first show
I was there physically but not in spirit. I was clueless. It was Gen Adm. but I sat way up high and was sleepy. Alison Thomas came up there to get me. He said, "Man you gotta come down on the floor its a really cool scene. They are dancin' and they have some opium and pot. I blew it off. Later I heard some Dead at a party. It was the wee hours and someone but on American Beauty. The next day I found it in my sister's record collection and played it several Times.
An old rumor
Glad to be back on the long road home. Rumor has it that Jerry's guitar was stolen during this one night stand in Nashville. I don't know about that. Who the hell would you show it to?
It seemed to be a bit spacy of a show, but Bob was in his best "cowboy" attire and I always liked that look.
Odd though, waking up in your own home town after a show. Don't have to feel around for your shoes.

Great Show
Not my first Dead show, however my first Dead show was in Nashville (Twangtown). A free show in the fall of '72 at a park across from Vanderbilt. We were headed to N-ville to see family and picked up 2 hitchhikers just North of Birmingham who told us about the show. I had never heard the first note of Dead music prior to that day. With the help of some Mesciline and Jerry's pickin' Phil's bass, I've never been the same!
He's Gone........
Went to this show with my brother and another friend. we had wonderful seats on the front row of the balcony...dead center. I remember glancing down at my friend about 15 minutes into He's Gone. His feet were up on the railing and he was snoring and fast asleep. Can you imagine?? I thought the song was cracklin' with energy. Just another one of the great things about the Grateful Dead.
That's why they never came back?
I didn't get to start going to shows in Nashville until around '78 (I lived about an hour west in a little dog-ass town and was car-less and in high school) and never got to see the Dead there. They never played there again after I started going. The story I heard was something had happened at the Municipal Auditorium show and the boys said they were never coming back - don't remember exactly what that "something" was, maybe a guitar theft or just rude fans.
I can beat sleeping at a Dead show: I took a nice nap at a Black Sabbath show (Ozzies last tour).

I was 12 years old, and had listened to a few Dead albums before. But, I still knew nothing much about the band. I snuck to Nashville (110 miles) with a couple of high school guys I had been buying joints from. My parents thought I was spending the night at a friend's house. I had no idea you weren't supposed to accept a coke from a friendly, smiling stranger? A short while later Cowboy Neal pulled up, opened the doors, and I've been on the bus ever since. Knowing what I know now, this is a great show. As a rookie, I didn't realize what a great set list it was.

Those pictures are fantastic! Thanks for documenting the show! Jerry was playing the Bean...Wow! I was born less than 24 hours hence. Interesting Jerry plays the Bean, though it wasn't his instrument that was stolen. I just listened to this entire show the other day and had no idea to think Jerry wasn't playing the Wolf.
