    4.14.84 Hampton Dew
Powerhouse solo teetering on the verge of feedback - check out the little lick at 4:22 - a riff very rarely used. Also love the beginning of the outro - you can hear the crowd clapalong - always one of my favorite parts of an 80's dead show...

    Santa Fe '83/Truckin'
Just checked out the set lists for these shows after you piqued my curiosity cmd. You are right about the CR+S encore, but they played it on the first night it looks like. I guess just some dead trivia for us buffs... http://jerrygarcia.com/show/1983-09-10-santa-fe-downs-santa-fe-nm-usa/ BTW, there are some fantastically jammed Truckin's in '77 and '78. 11-2-77 and 4-21-78 are a couple of my favorites, although the one here is also a nice example...

    Phil singing
Phil actually started singing again in the fall of '83. He joined in at Weir's mike on Cold Rain & Snow for the encore in Santa Fe (9/11) and by the start of the Fall Tour he had his own mike set-up and began to sing more and more.

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1978, 1982, and 1984.

Our first stop this week is at the Philadelphia Spectrum, where we have the end of the show, featuring Truckin' > Black Peter> Sugar Magnolia, One More Saturday Night. As you likely know, Phil didn’t sing with the Grateful Dead between 1976 and 1984, although he did sing on Truckin’ at some shows during this era, and this is one of them. You can tell how much fun he’s having.

Next is the end of the second set from 4/14/82 in the upstate New York city of Glens Falls, where we have The Wheel > I Need A Miracle > Black Peter > Playing In The Band > Johnny B. Goode.

Lastly this week, from exactly two years after our previous selection, from a venue at which the Dead always seemed to play well, we have the end of the show from 4/14/84 at the Hampton Coliseum: Morning Dew> Throwing Stones > One More Saturday Night, Baby Blue.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

That's quite a stretch without hearing Phil do "Box of Rain". I wasn't fully aware of Phil not singing from 1973 into the 80's, except for random Truckin' harmony lines. According to an online resource, the last Box of Rain was performed at Watkins Glen (7/28/73) before returning in 1986.He and Donna harmonized quite well. Thanks for the Philly 5/13/78 selection: I hadn't listened to anything from this show before.
