I understand what spacebros is getting at, but saying that if you want
to be visually stimulated you should check out Lady Gaga or Gwar
is asking for a conversational tussle!
Either you like the artwork, or you don't.
Personally, I don't care for it either.
Okay, the Star Wars connection...
Loved it when it came out, but don't really care much for
the films now (except "Empire", which still holds up),
but I absolutely love any Dead show from 1977.
The logo looks like something you would see in
a grocery store, on bacon package or a cereal box.
Well executed, professional, and flashy.
Like someone wants to sell a product.
I guess that's what these discs are, a saleable item,
but to many of us it's more than that. Great artwork
isn't hard to come by (all the Europe '72 shows look
fantastic), so there's not much excuse for a weak cover.
My apologies to the artist. It's not awful, and you were
probably told by some art director that's what they wanted.
Hope you were paid fairly well!
I too thought that the early Dick's Picks were fine, but not everyone wants a generic package for their music (especially at $25 a pop). I loved some of the fractal images, but DP #19 is my favourite... a simple, beautiful photo, perfect for a show
from the American heartland.
