Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1973, and a double dose of 1980s Dead from 1981 and 1989.
Our first selection this week is from 7/1/73 at Universal Amphitheatre, the final night of a short, six show tour of the west coast, which featured stops in Vancouver, Portland, Seattle, and three nights at Universal Amphitheatre in LA. From the last night, we have the big second set jam, featuring Truckin' > Drums > The Other One > Wharf Rat> Me And Bobby McGee.
Next is the start of the show from 7/5/81 in Oklahoma City, featuring Shakedown Street ; The Promised Land ; Candyman; Cassidy ; Brown Eyed Women. I imagine it was pretty hot in July in Oklahoma City.
Lastly this week is the end of the show from the first night of the Summer Tour of 1989, one of the strongest tours of the Dead’s final decade, featuring The Wheel>Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude>Sugar Magnolia, Mighty Quinn from 7/2/89 at Foxboro, MA.
Be sure to join us next week for more music from the vault.
