30 Days of Dead November 30
------ TURN OFF FUTURE & FORM -----
It's with deep appreciation and gratitude for you, the fans, that we'll be giving away an MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win our Grand Prize - a prize pack featuring our 2014 releases, merch, and more.
I got 192kbps for 1, 13, & 26-30; the rest 320kbps. But, I noticed that everything came in at 698.8MB which barely fits on a 700MB disc, maybe that's why some are lower quality?
I have a 192 for the 13th Loose Lucy as well as everything from the 26th on. I downloaded the complete to see if it had different bit rates but the complete is entirely 192.
Some that you recognize, some that you've hardly even heard of...
I was very familiar with the show preceding this Bird Song, having submitted an uncirculating audience source myself - it's a fun listen, the crowd is way into it, clapping along and having a grand time ;)
Thanks to all for 30 more nuggets enjoy - thanks to the hint-givers that made the challenge less daunting, and thus even more fun ;)
See y'all back here again next year (~);}
Thanks once again for this. It is quite generous of you! :-)
"thankfulness to the band and all the fellas" !!!!
it's impossible to put into words what this yearly ritual has given us, all the warm fuzziness of our community as well as the powerful joy of the music. (as I've noted before, this is one of the rare places on the 'net where we don't have to put up with trolls and spam and flame wars. let's keep that up!)
even though we all miss Jerry so much, we'll always have his soul in the songs to keep us going.
thanks again to all of you for the discussions and hints, and of course to the band, and especially Dave for gifting us these tunes.
wishing you all a very Jerry Solstice and all the best in the New Year.
Many thanks all around to those keeping this bus rolling along. Great game, wonderful songs with all the memories that cascade about when I listen. Peace ya'll!
First -- thanks for the great tunes this November. My downloads all seem to have dropouts -- anyone else have this issue? I know I must be doing something dumb, but nearly all of the 30 D/Ls had a flutter or two.
not sure what happened to your downloads but mine have been fine
My suspicion is that my connection to my iTunes server is via WiFi....the original files are OK...I have a long road ahead to fix not only these wonderful songs, but some other live events as well.
A big Thanks to everyone who put together these fine shows for the 30 days of November!
Thanks to all the folks involved in doing this, I really enjoy it and at this point it's kinda like a tradition. Please keep it going.
Also thanks to all the folks who play the game and post, I've enjoyed the running commentary all month, recollections from shows, and polite agree-to-disagreements. Really a nice community.
This birdsong is from a show I really enjoy, hope this means it's on the radar for release.
.....THANK YOU! for a real good time.
Enjoy the Holidays everyone....and Have a Jerry Christmas!!!
Thanks DL and Dead.net. Great job on the selections.
Thanks for the clue though I was almost there. I knew the year from the sound of Bob's guitar but I was going down paine st. to lonely avenue. Thanks for setting me straight.
Thanks for the great downloads this year. I had a lot of fun checking out many shows to come up with my answers. Some were rather easy and others were a bit challenging, like the Cream Puff War and Alligator>Caution (and I did get them right!).
It was a little bit depressing when I made my selection this morning knowing that this was the last one for this year. Already looking forward to next years 30 Days of Dead.
Thanks again!! Hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2014!
Holidays...let alone any day with time to Stop And Listen!....are so much better when they include 30 days of ne'er before heard crystalline perfect Grateful Dead. Thanks for an awesome month and many hours to come. Right back at ya with peace, love and music all year long! Rock Chalk ;-)
Listened to about 50 versions of Bird Song and the closest I came is to finding it is one from a show that might belong on the silver screen. Am I on the right track or perhaps a kind soul can offer me a hint? Thanks!
....but it would probably be too Dorky! ;-)
In fact, there is a song by someone else about the Boulevard this location is located. Weird.
This 30 days of November has been a great show. Thank you again.
Thank you for this gift, and thanks for the fun, everyone!
love the unhurried air of this Bird Song to close the month
- Thanks, David, and to the musicians, and all there at dead.net, Rhino, the community -
Thank you for another great November.
looks like rain... no actually looks like they took out the number descriptor in the heading. it now just says they are giving away MP3 down loads every day. no mention of 192 or 320. it all sounds good to me tho, so no problems here! enjoy ur leftovers!!!
What else can one say. Thank you again for another wonderful November. Until next November, peace to all. There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.
. . . For A Real Good Time. . ."
Wonderful month of tunes from Dead.net!!!
I bet Jerry is really smiling down on us now!
First, sad that this wonderful November treat and gift from Dead.net is over for now. Thank you David and all the usual suspects!
Second, happy as its my wife's birthday.
Third, happy as its the official end of hurricane season!!
Everyone's comments below say it so well.
Until we meet again...... (~);-}
Thanks for a fun month of November. This version of Bird Song is really nice, perhaps sang a week after my first show? Love those tinkling keys.
Thanks Deadnet For A Real Good Time .
It was great! I love 30 Days. Thanks for all of the fantastic music.
I see from the comments and my own experience that days 21-30 are at 192 instead of 320. Not complaining though as they were free! My issue is that try as I might, I can’t get iTunes to combine on one album. It insists on keeping them separate. All artist, and album detail is the same. I even tried deleting everything and started the download process from scratch, still without success; does anyone have a fix for this?
Was able to get the 30 days into one album. Appreciate the time you took to reply!
I was having some minor issues in iTunes too. What seemed to help was UN-checking the box that said "part of a compilation". Also remember to manually change the track numbers because some of the tracks came with random track numbers assigned to them. I have also renamed the album "Thirty Days of Dead 2013". And the "Artist" should be "Grateful Dead" and the "Album Artist" should be left blank. This is what worked for me after a lot of trial and error. Good luck!
Some of the downloads were already tagged as "Part of a Compilation". Try unchecking the compilation box for all the tracks.
Go to Get Info
Go to Album Name
Change the name of the album to something completely different like 30 Dead Days 2013
I also turned off compilation but that's an individual songs thing.
i put all song & venue info in the TITLE line. Grateful Dead as the 'contributing artist' and 'album artist'. album is '30 Days of Dead 2013' and the # as 1, 2 3 , etc. worked for me the 3 years prior. biggest problem was not having all the song & venue info in the TITLE field. good luck!
I had the same problem. I finally noticed the "part of a compilation" box was checked. If you go to file while on iTunes, click on get info. Then click on info. If the part of a compilation box is checked, uncheck it. You can also add track number info here and it will help keep them in order, ie track 1 of 30, 2 of 30 and so on. Hope this helps you out. I went through the same thing for an afternoon and couldn't figure out.
Another great 30 days ...Thank you all! I loved the Other one and Sugaree the best ...the Caution was pretty sweet too. Every year I get to appreciate 80's Dead a little more, I feel we are all connected to our own Dead timeline mine being the 7o's run but it's all so good, ad for that I am Grateful! See ya all next year
...Just like to say Thanks to Dave and everyone involved for the tunes! REMEMBER PEOPLE: Look at these shows, some of these are next year's releases! I have a feeling you 80's people will be very happy in the next 2 years! I don't care what they release, I love it all! IMO, nobody should complain about anything because as Anna (love the name, keep on rockin') just said no band is even coming close to what we are blessed with! Non dead heads are always saying to me:"What do you mean the Dead are still releasing shows"!! "Thats right I reply and they're doing a Damn awesome job of it also"! The music, the packaging, ITS ALL GOOD!! Anyway, take care folks and "Happy Dave's 8 Day" and get ready for another awesome year of Great music! It is a great time to be a Dead-Head!! By the way Dave, you can start with 3/22/72! Later Folks!!
This has to be the best contest ever if you are a deadhead. There is a lot of amazing cooperation between well-meaning heads who give out clever hints that don't give the store away for us more challenged with less memory storage.
As many have said, it's mostly about listening to a lot of great nusic and finding new shows you hadn't thought of listening to or even knew existed but had to explore because DL slapped that particular card on the table. There is only one prize to be given away so we're not putting in the time for the schwag.
So thanks to DL and dead.net for another year (the first one I've really participated in to a small degree) and finding yet another creative way to give away some music as well as market it.
No other band will do this!
Thanks for another 30 Days of Dead. I enjoyed every past day listening to each jam. What a wonderful thing. The Dead will always be the best and this is another reason why I love this band. Keep on Truckin!
And what a treat to end the month with my favorite song (wait, did I say that already) at a venue in my old stomping grounds. Weird!
Many Thanks to Jerry, Bob, Phil, Bill, Mickey, Pigpen, Tom, Keith, Donna, Brent, Bruce, Vince, Hunter, Barlow, Dave L, Mary and all of you at dead.net
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile!
I love the contest and look forward to participating again next year. I hope the new year is a great for everyone at dead.net, rhino, and our whole deadhead community.
