    Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1973, 1983 and 1985.

    Our first selection this week is the second set opening jam from 11/1/73 in Evanston, IL, featuring Morning Dew>Playing In The Band>Uncle John's Band>Playing In The Band. This is a precursor to the Playing>UJB>Dew>UJB>Playing jam they'd play on 11/10/73, 11/17/73 and 3/23/74.

    Next up is music from the Hult Center in Eugene, Oregon on 8/30/83, where we have the end of the first set featuring Tennessee Jed, Lazy Lightning>Supplication, Deal. The beginning of Tennessee Jed is cut on the master cassette.

    Our final selection this week is from 11/2/85 in Richmond, VA, with the start of the second set featuring Iko Iko, Estimated Prophet>Uncle John's Band>China Doll. This tour was filled with great playing, and very high energy Grateful Dead music.

    11/02 Richmond
    11/02/85 would make a stellar Dave's Pick, and we know that stand was recorded well. The only thing that's kept me from lobbying for its release is that first night was already a Dick's, so it seemed unlikely. 11/10's a nice show, also. Half-Step > Rider to open the second set...how fun is that. Not so tight of a Lazy Lightning on this '83 selection; wonder if it got put away soon after because the band wasn't sufficiently nailing it anymore? (Don't get me wrong, I'd have LOVED to have seen this performance, having only ever caught a Supplication jam....)

    Evanston medley, and that vintage
    no finer ensemble GD performances than the finest in fall 1973 (or maybe some in Europe '72...)

    The jam in both of these versions are fierce! Just love the bands' sound in this 85 era. Not alot of effects - pretty straight up guitar sounds. Heavier on the distortion. Bobb'y guitar sound is slashing with some nice whammy hits. More rock and roll...

The jam in both of these versions are fierce! Just love the bands' sound in this 85 era. Not alot of effects - pretty straight up guitar sounds. Heavier on the distortion. Bobb'y guitar sound is slashing with some nice whammy hits. More rock and roll...
