Cal Expo Set Break (pencil work in progress)
This is a pencil work in progress that I've been working on for awhile. I've decided to go back to my roots a little and work in some traditional mediums. Not that I don't love the computer, but there's something about a pencil. shading stumps and erasers on illustration board, along with the grit and natural detail that encompass a drawing of this sort that gets me off best.
This is being drawn from a color photo of two UFDs (get it?) my friend Kevin took during the set break of the 5/3/91 Cal Expo show. What a great place Cal Expo is. LIke seeing the band in a high school football field.
This one is a slow go. Using a magnifying glass, making black and white out of color, and that damn Guatemalan clothing! Talk about details. But it's a great test of patience, and when all is said and done, I'm realizing that the computer stuff, though technically challenging, doesn't give me the satisfaction of that which I created with nothing but my hands and eyes.
This is my acoustic art. Detail work on right...(quality here is cell phone photographed, so what you see isn't doing much justice to the work)
