    Grateful Dead Hour no.1
    Grateful Dead Hour no. 1

    Week of September 5, 1988

This week we hear a November 1987 interview with Jerry Garcia by Mary Eisenhart, a longtime Deadhead and a good friend of mine who is also the forum manager here on Dead.Net. The full transcript is posted on Mary's web site; portions appeared in BAM Magazine, and Mary was kind enough to allow me to broadcast parts of it in the very first episode of my nationally syndicated radio show, the Grateful Dead Hour.

This program is being circulated in the DeadNet forums. Click here to find out more and sign up for a copy if you're interested.

An important note about this interview, from Mary's post in the vine topic:

....this [interview] certainly highlights the difference between doing interviews for print (which this was, originally) and broadcast. Let's just say if you INTEND to do an audio interview, learn from my lame example and do not say "uh-huh" at 30-second intervals.

My commercial syndication deal lasted exactly one year. Since September 1989, I have distributed the Grateful Dead Hour myself to a combination of Public, college, community, and commercial stations. The complete station list is here, along with a list of other Grateful Dead radio programs.

5/2/70 was released in 1997 as Dick's Picks vol. 8

    Enjoy!

    The music:

Jerry Garcia Band, Cats Under the Stars
    CATS UNDER THE STARS

    GD Hour
Wow-GD Hour # 1. I started recording the Dead Head Hour in August 1987 off of the famous WNEW-FM in NY. I continued every week until 1994 when I stopped at show 335. I have listened to the show in Florida (Sunday Mornings @ 8:00 AM !) and for the past several years on WFUV in NY @ 11:00 PM Friday Nights and 12:00 (The Midnight Hour) Saturday mornings. I always look at the GD Hour website every Friday. David - thanks for all the years of well produced shows, and may it continue for another 1000 shows.

    Thank you David and Mary
Man, do I miss Jerry. Thankfully, we still have so much of his music and other stuff like this to keep him with us, and to keep us smiling. "One watch by night, one watch by day If you get confused, listen to the music play"

The gdh supposedly to be provided yesterday seems to be #1, but it does not show up on the front page 'The Latest'. When I went through 'Features' to 'GD Radio Hour' to 'Grateful Dead Hour no.1' at the top of the queue I get this text with 'Listen Now" radio button, but it won't play. I can play other Taper Section and GDH music, so it is clearly just this link that is the issue. Please let the right person know that the link is not working and hopefully they can fix it. lethedoom

I would love to hear the interview that Marye did with Jerry. The link will come up but you cannot press play. Looking forward to this one _____________________________________________ Will you come with me? Once in awhile you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right!

Cool Interveiw,Love the dead hour, I "discovered" the dead while working a crapy 3rd shift weekend job. The only good part of the gig was the midnight hour on Saturday when the GD hour would come on. I got hooked, it was better than anything else I had to do. So I guess I caught the bus at one of its later stops. Well better late than never....
