There are a few people who have left an indelible impression on me and one of them was this guy I used to see standing around the periphery of the floor looking up into the stands and making hand signals. He looked like such a mellow, irie guy. Maybe native American, with shoulder length strait black hair parted on the side. I was so intrigued by the hand gestures he was making. To my mind he seemed to be feeling the vibes and maybe directing the energies with his hands, better yet, playing cosmic space traffic controller! He always had pleasantly stoned smile on his face. One time I saw him close by and someone yelled 'Sharky!' in his direction so I assumed that was his name. Shortly after Jerry passed I saw him at a show, maybe Mickey's Chauttaqua, and he looked really down in the dumps. I wanted to go console him but I wasn't in such great shape myself. Well, I hope Sharky pulled through that dark period and is still alive and thriving on good vibes. I'll never forget those enigmatic hand gestures and his benevolent smile.

    HUMAN KINDNESS!!!!!
This means a lot to me because Sat. I was laid out flat on my back, alone, with my eyes closed after The Dead show at the Gorge on a lawn 1/2 way up the hill to the exit.I was feeling really bad and could have needed help or worse yet be having a heart attack, or lying there dead. Melody was in line for the restroom before we were to leave so I told her I was going to lay down there and wait for her. I was laying there flat on my back motionless with my eyes closed. I lied there for about 5 minutes when I heard a mans voice say, "Hey Chief, are you alright? Do you need any help?? I was so surprised with this huge act of kindness I opened my eyes to see a man about 40ish standing alone over me. So I sat up and said no I'm fine I'm just waiting here for my daughter. "THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR STOPPING AND ASKING AS YOU DID AND I APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH!!" You are VERY KIND!!! He said, Great I'm glad but just I had to stop and check?? Have a great night. And walked off. Thousands walked right on by and this "MAN/ANGEL" took the time to walk up the grassy hill just to see if another fellow human being as himself was alright and didn't need his assistance. Deadhead, Humanhead, Herohead, Human Being!!! Bless this man with you good thoughts so good things happen to him. No doubt doing the things he does as this and caring from his heart brings him more good karma than the rest of us will ever have but he deserves it!!! If he stopped for me as he did he would stop for you or anyone else in question of needing assistance. If we all were as caring for each other as this stranger was to I than this world wouldn't be as bad as it can get and has gotten!!! Wanted to share this huge experience with you all. Bless, Den Go here and click "Free Episodes" and then click "What Would You Do" download the media player and watch the latest episode that's up on the main page now. Just a shout out to Brian from Memphis via Cali and your vintage bus-full of fine heads: It was great playing at the Chelsea with you guys til dawn, in the Roach-room. Didn't catch the name of your banjo player, but it was fun. Saw a great picture online of Roach looking "a bit" burned out in front of MSG - ha! Didn't get a chance to connect with y'all after the show so here's a big THANK YOU! Any time you're in Ontario, please look us up - Canadian heads love to jam! =) Happy trails, Kirsten

... reading these posts about "first shows" and shows that y'all have seen... makes me wonder where the time went. (well I know where... it went thataway...) Been watchin and listening since '69... too many good times to remember. Keep hopin' to meet the love of my life at a show.... can't imagine a better place or people...well, I have I guess... or thought I had, but we always headed down a different road. That said... Looking for a female dead head, age doesn't matter, who wants to ride cross country by motorcycle to the summer fest at Rothbury and back... and for once head down the same road together after the show. Can send pics and meet first... you gotta like riding motorcycles, camping, and me. I'm in AZ. Gimme five I'm still alive...

well, this is the beauty of the Grateful experience. there were never any strangers at any shows, and never any strangers among deadheads no matter where we might meet. no strangers here, just friends you haven't met. peace.

....You are a tall guy with long wavy black hair,skiny...I saw you at every CalExpo and Shoreline show in 89 and 90. You let me have one of your drawings for allowing me to let you sell behind my car. I was selling stickers and had my stereo speakers set up outside my car etc... The picture you gave me is called "primortal soup" and has a picture of a hand and a frog and other things meshed into it. I cant remember your name, but I have the memory of your kind soul and a picture of yours hung up. Eric

ok let me write about the show in washington in the early 90s, first i flew from Amsterdam all the way to Tampa then with a car to D.C we done our things to get ready for the show but we were stuck on the high way and by the time we arrived the band just came on stage with row jimmy row and that was the trip I kept rowing through the Dead Heads till I found my self in the first row(wanna make it short) so after the show as we all do went hanging out with all the good heads and as time passed by I forgot where the car is and i almost got lost but never felt stanger, almost ended in a van with some dead heads were on tour following the deads and i was invited to join them but i had to go and find my car and company so I had to get my head together and find my way back. Some how some where i saw a heavy duty van with the sign..............DEAD1.............So I knew its the deads mobile leaving the stadium; finaly found my parking place and my friends almost leaving, if that happend and they left ,that would turn me in to a bad trip cause I didn´t have any adress or any ID nothing my 100$ almost spent buying tshirts and all that stuff ,it was my own experience in the states to get lost and having not a single idea where the house where we were staying no cash only a bunch of dead heads all around the place and that was the only thing made me get lost and in the same time made me not to feel like a stranger in fact I felt between them safe BIG PEACE UPPS:HOPE MY STORY WAS N´T SO BORING

Anyone remember the Gumby man? He was at just about every Shoreline show I ever went to. Dressed in a green, fuzzy Gumby suit. One show - can't remember which year - I was really young. My plan was to go to the first show myself and then I was supposed to meet my dad for the second show. So, I hitch hiked to Shoreline, had a fantastic show, had a little too much fun if you know what I mean, then found myself out in the lot with things winding down and nowhere to go. I hadn't really filled in the part of the plan that included sleeping somewhere between shows. I sure was a dumb kid. I found Gumby out in the lot. He had taken off the head part of the suit. I musta looked a little lost and homeless, or maybe I asked him if he had a place for me to stay.....can't remember. He just took one look at me and told me to climb in the back of his truck. He took me back to his place, led me to a bedroom and gently tucked me in. Said goodnight, turned off the light and went off to bed. For all I know, he might have given me his own bed to sleep in. It was a long time ago, but I think that I remember staying at his house and hanging with him all the next day. Then he drove me back to the next show. I tried to thank him - I was so grateful - but I probably didn't thank him enough. Couldn't really find the words. So Gumby, if you're reading this or if someone who knows Gumby is reading this, THANK YOU for taking in a young, naive girl that night, no questions asked. Thank you for taking care of me. You really embody everything good that Deadheads have to offer. For me, even if I never see you again, you're family. I've never forgotten that small gift of random kindness. Someday, I hope I can do the same for some dopey kid that still thinks that everyone in the world is trustworthy. Wo, oh, what I want to know, is are you kind?

peace through music Wow, the only Gumby that I remember seeing at many shows was a huge blow up Gumby that used to be tossed high into the air up in front of the stage. As far as remembering names I don't think I was born with that part of my brain. Funny how we remember Gumby's name but not peoples names. You know what Gumby says............Ya just gotta poke-y around!

Wow!, All evil needs is for good people to do nothing. Usually, when I wanted to just check in with someone who may or may not need assistance, my own internal gyro scope was in need of calibration. I never really felt apart of any affinity group beyond being an active audience member looking to get my batteries recharged by the music. Sometimes a little reminder that every thing and everybody including the person on the verge of panic, it's cool, you, they , it me, all of it, if you are here, then by definition you are cool and a little transient confusion, altitude distortion will pass because your cool and oh, by the way, you may have taken an intoxicant earlier and forgotten about it, that's cool too.
