    February 24 - March 2, 2014

Greetings, and welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1972, 1981 and 1994.

Our first selection this week is from the excellent November, 1972 of the south and Midwest, a tour that featured some of the best shows of the entire year, which is saying a lot. From 11/14/72 in Oklahoma City, we have the huge second set jam of He's Gone>Truckin'>The Other One>Sing Me Back Home.

Next up is music from 10/10/81 in the beautiful city of Bremen, in northwestern West Germany. From this show in the middle of the European Tour of 1981 we have the end of the first set featuring Me and My Uncle>Big River, Bird Song, Let It Grow, Deal.

Lastly this week is the entire first set from 10/19/94, the Grateful Dead's last-ever concert at Madison Square Garden. From this show, we have Feel Like A Stranger > Bertha ; Spoonful ; Jack-A-Roe ; El Paso ; If The Shoe Fits ; Bird Song.

Thanks for stopping by, and we'll look forward to seeing you here next week with more tunes from the vault. As always, we encourage you to write to us at the email address below with questions, comments or suggestions.

Dicks Picks 36 has been acquired !!!
Also DP33. The sound quality for the 76' show is incredible. Betty show. DP36 is recorder by Owsley and I know there is a patch in Friend on the Devil , but the filler from 3 Set Show 9-3-72 Folsom Field makes up for it He's Gone > Other One > Wharf Rat. 3 Dicks picks within 10 days. Wow. I think that is a record. Can't wait for a Dave's pick from 9-23 or 9-24 Waterbury or August Berkeley run + October/November shows with Box of Rain.

The music player for the '72 Oklahoma City stream has failed three times in a row just now (stopping 1:05 into the stream, as jskhsmith just noted here). The specifics (of three times at the same place) seem remarkable, but this isn't that odd an occurrence with the players on the site lately - nearly every link, for several weeks now, seems to have a glitch in my browser, and shuts down nearly as often as not (often several times, at different points, in a repeatedly attempted streaming). I'm using Safari v5.1.10 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. What a time and attention waster!

Would love to hear any vault recordings from October and November: I have cassette copies of the Wichita and Houston shows from November, and the Cincinnati & Columbus shows from October. The (complete) Cleveland 10/28 and KC 11/12-13 show tape's have been elusive. Looking forward to listening to this Oklahoma feature.

Player's problem w/the '72 stream seems fixed, played this evening without a glitch (not even the ~normally expected hiccup of a repeat and clock retreat after the first couple seconds that often happens with this player software in my browser). - Thanks, marye and crew. That's some energetically stretched-out playing out of Truckin' and in The Other One - no one's in a-n-y hurry, just playing for the sake of it. And then THAT Sing Me Back Home - powerful, just wow.

Nice Fall of '94 selection this week- a show that only circulates in audience quality. Looking forward to hearing this soon- Thanks! A couple of huge 1972 selections the past few weeks. Not sure how much from November of '72 is in the Vault, though hopefully what is there will find it's way to release someday.

'94 often gets a bad rap, even by me, but I've got to say that this bit from 10/19/94 is as good as the best of any show from any era. I'll even go as far as to say that the high energy level by the entire band on this performance surpasses the energy from the recent '74, '77 and '78 releases by a long shot. They sound friggin' huge! Jerry is killing it here! Thanks for sharing this!

I often find myself listening to post brent dead, loved it all. I read on some thread here that someone actually walked out of a 95' show due to "bad performance", I'll bet they regret that now. it goes to show, you don't ever know. I'll take a "bad performance" (totally objective) over no dead any day. On to 2015, sure hope the 50 year anniversary tour comes to your neck of the woods.

11-14-72 He's Gone on through is great. 1972 is my favorite year even though a lot of other Dead songs I like were not performed that year. I'm actually hoping to acquire Dicks Picks 36 today and maybe 30. I lost #30 , it's a steep price though
