Ten years the waves rolled the ships home from the sea
The relaunched Dead Net has just passed its tenth anniversary (and I mine here). So let's offer a huge thank you to all those who keep it going, and especially to MaryE who has so ably and amicably steered us all through winds both foul and fair. Also to Dave for raiding the vault for us all these years. THANK YOU.

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1974, 1984, and 1989.

Our first selection is from 7/25/74 in Chicago at the International Amphitheatre, one of the Wall Of Sound shows. From that show, we have Loose Lucy ; Black Throated Wind ; Loser ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Sugaree ; Mexicali Blues. This is a very cool-looking venue; check it out online if you get a chance.

From a decade late on 7/22/84 in Ventura, CA, we have this excellent forst set: Dancing In The Street > Bertha; My Brother Esau ; Loser ; Cassidy ; Ramble On Rose; Hell In A Bucket > Keep Your Day Job.

From the penultimate Grateful Dead show at Alpine Valley in East Troy, WI, on 7/18/89, we have the start of the second set: Sugar Magnolia > Scarlet Begonias ; Man Smart (Woman Smarter) ; Eyes Of The World.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Attended 7/18/89. Drove down day of the show. First time back at Alpine since '87 (attended both '86 and '87 runs) and oh boy, what a difference a couple of years and a huge hit album made. From a comfortable open space for camping/vending scene to a cloistered fenced in prison camp type set up. Didn't attend '88 but heard that was also a clusterfuck. The show itself was pure magic. Didn't attend the 1st and 3rd nights, but they were also amazing. The Dead were at their career pinnacle in '89 and '90 as far as I'm concerned. Hoping for an Alpine '89 full run box. Downhill From Here video is awesome but should be re-released without the 1st set edit, as well as the entirety of the other two shows. The '74 and '84 selections are also very nice. Still plenty of gold to mine from the vaults.

Boy that is a rough start to Dancing but I think it is only the third one since they busted out the Mo Town version in Toga. There ability to continue on and recover from almost sheer disaster was one of their strong suits.
