Who were the Guest Guitarists at Laguna Seca?
I am guessing they were David Hidalgo and/or Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos, and listening more I am becoming quite certain. Listen to Little Red Rooster and maybe West La Fadeaway and you will hear some electric guitars not played by Jerry or Bob... Better list 'em... Thanks, Shiney...

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section and our first full week of 2016 music offerings from the GratefulDead's vault.

Our first stop this week is on 8/12/81 in Salt Lake City, where we have the music coming out of Space, although we're missing the final two songs of the set (Around and Around>Good Lovin'). From this fine show, we have Space>Spanish Jam>Truckin'>Morning Dew.

Next is the start of the second set from my first Grateful Dead show on 3/26/87 in Hartford. Even though I was virtually last row of the building, I remember everything about this show so vividly. Enjoy this batch of very high energy Dead: China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider, Looks Like Rain>He's Gone.

Lastly this week is the entire first set from 7/31/88 at Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA, where we have Mississippi Half-Step, Little Red Rooster, West LA Fadeaway, Me and My Uncle>Big River, Ramble On Rose, Gentlemen Start Your Engines, Masterpiece, Bird Song.

Be sure to join us here next week with more music from the vault.

you must have had a nice view of Mr Hockey's number hanging from the rafters. Hartford shows never disappointed.

The energy in the Hartford Civic Center that night is palpable on this recording! That China-Rider is off the hook. Thanks and a very happy new year to all of you :)

hahahahaha I griped about those a few years back. the curator has been pushing them under my nose ever since. I wonder who did the original Spanish Jam. I would love love love to be at a real-life GD show right now. Or maybe somewhere in San Francisco, on a back porch in July. I am not a big fan of winter. 78 days until spring.

I'll try the 87 show now, against my better judgement.

someone seems to say (non-verbally) "kick up the energy a little". the audience sounds happy about it. oh to live on, grateful mountain, with the deadheads and the colored balloons. i can't be twenty on grateful mountain. That was 32 years ago, 4fuxsayk. I wish I was HEEEAAAADDLIGGGHT, on a nooooorrththhbound train not a big fan of LLR love Jerry, but his voice in 88 is squeaky creaky. ish. just sayin'

Loved this show! The whole thing was great. So much good energy from the '87 ones. Especially like that dramatic burst at the end of He's Gone... Thanks, Dave!

When is one these smoking sets from August getting released? Quite a few are circulating from Audience recordings. 2nd set of 8.14.81 is pretty interesting opening with 6 songs before drums including Playing in the Band. Also Baby Blue encore, seems to be 1st in a while. Bring on more 1981, how about 9.12.81 if in vault ??
