• Adios, El Paso! (pencil rendering)
Way back before my hand ever touched a mouse and looked at a monitor, I had my hand on pencils, pens, real airbrushes, paint brushes, and so on. My friend Bob took this picture of our friend Jose as we left El Paso in 1981. I was driving Jose's jeep, as his condition was, uh, well, not conducive to pilot duties. We were headed north on our way back to Las Cruces, New Mexico (where we all attended New Mexico State University). El Paso is about 40 miles south of Las Cruces. One commonality that was glue to our friendships, we all dug the Dead. Jose was a big Pigpen fan, really into the Blues, was very charismatic, and strangely enough had a bit of that Pig look, the Hispanic version. ; ) I drew this pic from Bob's photo in 1983. For this site I took a pic of this drawing with my cell phone camera, emailed it to myself, and this is what you get, a watered down version of the crisp original (no fine lines in his flannel shirt can be seen, as well as other details; and it's cropped so no mountains in the background either). I consider pencil renderings as acoustic art. No plug in necessary. Thanks for taking a look. Tom
