    Fall '82 Under the Radar
    Hey All, Yessah, some fine music during the 1982 Fall East Coast run for sure. Be sure to check the Morning dew from 9/17 Portland Me. Also first Throwing Stones deep in the first set. Interesting Space>Spanish Jam(weirdly truncated)>Other One A fun night was had by all on 9/17/82... Merci beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux shwack in nh

    9.11.73 horns are sweet
    if they do release i bet it would be included in a 1973 box set, but as a stand alone release, probably not very likely. Some sweet highlights from that mini tour. 9.24.73 is a fun listen and "Black Peter" from a few days before is killer. William and Mary show also features a sweet "Looks Like Rain"

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have some September Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1982 and 1988.

Our first stop this week is on 9/12/73 at William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where the Dead famously had so much fun playing on 9/11 that by the end of that show they added this second show. From this excellent impromptu gathering we have some great, classic 1973 Grateful Dead, featuring Weather Report Suite, Around and Around, Eyes Of The World>Stella Blue. That's Joe Ellis and Martin Fierro in horns. Good stuff.

Next ups is the entire first set from 9/11/82 in West Palm Beack, FL, where we have New Minglewood Blues ; They Love Each Other ; Me And My Uncle > Big River ; Dupree's Diamond Blues > C C Rider ; Loser ; Looks Like Rain ; Tennessee Jed > Let It Grow. This is a terrific tour, and if you have the time I highly recommend that you check out more from the month of September 1982.

Lastly this week, from 9/8/88 at the Philadelphia Spectrum, we have the start of the second set, featuring Bertha > Greatest Story Ever Told > Crazy Fingers > Truckin'. This was the Dead's first big tour that featured only three cities, but 17 shows, the last nine of which were at Madison Square Garden.

This is a run that NEEDS to be released. '88 is a great starter year for potential new fans who might want to tip their toes into some nice tight music, and a perfect gateway year to the heavier stuff.

There is some polytonality going on in the first part of Jerry's Crazy Fingers solo. His vocals are also on the weaker side and most of the songs here are a little 'lyrically challenged' shall we say. Phil's tone and Brent's vocals help the clip out a bit. I was surprised to see how Brian Dyke handled the review of this show in the Taping Compendium. I'd say he skewers about 80-90% of the shows he reviews, and this one was mercifully spared for the most part. I don't think this show ought to be terribly high on the list for releases in my opinion, unless you're factoring in the concert experience. I'm sure it would have been fantastic to have attended. The fun factor does indeed translate to the tape.
