Bobby and Jerry during "He's Gone"

My friend David scored front row seats for the second Roanoke show (about two weeks earlier than they went on sale at the ticket outlets, by some amazingly fortuitous fluke!). Since I'd turned him on to the Dead he "stubbed me down" and I spent a glorious few hours in this exact spot. The shiny metalic stripe at the bottom center is literally the edge of the stage. "This must be heaven....."

I sure enjoyed those shows......

Thanks for the pic......I'll never forget I flew down there after work (worked in Arlington, VA then) and it was a little charter plane. My crew had driven and I met them there (one way flight) . On the plane the guy next to me kept going to the bathroom. I finally told him he needs to wipe the white stuff from around his nose. : ) Great shows in a cool "off the beaten path" place for the Dead to play. 87 was a fun year with Garcia all healthy and invigorated.

Thanks for the memories!

Love reading all the recollections, folks! Thanks! Roanoke was definitely "off the beaten path." Closest they ever came to playing a show in my hometown, Lynchburg, VA..... home of another "Jerry" -- with a completely different mindset!
