roads - yet another Hunter song that could be the title of a Great American Novel.
