    re 12/1/73 UJB
I listened to the entire show recently. I thought it sounded like during PITB they were "searching for the sound", and then Jerry forces the issue during the UJB intro, and they then "get there".

Nothing has changed - the language above is a little off and the audio file is a little off. http://db.etree.org/shn/100398

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1972, 1973 and 1979.

Our first selection this week is some first set music, plus the first song of the second set, from 12/11/72 at Winterland, featuring China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider; Box Of Rain ; He's Gone ; Around And Around ; Friend Of The Devil ; Me And My Uncle.

Next is a cool jam sequence from 12/1/73 at Boston Music Hall, the middle night of a three night run, featuring Playing In The Band>Uncle John’s Band>Playing In The Band, Row Jimmy.

Lastly this week is the end of the show from 12/3/79 in Chicago, featuring Lost Sailor>Saint Of Circumstance>Wharf Rat>Truckin', Johnny B. Goode, including a rare set-closing Truckin’, similar to 11/6/77 in Binghamton.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

I only recently heard this for the first time and had (yet another) jaw agape moment with this band even after 30 years of listening to live performances obsessively. That's how they have held my attention for so long; "best ever" moments just keep coming all though not as regularly. Perhaps part of my shear amazement was at the very fact that gems like this can remain hidden for so long only to be revealed when unexpected! The transition into UJB is just so masterful and Garcia's leads are some of his finest work here. Just spectacular!
