    Hello friends
in the end there's just a song comes cryin' up the night thru all the broken dreams and vanished years... Thanks again for the music. A groovy way to start the week!

    Scarlet>Fire ' 79
The 12.10.79 Scarlet>fire is not as improvisational as 12.03.79 from a week earlier. On the way home to "white trash Wisconsin" from KC. We did a Mark Twain Historical tour in Missouri. I was inspired by this quote: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain. It's 35 years from now what was then. I am not disappointed and I'm still dreamin' SF Giants V. Chicago White sox in the world series.

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week have music from Brent's first three years in the Grateful Dead, 1979, 1980 and 1981, including a first set, a pre-Drums sequence, and a post-Drums sequence.

First up, from 12/10/79 in Kansas City we have the start of the second set, featuring a long sequence of Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain ; Easy To Love You > Let It Grow> He's Gone > Truckin'. There's a bit of a sound issue early in Scarlet Begonias, but otherwise things settle down nicely into a very good hour of music, including a couple of usually-first-set songs in Easy To Love You and Let It Grow.

From a year later on 12/13/80 in Long Beach, CA, we have the entire first set of Feel Like A Stranger> Sugaree > C C Rider ; To Lay Me Down ; New Minglewood Blues ; Ramble On Rose ; Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance > Deal, which includes three songs from Jerry's first solo record.

Our last selection this week is from 12/9/81 in Boulder, the Grateful Dead's final appearance in Boulder. From this show we have the end of the second set featuring Space>The Other One>Stella Blue>Around and Around>Good Lovin', US Blues>Satisfaction. There's a tape reel change/cut as Space leads into The Other One, but it's minor and doesn't detract from the excellence all around the cut.

Be sure to check back in next week for more music from the vault.
