    Leather Pants for Dylan
You are correct the heat and dirt weed had erased that detail from the memory banks. Ah driving all night to get back to work in NY on the 7th, made it.

I caught the two show Alpine valley run from that year. They happened to be my second and third Grateful Dead concerts (the first being in '84). I have little recollection of the shows themselves as I was 17 years old at the time, though the recordings sound as if Jerry was doing pretty well considering he was on the verge of a diabetic coma shortly afterwards. I have a better memory of the Alpine '87 run.

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have triple dose of Brent-era Grateful Dead music, from 1981, 1986, and 1989.

Our first selection this week is from 7/5/81 in Oklahoma City, where we have the end of the first set (Let It Grow) followed by the start of the second set: Let It Grow, Samson And Delilah ; Don't Ease Me In ; The Music Never Stopped ; Ship Of Fools.

Next is the start of the second set from the penultimate show of the summer tour of 1986, right before Jerry went into his diabetic coma upon his return home after the tour. From RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, on 7/6/86, we have Saint Of Circumstance ; Iko Iko ; Looks Like Rain ; He's Gone.

Lastly this week is the start of the show from 7/10/89, the second night at Giants Stadium, featuring Feel Like A Stranger~ Franklin's Tower ; Walkin' Blues ; Jack-A-Roe ; When I Paint My Masterpiece. That’s quite the ending on Masterpiece… There was a massive thunder and lightning storm at this show that caused a bit of a delay, but the Dead made up for it with a solid first set.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

I so look forward to the next '89 release, whenever and whatever that might be. Overdue for a DVD/CD/Bluray concert package. "Crimson White & Indigo", Truckin' Up To Buffalo and "Downhill From Here" are such great releases....must have more.

It was hot, real hot in the swamps of DC. Dylan & Petty opened and Bob garbled his way through the set. They started with the hoses from the stage as we where waiting for the boys to take the stage. I remember the digital board showing 96 degrees as they took the stage. I remember the first set being better then the second but I preferred Alpine and Riverbend this summer over RFK. Anyone who sweats like that must be alright!!

And as hot as it was, Dylan performed wearing leather pants! His version of Shake a Hand at this show tore it up. When Jerry came out wearing a bedspread for a shirt, we all knew that trouble lay ahead...
