Am so excited to find out all this info as this was my very first rock concert. I was 18 & a soul music & blues fan having seen BB King & Smokey Robinson & The Miracles & listened to the Black music stations in Baltimore. I hitchhiked with a dear friend from the Baltimore MD. area to visit a friend of ours who moved to Santa Monica & a sister in the San Joaquin Valley and check out the Bay area. I was all ways inclined to political activism so had to check out Berkeley. We slept on the UC campus behind some bushes & discovered the concert by accident latter in the day. Reading the comments I now recall so clearly the guy yelling."White Rabbit!". Being 47 years ago much of my memory of the concert are faded but not the friendly vibe of the crowd or the quality of the performance of everyone on that stage. When we got back home I was eager to go to more rock concerts & became very disappointed until I saw The Grateful Dead in Baltimore in March 1973. It soon became obvious to me after checking out the other bands just how great & different this band is. It really was a magical trip & will never forget that day! Thanks everyone involved in putting that show on. It was so far ahead of anything else going on @ that time IMHO. Lastly I was also so glad to grasp that our counter culture movement included a love & respect of working class values & music and loved NRPS too! Was not expecting to see a pedal steel guitar front & center on stage as we walked in is an example of what I am trying to say. Lastly my friend knew a fair amount about The Grateful Dead & had heard of NRPS so that was real cool & helpful and the reason we went in I am sure. Thanks Jake wherever you are!

"White Rabbit!" "Aw Reet, it's the stuff that can't be beat". First trip to the Bay Area to visit my sister.Then up to Oregon to visit my brother and his wife who were living in a tipi. Made up my mind then and there to leave the east as soon as I graduated from high school the following June. "Sometimes A Great Notion" was released to the big screen in the fall of 71.Last night I listened to 8/15/71 driving across eastern agency Navajo Rez to get back to work this morning. Was at Zia Pueblo feast day yesterday. The recording of that concert is a testament to the free spirit of those times. The Other One jam into "Uncle" into jam was so great. Then Love-light.Very fond memories indeed. Who was that kid who yelled White Rabbit and then Aw reet? "Never give a inch"Henry Stamper
