    Fall tour '79
Fall tour '79 ended 09.08.79. The "winter" tour 10.24.79-12.11.79 is legendary and damn near put my '72 Toyota corolla 2 door station wagon(30 mpg) in the bone yard. My Sony TC-D5M also got a good work out. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. But "Not in San Francisco" Have a "Jerry" Christmas and a happy new "Weir"

    Berry Christmas
Around was never a favorite, particularly in its predictable slot. Always enjoyed Promised Land with Jerry belting out the last couple of lines. Time to crank up some Run Run Rudolf

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1979, 1981 and 1991, recorded on the east coast, Midwest, and west coast.

Our first selection this week is the end of the show from 12/7/79 in Indianapolis on the excellent Fall Tour of 1979, which had plenty of great shows. From this night, we have Space > Wharf Rat> Around And Around > Johnny B. Goode, U.S. Blues.

Next is music from a year and a half later on 5/2/81 in Philadelphia, where we have the start of the first set, featuring Jack Straw > Sugaree> El Paso ; Bird Song ; Cassidy ; Candyman. This tour had plenty of great music, including the terrific show on 5/6/81 at Nassau Coliseum that became Dick's Picks Vol. 13.

Lastly this week is the entire first set from 10/31/91 in Oakland, the fourth night of a four night run that started just a couple of days after Bill Graham's death. From this show, we have Help On The Way>Slipknot!>franklin's Tower, Little Red Rooster, Loser, Tom Thumb's Blues, Let It Grow.

Join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Please, let's have a break from Weir singing Chuck Berry songs. Covering Berry songs was never the Dead's strong point, but Weir singing Around and Around is unbearable. (and again with the "y'all"s after every other line, it seems.) The whole band sounds like they're ready to take a nap. Whining aside, thanks for the rest of it, and all the postings in general. Loved that DS->Stella Blue from JOTW last week.

One of the greatest tours of the Dead's entire 30 year touring history with plenty of high quality recordings, and yet it's criminally under-represented from an official release standpoint.

LOL, I always loved the Berry covers. I preferred Around & Around with the double time ending, but any are fine with me, and Promised Land and JBG always had us all dancing.
