    My First
My Uncle brought me with his friends. What an introduction. It was the beginning of the rest of my life. A 6 1/2 hour show! Incredible. From there I saw 135 shows. Now sadly enough July 3, 4, & 5 2105 it will end.

My third show, biggest memory was the Hell's Angels' smacking the fingers of Jim Roux and I for holding onto the fence. Dave Davis

Yeah, the Angels really took their job seriously that night. I saw one guy that got more than his fingers smacked. :-P Very good show...

Got married the day before. Planned on the Dead for the first day of our honeymoon. The Angels forced everyone through a narrow gate wide enough for only one person where they frisked and shook down everyone looking for booze. Saw them beat up several hippies who tried to smuggle bottles past them. Show started while we were still part of the mass of humanity struggling to get through this gate. When we finally got in we were so bummed out by the Angels that we couldn't appreciate the music. The only open areas on the lawn were muddy so we left after about half an hour. The only concert I ever walked out on and I loved the Dead. That night the Legionaire's disease scare in Philadelphia story broke. Bad vibes all around. Oh, and the marriage lasted one day shy of 10 years.

Ouch- it was my 1st show, having seen and been blown away by The JGB(w/ Nickie Hopkins)in New Haven as a high school junior the previous spring-so the anticipation was pretty great, 1st GD show and all...and the first thing I saw after gaining entrance to Colt Park was two biker dudes who were vastly bigger than the hippie kid they had latched onto, pound him with a 2x4 !!!(really)-for booze smuggling or sneaking in, I forget- right in front of me-he was all bleedin' from the face- these guys were huge, and I remember thinking, they don't need the 2x4, they were so big, this is very excessive ! but you got the impression that they were trying to scare people and also discourage gate crashing, as there was some of that goin' on- I'm almost positive that the bikers were "Huns" or some other local group- not Hells Angels, but they were tough and mean. The band blew me away. The first set seemed to go on forever. Seeing the set list posted reminded me of hearing and seeing a really awesome Lazy Lightning/ Supplication(I think). Samson and Delilah and Candyman also made a big impression on me, and then the jam!! It was somewhat of a kind of life changing day. I was able to get past the ugly violence- I remember not wanting anything to ruin my first Dead show, though I never forgot it, and can see how it could have easily spoiled many peoples day and turned many off to that kind of a show-the violence was surely disproportional to the infractions! When I moved to S.F. four years, and many shows later, I was happily impressed by the general mellow, peaceful energy that prevailed at most west coast shows. Usually no cops inside the venues, and mostly polite security and good energy for the most part....need...more..good..energy!

Well, I've pretty forgotten anything about it except it was a good road trip and a nice outdoor venue. I remember the AWESOME Sugar Mag encore. Maybe the best I saw!I must have missed the bad energy. I think we might have arrived late. Even I would remember something like that

I never saw any of the violence associated with the concert. I arrived early, sat pretty close to the stage, and enjoyed the ride.

This was my first show. We stood back by the towers holding up speakers most of the time. At the back of the venue was a big wooden fence and then the highway. This was way back behind you if you were facing the band. People from the highway actually set fire to the fence in order to break into the show. There were all kinds of "reds and blues" as authorities arrived and assorted mayhem as far as I could tell. If must have been pretty weird from the band's perspective to look out over the crowd and see that going on. There were these two guys in full clown suits - the old-fashioned full body big puffy kind - wandering around which also added to the weirdness. Still, it was a pretty good show and I wish I could find a good (not AUD) recording of it. - Bob

Yeah friend of mine got ripped by Angels really bad. On the way in he tossed a beer bottle into the trash and a little foam flew out and got one of the a**holes nearby. Angel named "Stretch" jumped him, ripped up his shirt, bloodied his face etc. F*em, we went in and had a great show. 33 years ago and too many great memories....we laugh about Colt now. And I still have the full ticket...framed :)

I had been on the bus for about five years and was very stoked to go this show, having just returned from Europe and missed the theatre tour (fortunately good friends used my order form and went to the Beacon shows). We didn't have any trouble with the Angels, but I do vividly remember them patrolling, with pieces of 2 x 4 in hand. The place was pretty small...a mellower scene than the outdoor shows I was used to at Roosevelt Stadium. After the show discovered that my car had a flat tire...and I didn't have a jack to lift it. My friends and other Deadheads lifted the car -- and I think some levitation took place that night! -- while I put on the spare.

I do remember the tight gate on the way out. I don't remember going in that way and I saw no ANgels, thank God! This show was awesome! Killer set list. I somehow got ahold aof a huge Japanese flag and I was waing it high & wide during U.S. Blues! We had a blast from start to finish.
