    The burnt out building to
The burnt out building to the left of Fillmore East was a supermarket. In May of 1969, during a Who show, the place caught fire, and an there was an inferno. The fire chief attempted to stop the show but Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey kicked his butt offstage. As a result, Townshend and Daltrey were arrested and thrown in jail. I think the Who was banned from playing NYC for a while, but apparently the edict was reversed after paying a hefty fine. In the 21st century, a trendy sports bar/restaurant called Bounce currently exists on the spot of the supermarket. One day I hope to persuade Pete or Roger to join me for a drink. On me, of course!!
