30 Days of Dead November 30
------ TURN OFF FUTURE & FORM -----
It's with deep appreciation and gratitude for you, the fans, that we'll be giving away an MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win our Grand Prize - a prize pack featuring our 2014 releases, merch, and more.
Feels like Pittsburgh, 1985, the last stop of the tour...for now. Had my best conversation with Candace Brightman that day, and remember Jerry flubbin' the lyrics to Brokedown Palace, "Sounded good, didn't it?". Oh how I love the humanity of these imperfect but perfectly placed combination of musicians/roadies/sound and light techs/truck drivers, etc., appreciate the where-with-all to continue through the years, to seek the right way to do things, to strive, to share, to love. A musical science project/experiment from the 1960's that continues to this day, the flames fanned by all of you who partake in this culture, each one of you being a part of this entity, each one of you having a part to play in this family. I tip my hat to y'all, for you are the reason the Music Never Stops. See you in 11 months, may your journeys be filled with light, heart, music, and dance.
...for a most pleasant month of music.
Thank you, dead.net, for all the wonderful free music! I've been doing this for four years now, and have always enjoyed your selections. This year has certainly been no different. Your generosity is amazing, once again, thank you!
If you hear that same sweet song again, will you know why?
Anyone who sings a tune so sweet is passing by
Laugh in the sunshine
Sing, cry in the dark
Fly through the night
Cheers to all, its been fun,, from New York to San Francisco, so many roads to ease my soul, so many roads to tease my soul
Wow, I'm thankful for these songs and all, but for so many of these final tracks to not be 320 kbps is pretty lame.
Some of us care about sound quality. Why advertise that all tracks will be 320 if there is no intention to follow through?
One of my favorite songs! What a joy to wander through a couple of the early years when this was played, listening to it stretch out longer and longer.
It appears in one of my favorite shows, too: 6/22/73 at the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver (no, not today's version). Listen after the very end of that Bird Song. You will hear a voice in the crowd capture something of the ineffable beauty of this music in one phrase: "Take your time!"
Wasn't Hunter saying the same thing in Row Jimmy? "Rock your baby to and fro/not too fast and not to slow...."
Yes, by all means, take your time.
In the last four years, this is the best 11/30 pick for 30 days yet. Every year I think to myself, "this will be the year for a 11/30 'Crazy Fingers.'" No dice yet, but this is a nice alternative.
So, four years and still not one "Crazy Fingers" (please correct me if I am wrong, and point me to the date and year). I will hold out hope for next year. Thanks for another great year!
This is in my top 5 fav early Bird Songs....my girl said she likes the faster versions better, but I find those faster ones a bit dorky..... :-) (~);-}
Thank You Dave...for a real good time! See ya next year friends!!
P.S. Hey Dave howzabout a 12 days of Christmas bonus....I gots 12 more picks in me!! haahaha
Thirty days, thirty Grateful Dead gems...now I'll take a couple of days to break this down into CDs, and enjoy them through the nasty winter months, bringing a little warmth and light into cold and cloudy days.
Thanks for another year of 30 Days of Dead!
Thanks for another great 30 Days, Dave! And for all that you do!
What a lovely way to end the month. Thanks Dave!!!
Many thanks to all involved in this project. I've had the pleasure to participate in this for the past 3 years and it is now a November tradition that I hold in great anticipation and appreciate with great joy. Further, it is a gift that keeps on giving.
The Grateful Dead and GD family have given me far more than I could ever return and for that I am thankful.
... 30 days of great music served by mister dave daily ... all the great comments posted here from happy grateful people. the last three novembers have elevated november from the doldrums for me forever. thank you Dave and friends, thank you.
Last one already??
November just flew on by...
but we sure got a lot of sweet songs!!
Appreciate all of it. Thanks!
last entry entered. guess thats a wrap. that month went by fast. thanks for helping transition into the dark wet NW winter with a nice block of sunshine. just like a three show run seems like it just started and now left standing going what just happened? guess it's time to pack up the gear and clear the lot. thanks for the good times everyone and the killer tape to listen to on the long ride home. until we roll back in again next year to do it all over again- PEACE, green grass and high times to all.
Thank you for yet another year of wonderful goodies.
this is why 30 days rocks, stumbled across one of my favorite tapes i had over 20+ years ago that my old friend Hugs and i would sit around getting high and listen too all the time. All my bootlegs were stolen out of my bus back in 90. Had forgotten all about this one, and its a classic, suprised it has never been released. 4/17/71 Prime Pig. Hugs wasn't much of a head but man did he love to hear Pig rap this good lovin. Brought up a lot of good memories of those younger days. Anyway should probably get back to looking for bird song.
SOLD the Brooklyn Bridge.
Thank You- One of my Favorite Songs from one of my Favorite Years!!
What a month it's been!
was the artwork (your tag) from 2010, was that the "official" cover art? was going through my files and have that and some other stuff someone had made, anyway, you know, someday i'll actually burn these cd's and print out covers. just too much good music and too little time. anyway just wondering and stay safe.
Nah- Just love the image.
Have enjoyed your input through the month- hopes to one of us being the BIG WINNER, though that's not really what it is all about. For the next 11 monthes I will be wandering aimlessly through the Archive, with nothing better than the excellent suggestions others have made. Happy Holidays, and see you next year!
it is a tres sweet image. would make a cool poster. i have all those (i think someone made them for 2011 alternate cover art) but couldn't remember. my files could be a little better organized. don't seem to have any cover art for 2010, so was wondering. maybe they didn't think of that for that year. but it's all good.
happy journeys and safe travels to you brother. 11/2014 or bust
2010 & 11 have good Artwork- Not 2012 (Will see if more comes out for this year---
Next year- same time & place!
