    Grateful Dead Hour no.1488

A listener asked me if I could find 6/29/88 and get it on the air. Took me a while to get hold of it, and when I did there were a lot of problems. The first set had a nasty hum throughout, which I was able to tame (to some extent) with a tool called Izotope RX. The second set has a problem that can’t be fixed: the guitars are entirely missing for the first half of the set.

"Johnny B Goode" is included this week in honor of Chuck Berry, who died on March 18 at the age of 90 and left us with a couple dozen of the rockin’est, wittiest, funnest songs anyone ever heard. "Johnny B Goode," "Promised Land," "Around and Around," "Let It Rock," "C’est La Vie," "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" – Dead and Dead-related set lists have featured Chuck Berry’s brilliance going back to the Warlocks days. Chuck Berry changed the world, yes he did. Jon Pareles’ obit in the New York Times is excellent.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks
Thanks for playing this, David. Just the other day I was trying to remember what I did on the day off between Alpine and River Bend and the date of this show explains it...there was no day off!

Catch it next time Brown Eyed Women
Had a ton of fun in the Valley for both shows, quickest and shortest Eyes of the World in the second set I ever saw. Everyone driving south for Riverbend for the show the next day, the rest stops where filled with heads sleeping in cars and camping. I remember waking up in the rain in a soaking wet sleeping bag and found cover before day break. Let me lay beneath the roses and my eyes no longer see!!!
