Expanded & remastered (HDCD) version of the band's 1969 album, packed with 4 bonus rarities. Aoxomoxoa is one the better Dead studio albums. Imagine the California folk-rock scene if you will...add to it a taste of psychedelia and a dash of experimentation and you get this wonderfully crafted Grateful Dead album. There is no doubt the Dead were at their finest when live, but this studio album shows what the band is capable of when they really sit down and work. The problem with many of the D

Phil Lesh at Summerfest on the 4th of July July 05, 2008 By: Joe Heuer Category: Rock & Roll Quotes, Rock & Roll Shows Last night at the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard, royalty was in the house. Phil Lesh, whose bass guitar drove The Grateful Dead, brought his Phil and Friends tour to our fair city for a night of musical magic. As I mentioned yesterday, Phil was the centerpiece around which I built my 11-day Summerfest calendar. Gratefully, next month is the 30th anniversary o

Please keep a good thought for Alex Allan, the keeper of the Grateful Dead Lyric and Song Finder site and quite possibly the winner of the “Deadhead with the most interesting day job” derby: Top spy seriously ill in hospital Britain’s top spy, Alex Allan, the chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, is unconscious and seriously ill in hospital. The 57-year-old collapsed at his home earlier this week. Government sources say that there is no sign of foul play. BBC security correspondent

1998 String Cheese Incident performs “Land’s End” live on Nov. 21st, 1998 at (the now gone) Liberty Lunch in Austin, TX. This was the opening song for the second night of a two-night run. First set opened with ‘Land’s End’ and the second set ended with a “Little Hands” segueing into a “Land’s End” reprise. What a great Saturday night - The wheel made a complete rotation. Set 1: Land’s End, Late in the Evening, 100 Year Flood - Jam - Resume Man, Remington Ride, Miss Brown’s Teahouse - Pirate

So, the other day, like almost a week ago now or whatever, we were at the Eve of the very first day of the 2nd half of the year. Other than on December 31, what better day to post a New Year's Eve show, right? Right? It's logical. Isn't it? Anyway, that never happened. Grateful Dead is life ... but sometimes the tunes can just seem so damn insignificant. Due to our national holiday today, the number of people visiting here on July 4th looking for a new show probably isn't/won't be as many as o

The Grateful Dead’s not so Nationionalist Anthem. A message subtly sent to all of the flag waving blind patriots out there that hide behind the colors of the flag and swear it’s all good. Better change your act….we’re all confused… From July 4, 1989. U. S. Blues

"...shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right." (G.Dead/Robert Hunter) Sitting in my living room, eating lunch, happened to glance out the window, not at the distance, but at the forgeround where 2 cactus proto-flowers have started. I have had these plants since around 1984 and they've only bloomed a handful of time, within the past few years sitting in full sun. While the stalks look ill and barely alive, today's double shoot discovery is evidence of vitality. I've mis

Britain’s top spy is seriously ill. No foul play, so little news really, except for the gem at the end… “[he] is known for running a website for fans of the band The Grateful Dead” Pardon? I’m sure there are rules about mixing LSD and the Official Secrets Act. Aren’t there? Surely?
