Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll hear music from 1977, 1978 and 1989.

The New Year's Eve show on 12/31/77 is often overshadowed by 12/29/77 (understandably so; that show rocks!), but there was plenty of good music on 12/31, including this big jam of Truckin'>Jam>Wharf Rat>Drums>Not Fade Away>Around and Around; One More Saturday Night>Casey Jones. There's a cut in Not Fade Away, but it's not too bad.

We've played you some 4/22/78 music from Nashville, and this week we have the start of the second set, featuring Lazy Lightning>Supplication, It Must Have Been The Roses, Estimated Prophet>Eyes Of The World. That's a bit of a rare second set Lazy Lightning>Supplication, but a good one nonetheless.

Back to more New Year's run music, with tunes from 12/28/89 in Oakland. This time we have the entire first set, featuring two of the bigger Bob jam vehicles, Stranger and Let It Grow, both excellent versions: Let The Good Times Roll, Feel Like A Stranger, Dire Wolf, Little Red Rooster, Ramble On Rose, Queen Jane Approximately, Just A Little Light, Let It Grow.

Thanks for joining us, and be sure to come back next week.

The link for the 1989 selection this week is not there. Also, the link for the previous two Taper's Section don't work, and the link disappeared for the Taper's Section from the week of December 31-January 6. All this when viewed on an iPhone, not sure if these issues exist on other formats. Thanks for any assistance. **edit- The link for the 1989 selection is found by clicking on "Thanks for joining us, and be sure to come back next week". A little strange, but the music is there! The other glitches, however strange, still remain.

In addition to this week's snafus, many links are missing for previous week's (years) Taper's Sections...it would be swell if they were restored. As someone quoted the Pranksters in Blair's final blog "nothing lasts"...do I sound jaded or what?

...just about all of 2008, 2009, and 2010...most of those are MIA and have been for some time. There could be various others as well. Finding out what's missing would just entail taking a glance week by week. Do you think you could get those restored? My understanding is they haven't been wiped from the servers...yet...

It could be that today's post was supposed to be two pages and only one was successfully loaded. I can't even guess why the earlier January postings have disappeared from http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section. When I call those pages up the links are all working. Ditto for all posts I sampled at random back to http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section/april-2-april-8-2007. I think the problem is just today's missing portion and the prior 3 weeks postings on http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section even though http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section/january-14-january-20-2013 http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section/january-7-january-13-2013 http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section/december-31-2012-january-06… can be opened and work.

So we shouldn't trouble ourselves with the missing links from 2008, 2009, and 2010? There's a bunch of good stuff there and HUGE chunks are missing. I, for one, would love to see everything restored back to how it used to be. Of course, they're not missing from the server (thankfully or YET) but they are not 'browseable' (i.e. they cannot be viewed or recalled directly from the menu or listings on dead.net).

I take your point: there are huge gaps in the Taper's Section archive which I didn't realize were there on a quick first look. If the missing offerings are on the server and can be accessed by typing the url into your address bar it should be easily repairable. But I tried clicking on January 18, 2010 - January 24, 2010 (archive page 4) and got that offering, but the url in the address bar is http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section/march-8-march-14-2010. I won't bother to check any more--the files on the server must be corrupted. I hope they have adequate backup and can fix their problems. Thanks for noticing.

Are the selections from tapers really there? DL got yelled at sometime ago because they were downloadable. Those are are probably gone (or at least download-blocked - if that is possible, It seems to me that Rhino has gone to a much more commercial model with less for the heads (freebies). Talking about less and less and remembering the money we bring.... If you want to talk go to Facebook and sell your soul to that corp..

Nearly all the entries from 2008, 2009, and 2010 are gone. Poof!, missing, vanished...view this page and notice the large gaps in the chronology week to week. There's quite a lot missing. Thanks for fixing this week, and the last few weeks...one can hope it's the start of something good...

Thanks for this one Dave. My first and only New Years run. Too much of life on and off the bus all caught up in a family road trip to Berkley (we stayed in the Golden Bear motel as I recall) Oakland for the decade changer. If you have a good version of the pre New Years night would love to hear it. Seems like Airto or someone joined Mickey and Billy and they plugged into the universal choir during drums space. Could have been me cause sometimes the songs that we ...well you know. Love and peace through the music. The actual New Years show highlight for me was the Bonnie Raitt, Big Boss Man when the boys all go Pips rythmn section with synchronized flashes off guitar faces pushing Bonnie forward and them funking down in the background (video probably needed to appreciate). Boninie then exuberantly jumps on Jerry leaving the stage and Jerry gives one of those aw shucks embarrassed shy WTF is happening to me helpless looks before stepping back into the eye of the hurricane. Good stuff it not great music. But you could tell cause the tapes never lie.

Tonight I find that all but December 6-12 2010, February 14-20 2011 and February 21-27 2011 have been recovered which is great work, but like stoltzfus I am disappointed that january-28-february-3-2013 has not appeared today. Perhaps it will light up tomorrow for us.

The dates you listed are indeed missing. When one follows the old links to those pages, they lead to weird places. Presumably, both marye and the web techs know about the issue. At least the pages can be retreived using the Wayback Machine. I'm pretty stoked they've got most of the missing dates up finally!

Dianna, our new web developer, has been working on this, and from what I can tell, all the pages are restored to the Tapers Section chronological list, and a random selection of them, at least, works just fine. I notice that some of the restored pages have what I strongly suspect are different names from their originals, which may render them inaccessible from old links. I'll see if this is reasonably fixable, but in the meantime, if you go to the Tapers Section page and click your way to the year of your choice, you should find everything okay. Please speak up if you do not.

lethedoom is correct, all but December 6-12 2010, February 14-20 2011 and February 21-27 2011 have been recovered...it's still possible to access them through other means (read: wayback machine). The actual links here lead to weirdness, namely the comments for the given entry, but minus links to the music...
